Oh man, did they sound great!
This was like a dream for me! Listening to one of the ladies I listened to growing up as a rock fan, singing with my fave lady singer of all time!
I had wondered why We Belong was a song they chose to do, because while it was a big hit for Pat, it wasn't a "signature" tune all these years like Heartbreaker of Best Shot. Now we know, it was Martina's favorite! And I just loved that they did it acoustically!
Even before Martina said it onstage herself, I could tell from the looks on her face and in her eyes not only how cool it was to sing Pat's stuff but "Dang, here is one of my idols singing MY songs!" She was truly in awe!
I bet Martina was in Heaven getting to sing Hit Me with Your Best Shot "solo". And that was the song where her singing got the "grittiest" and most Pat-like.
So funny hearing a New Yawker like Pat singing phrases like "I've stirred my last batch of gravy"! LOL! I think a little of Martina rubbed off on her when I heard her say "Y'all".
As great as Pat sounded, I think Martina really shown through. I mean, Pat's been doing this 25 years, and you can tell her voice is rough in spots, but wow, still what a performance! And Pat sure had a following, even down there!
In the backstage clips, Martina had an outfit on that was the perfect blend of rock and country. The white t-shirt, jean jacket, ripped jeans and beige boots. Too cool.
How cool would it have been if they would have thought to do a Christmas song??
This SO needs to be released on CD!! I need to have these performances on disc! Including the songs that didn't air! (I noticed a few were missing)
And a DVD, with more backstage stuff! (You KNOW there had to be more footage!)
Anyway, what a great show, it will always be one of my favorite Martina things on tape!
