Today, the "I's" have it! BTW-for those who are new to this feature, I do artists I know AT LEAST 2 songs by. HOWEVER, if I don't do an act you want to see, PLEASE give me the suggestion, and I will be happy to include them! Here are today's artists! Ides of March-Ok, unless you are familiar with Hot 100 hits, the only song you probably know is Vehicle. Well, being in Chicago, and this is a Chicago band, these guys were bigger her. Vehicle is ok, but they have better songs, like You Wouldn't Listen to Me (Sorta New Colony Six-like) and the BEAUTIFUL L.A. Goodbye. Wonderful Harmonies. In recent years, The Ides acknowledged their one hit wonder status by recording a song with that name, and rattling off the names of varios other OHW's! It's really cool! Faves-L.A. Goodbye, You Wouldn't Listen to Me, Vehicle. Billy Idol-He started out punk, but became more metal. Well, tame metal. I loved Hot in the City, and bought a K-Tel album to get it. Didn't like his biggies like White Wedding or Rebel Yell. And don't get me STARTED on Mony Mony!! He should be serving time for that one. But my fave is without a doubt, Eyes Without a Face. SUCH a great song. Overall, not a fave, but I can think of worse 80's acts. Faves-Eyes Without a Face, Hot in the City, Flesh For Fantasy. Impressions-Pretty much a legendary soul vocal group. I'd put them a few levels below the Drifters and the Four Tops though. Actually, I don't know too much by them, but I know their legend. In the Hall, deservedly so. Fave-It's All Right. James Ingram-To me, one of countless soul singers in the 80s that did nothing for me. I'd rather listen to Lionel Richie with The Chicken. Ok? Ok.  Fave-Just Once. INXS-It wasn't cool to in the group I hung with, but I liked INXS. And yes, Kick was played into the ground, but it's still a good album. Actually, my faves on there are the album cuts and lesser hits. They were kindof on the border of the Duran Duran/new wave and the cool rock of the 80s. Tragic loss of Michael Hutchence. Actually, I think their early stuff was probably their best. Faves-Don't Change, Disappear, What You Need, New Sensation, Guns in the Sky. Ok and you? |

Am I the first to reply today?  Ides of March - Know the band name, but I'm not familiar with the songs or at least the titles. Billy Idol - I won't deny that he has a few songs that I unabashedly like. He's fun! My mother loves his first guitarist Steve Stevens. Faves: Dancing With Myself (a hit first with Generation X), Rebel Yell, Flesh For Fantasy, Eyes Without A Face (this song's actually really pretty) Impressions - A fave of my uncle's. He was always playing their records while he cooked. Their songs remind me of time spent at my uncle's house on the Chesapeake Bay. Faves: Keep On Pushing, People Get Ready, It's Alright, Finally Got Myself Together James Ingram - I think his voice is actually pretty distinctive. He's made a really nice living being a session artist. I actually like the duets he's done more than his solo stuff. Faves: How Do You Keep The Music Playing (duet with Patti Austin), Baby Come To Me (also with Austin), One Hundred Ways INXS - Most of their popular stuff I don't like for some reason, but their first album has some gems. Faves: Don't Change, Loved One, Need You Tonight is also pretty darn good. |

Ides of March- Only song I know is "Vehicle"...nice song though.
Billy Idol- Billy Idol was one of the few metal acts I really enjoyed. While I HATED "Mony Mony", I loved hits like "Eyes Without A Face", "Dancing With Myself" and ESPECIALLY "White Wedding".
Impressions- I don't know why I can't remember them.
James Ingram- The only song I liked of his was the duet he did with Linda Ronstadt. It was "Somewhere Out There" from An American Tail. Makes me cry every time.
INXS-One of my favourite Aussie bands ever. I loved practically every hit from "Kick", and I liked the hits "What You Need", "Disappear" and "Suicide Blonde". R.I.P. Michael Hutchence...1960-1997.

O.K. Now I'm pi$$ed. I got about ¾ of the way through this post and my computer froze and I had to start over. This is taking up some of my valuable time where I could have been working.  Ides of March- I only know Vehicle. I keep thinking I know more, but I'm confusing them with the Chairmen of the Board that peaked at about the same time, and had a similar sound. Vehicle is a good song. Not my favorite but a good song. Billy Idol- Yeah. That's what we need. An albino Tommy James. If I wanna listen to Mony Mony, I'd prefer to hear it by 1. Tommy James. 2. Wayne Newton. 3. William Shatner and then MAYBE Billy Idol. Favorites: None Impressions- One of the great R&B/soul/gospel groups of all time. Curtis Mayfield was an underappreciated superstar IMO. It's funny, but one of my best memories of the Impressions, were not the Impressions at all, but a tribute to them by Johnny Maestro and the Brooklyn Bridge at a concert I attended in about 1970. Favorite Impressions include: Keep On Pushing, Amen, We?re A Winner, Gypsy Woman (even better than the Hyland version, and I love the Hyland version), It's Alright, Talking About My Baby, People Get Ready. James Ingram- I often get him mixed up with Michael McDonald. Ingram is pleasant to listen to. My favorite is the one that he did with Kim Carnes and Kenny Rogers "What About Me". That's in my all time top 250, which I plan to start listing on MC one of these days after I finish listing 150 obscure songs that I like, which I plan to start listing any day now. INXS- Heard of them. I know they were big in the late 80s, but never followed them. Hey Sat...what happened to Frank Ifield?? (Just Kidding ;D ) |

