My goodness, I just went back and read my original post. I don't know what I was thinking but I totally did not realize I had typed "Thingyinson", unless that was a censor.. Either way I am ROTFL!!

It's a censor, Pete. It happens often. -- At least there isn't a REVERSE sensor filter. What would that have done with "It's Your Thing" ;D

Some hits and misses on this edition of the list. Janis Ian - Boy were her records played a lot in my house growing up. My mom loves her. "At Seventeen" was a beloved song of mine when I was a teenager - it used to make me cry at my most maudlin, "hate the world lock myself away in my room" moments. Faves: At 17, Bright Lights & Promises, Tea & Sympathy, Light A Light Information Society - "...pure energy..." Total guilty pleasure group for me. I play their first album all the time (hides face sheepishly) They're from Minnesota so they can't be that bad! Faves: What's On Your Mind, Walking Away, their cover of ABBA's Lay All Your Love On Me. Donnie Iris - I know "Love Is Like A Rock" but I never knew who sang it. Fave: that one I guess. Iron Butterfly - Not my cup 'o tea. I've never understood the appeal. Iron Maiden - Ditto for this band, but I respect them for their contribution to Metal. In college my friends and I made up this drinking game that involved using the aces in a deck of cards. My friend Tim would often break into the chorus of "Aces High" or the "Ace of Spades" by Motorhead during particularly drunken moments of the game. Good times... Isley Bros. - Good stuff here. Also played a lot in the house of my childhood. I loved how they used guitar in their songs and could go from funky to ballad in one beat. And the fact that so many of their songs have "parts" to them (like Part I and II) turning them into epics. Faves: It's Your Thing, Footsteps In The Dark, Fight The Power, Groove With You, I Wanna Be With You. What's this Minnesota thing??

Janis Ian - I really only know "At Seventeen", but I really like it. Never really knew that Janis "batted for the other team" but I guess it's not that surprising. Information Society - again, only really know that one hit but good danceable tune Donnie Iris - "Ah Leah" is one tune I still crank when it (very rarely unless I am listening to the Lost 80's lunch on CHUM FM in Toronto) comes on the radio. Iron Butterfly - that Simpsons episode is one of the funniest ones ever I do like Inna Gadda da Vida though - awesome solos in that thing Iron Maiden - not really a metal fan so they don't really register on my radar Isley Brothers - woo hoo!!! Love "This old heart of mine", "Twist and Shout" and "Shout" LOL-Batting for the other team!! Thanks for answering!! More to come!

Janis Ian- I love the song At Seventeen... Hey wasn't there someone from YL who was a personal friend of hers? Information Society- LOVED these guys!! What's on Your Mind totally reminds me of my freshman year of high school!! Donnie Iris- Whom? Iron Butterfly- I'll pass, although I love the episode of the Simpsons where they sang Ina Gadda Davida at church. Homer, "Marge, remember when we used to make out to this hymn?" ;D Iron Maiden- mmmm.... nope. Isley Brothers- Huh. I had no idea they did all of that!! Wow!! I think so! (About Janis Ian)

I'm not sure if I know "It Must Be Love", I'll have to pull out the CD and give a listen. No, "Iron Maiden" was first, "Killers" was second (IMO, the best Maiden album!), then "Number of The Beast", which was the first thingyinson album LOL. Ok, that's right!

I thought that was why you put LOL at the end of that post because you knew it would be censored like that! LOL!

Ok, first of all, the censor "thingy" is cracking me up! ;D Secondly, I think I'm in trouble, cuz I don't know much about these artists today, but I'll try and say a little something... Janis Ian--I only know the two songs you mentioned, Sat, but they're really good. I don't know why I never really got into her, cuz she seems like the type of singer/songwriter I'd like. Seems like I have an album of hers on vinyl. Guess I never listened to it. Information Society--Only know the song with Spock saying "Pure Energy" all the way thru. Catchy little tune. Donnie Iris--Just found out a couple of years ago that he sings Ah! Leah. Love that song. Also like Love is Like a Rock. That's the extent of my Donnie Iris knowledge. Iron Butterfly--Their signature song is the only song of theirs I know. Iron Maiden--Absolutely no clue about anything they've done. Isley Brothers--Great stuff from these guys. I had the 45 of That Lady, and I remember having to turn the record over to hear the whole thing. LOL! Love Shout, and Twist and Shout, and This Old Heart of Mine. Now here's my request for tomorrow (or whenever you can fit him in): Chris Isaak.

Janis Ian--for over 20 years, I've LOVED "Society's Child". Most powerful lyrics about racial equality with cool organ backing. I have gone to Janis' website, and it's pretty good! I even downloaded a picture of her at the tender age of 15! Of course, I also love "At seventeen", more than ever before. For the most part, a slice of great 70's soft rock that's my type today.
Information Society "InSoc"--to be perfectly honest, I've not listened to their music much in the last 7 years or so, but from 1988 to 1995, they were the kings of my personal pop lists. LOVED all 3 albums, "Information Society", "Hack", and their overlooked "Peace and Love Inc." Loved them even more than Human League, Depeche Mode or Erasure. Paved the way for a lot of today's techno music. Today, the 3 members are computer nuts, and a hits compilation was released recently. Faves: If it's real (3rd album) What's on your mind (well in my CRAZY top 1000) Think Walking away Peace and love inc. Crybaby (3rd album) (GREAT slow tune) Can't slow down (from Hack) Lay all your love on me Hack 1 (sample-happy tune, mostly of James Brown material) and many others...
Donnie Iris--WOO HOO!!! Arguably, one of the best rockers from the past 25 years. Released 5 albums in less than 5 years Nov. 1980-Apr. '85. It goes without saying he did a GREAT job with the Jaggerz "The Rapper", also well in my CRAZY top 1000. Also toured with Wild Cherry (Play that funky music). Ecstatic to have an MCA compilation CD. Faves: Ah! Leah! (Absolutely one of the 80's best) Love is like a rock Sweet Merilee (VERY overlooked) Tough world My girl Do you compute She's so European Agnes
Iron Butterfly--GROOVY, man! Still don't know much beyond the AWESOME 17 minute In-a-gadda-da-vida, but being the neo-psychedelic person I've been recently, I hope to investigate further. LOVE the album cover of "Ball".
Iron Maiden--One of the kings of metal. Loved their music in the 80's, but hardly listen to them much today. I do have "Number of the beast" on cassette, and it's still a good listen. Bruce D!ckinson's a killer vocalist, along with guitarist K.K. Downing, an early pioneer of the Flying V. Faves: Run to the hills Number of the beast Wasted years Flight of Icarus Aces high Hallowed be thy name Can I play with madness The trooper Wrathchild
Isley Brothers-ATTENTION EVERYONE! After about 5 years of trying, they did get inducted into the Hall in 1992. And well deserved. Over 40 years strong of recording, even though original Isley O'Kelley passed away in 1986. I just can't say enough about these legends. My fave today, they are dynamically wonderful. Faves: IT'S YOUR THING!!! (WOO!!! High top 1000 placement!) This old heart of mine (One of the best Motown recordings ever) Shout (Parts 1 & 2) That lady (full version--SMOKIN' guitar!) Twist and shout (known to my dad as "Scream and yell", LOL) Fight the power (bullsh!t!) Pop that thang Footsteps in the dark Harvest for the world Work to do Love the one you're with I turned you on For the love of you Don't say goodnight Take me to the next phase many others...