Ides of March - I'd bought a copy of their album Vehicle about a year and a half ago, but didn't give it a listen until today. I shouldn't have waited so long - it's terrific! Great brass-influenced sound, similar to mellow early Chicago. Favorites: Vehicle, Wooden Ships/Dharma for One, Aire of Good Feeling, Symphony for Eleanor (Eleanor Rigby).
Billy Idol - Not one of my favorite male artists, but not bad. I'll agree with you about 'Mony Mony' - it's horrible. Favorites: White Wedding, Hot in the City, Eyes Without a Face (reminds me of summer 84 - what a great time!), Rebel Yell.
Impressions - Wonderful, versatile soul group. I agree with H2 about Curtis Mayfield being underappreciated - such a unique voice and delivery. Favorites: It's All Right, Keep on Pushing, Finally Got Myself Together.
James Ingram - Decent. Not an artist I'd go out of my way to listen to, but I don't mind hearing him at all. Favorites: Just Once, Yah Mo B There, Baby, Come to Me.
INXS - I don't know much beyond their big hits, but they had a great sound, very distinctive. What a tragedy about Michael Hutchence - yet another we lost too soon. Favorites: The One Thing, Need You Tonight, What You Need, Elegantly Wasted.

Ides of March--I think I only know "Vehicle". Not familiar with anything else by them. Billy Idol--Am I the only person who enjoyed his version of "Mony Mony"? Maybe it's the fond memories I have of singing along to the "additional" lyrics in the local bar my husband and I used to frequent. Anyway, I like the guy. I have "Vital Idol" on vinyl. (I think that's what it's called. LOL). Haven't listened to it in awhile, but back in the day, Billy was one of my faves. Impressions--Don't know them well. I did have the 45 of "Amen"--love that one! "People Get Ready" is a great tune, too. James Ingram--He has a nice voice, and his songs are pleasant to listen to. "One Hundred Ways" is very pretty, and I really like his duet with Patti Austin--"Baby Come to Me". Tend to get him confused with Jeffrey Osborne, though. INXS--I remember having to explain how to pronounce this group's name to a friend of mine. She couldn't figure it out. LOL! I was never a big fan of theirs, but I did enjoy some of the songs. "Suicide Blonde", "What You Need", and "Don't Change" are among my favorites. |

Ides Of March-Still would like to hear more of their stuff. I love that Chicago, Blood Sweat & Tears style, so I'd probably love them.
Billy Idol- I Could never stand his version of Mony Mony, but White Wedding, Eyes Without A Face, Flesh For Fantasy, Blue Highway, and Dancing With Myself are all great!
Impressions-I know about 3 of their hits, but not enough to form an opinion. Curtis Mayfield is great, though!
James Ingram-I think he did that song with Michael McDonald, "Yah Mo Be There". I like that one, but it's all I know. The early 80's R&B ballad singers (Ingram, Luther, Teddy, Al Jareau) I get them all mixed up. Not bad music, just nothing I'm an expert on.
INXS-My favorite today! Shabooh Shoobah is my FAVORITE album by them! Don't Change, The One Thing, Original Sin, some of the stuff off Kick (which I remember being HUGE in '88)... All great tunes!!

The Ides of March - The only tune I'm familiar with is Vechicle - but what a song! , a great track from beginning to end.
Billy Idol -When we were in High - School two of my best buddies were huge Billy Idol fans(they bought everything 12" singles ,LP's etc, so Rebel Yell was played lots - LOL . White Wedding was the first song I heard. I have a promotional LP of Rebel Yell , the 45 of White Wedding as well as his 1990 CD Charmed Life which was the last good thing that he did after that it was all downhill. Faves: Catch My Fall , Eyes Without a Face , White Wedding , Dancing With Myself , The Right Way , Blue Highway , Hot in The City , Cradle of Love and Flesh For Fantasy.
Impressions - I dont know much by them either but I respect them and they deserve their spot in the R &R Hall of Fame RIP Curtis Mayfield. Faves - It's Alright.
James Ingram - Never really did to much for me.
INXS - Another band my friends really liked . The Original Sin was the song that introduced me to them back in '83 / '84 . They had some great songs and yes KICK did have it's fair - share of airplay . Faves: The Original Sin , Listen like Thieves , Kiss The Dirt , Never Tear Us Apart , What You Need (great drumming!) , New Sensation , Elegently Wasted and The One Thing
