I promised dodger today would be a strong day. It started out strong, but I threw in a couple smaller acts, but overall, it's still ok. Alan Jackson-One of the Jacksons we forgot! Michael's hillbilly brother. I don't like the country guys on the whole. Well I like Alabama's older stuff. But if I had to pick one I didn't mind, I'd probably pick him. He has the old country sound, but he's not too annoying. EXCEPT when he won like 684 awards for Where Were You When the World Stopped Turning! Nice song though. Don't own anything though, don't plan to. Faves-Pop a Top, Don't Rock the Jukebox, Drive. Jackson 5-They really were good. Fun act, junior version of the Temptations maybe? Evolved into the Jacksons, which were much more funky. In the Hall, and deserve it. Too bad Michael became such a screw up in subsequent years! Faves-Never Can Say Goodbye (love it), I'll Be There, The Love You Save. Mick Jagger-A Stone going solo wasn't QUITE the same as one of the Beatles going solo, was it? Not even Ringo! The two singles from the She's the Boss LP got lots of radio and MTV play. And then there was the cover he did with Bowie. Yes, I own the single. *Hangs head in shame* He had a cool tune years later called Don't Tear Me Up that didn't become a big hit. Faves-Don't Tear Me Up, Just Another Night, Lucky in Love. Tommy James & the Shondells-I like them alot. Another band I forget HOW MUCH I like until I really think about it. Tommy James, I have seen described as being the King of Bubble Gum! LOL! Of course, Bubble Gum pop was different then than now! I have the original Greatest Hits cassette, and through and through, every song is great! I'd like to update onto disc with the Rhino collection. Should they be in the Hall? Hmmmmm, maybe. But there are others ahead of them. Faves-Crystal Blue Persuasion, Mirage, Sweet Cherry Wine, Ball of Fire, Draggin' the Line (Tommy solo). James Gang-I believe their first album was 69, and they pretty much rocked out, considering when that was. Weird how Joe ended up joining a group like the Eagles, but then again he made them rock more. Of course radio only plays Walk Away and Funk 49, but I borrowed a compilation of theirs, and there are other good tunes. If you like straight forward hard rock, Joe Walsh, and those two songs, you should check it out! I ended up getting that same tape myself at a garage sale for like .50! LOL! Faves-Walk Away, Stop, Funk 49. Your turn!

Alan Jackson - I'm not into traditional country, and I'm only familiar with "Where were you" It's a little too religious for my taste, and I probably wouldn't pay any attention to it except for what it represented. I put this and a few other serious songs in a two cd mix I burned that I titled "F*ck Bin Laden" - the rest of the cd has stuff like "Osama got Run Over By a Reindeer" and "Osama Yo Mama"
Jackson 5 - A really fun group back in the early 70s. ABC, The Love You Save and Never Can Say Goodbye are pleasant. I really like I'll Be There (but Michael should have learned that the word is "pact" (with a "T") Later on, I liked Enjoy Yourself and Shake Your Body.
Mick Jagger- As a solo act, only familiar with Dancing In the Street, and I didn't much care for it.
Tommy James & the Shondells - I like many of their songs bubblegum or not. I Think We're Alone Now, Mony Mony (blows Billy the Albino away), Crystal Blue Persuasion, Getting Together, Sweet Cherry Wine (you don't here this one much), and Crimson and Clover (love the extended version)
James Gang- Heard of them - but don't know their music.

Alan Jackson - I really wasn't too familiar with him until recently, but the songs I've heard by him have impressed me. He does have that traditional country sound, very similar in style to George Jones. Favorites: Pop A Top (also love Jim Ed Brown's original), Don't Rock the Jukebox, Where Were You When the World Stopped Turning?.
Jackson 5 - Yes indeed! Very fresh and fun, with an appealing innocence, and there's no denying that Michael was quite talented. I like pretty much everything they've done. Favorites: Never Can Say Goodbye (wonderful!), Blame It on the Boogie, Show You the Way to Go, Enjoy Yourself, Heartbreak Hotel, Lovely One, Shake Your Body.
Mick Jagger - I really like 'Just Another Night' and 'Lucky in Love', but didn't care for 'Dancing in the Street' for some reason.
Tommy James & the Shondells - Like you, I often forget how much I like this group until I listen to the greatest hits. I agree, that album is solid all the way through! Very pleasant 60's pop. Favorites: Baby, Baby (that song is my second favorite of all 60's songs, after Wear Your Love Like Heaven), Crystal Blue Persuasion, Sweet Cherry Wine, Ball of Fire.
James Gang - This is a group I discovered relatively recently. At one time, I had heard 'Walk Away', thought it was a Joe Walsh solo, and was puzzled when I couldn't find it under his name! LOL! Great rock with a definite edge. Favorites: Walk Away, Funk #48, Funk #49.

Alan Jackson - I know who he is but I couldn't begin to tell you anything about him. I knew he recorded a tribute song about 9/11 but I've never heard it and I didn't know the name of it until I read your post.
Jackson 5 - Unbelievably talented. Great tunes for road trips and parties. Faves: Never Can Say Goodbye (never fails to bring a tear), I Want You Back, Who's Lovin' You, Dancing Machine
Mick Jagger - Nope. A misguided solo effort IMO.
Tommy James & The Shondells - I agree with you about forgetting how good this band was. I've never liked Crystal Blue Persusasion or Crimson & Clover though. I remember seeing Tommy James interviewed in his huge gorgeous Bel Air mansion when Billy Idol covered Mony, Mony. James was talking about the fact that his songs had been covered so many times by various artists over the decades that he lived quite comfortably on the royalties - good for him! Faves: It's Only Love, Mirage, Hanky Panky, I Like The Way
James Gang - Never really could get into them. I really only like some of Joe Walsh's solo offerings so I've never really explored this band's music. Fave: Walk Away

Alan Jackson- I always dismissed him as cornball country, but the women in my family all love him. And although he did win far too many awards for that 9/11 song, it was a touching tribute.
Jackson 5- Definitely a pop icon of the late '60's, early '70's. I liked a lot of their hits...I just wish that not every junior singer on Star Search would sing one of their hits.
Mick Jagger-Mick Jagger is cool...I just think he did better work with the band, is all.
Tommy James & the Shondells-Draggin' The Line is one of my all time faves...and the funny thing is that until now, I had no idea who sang it! LOL!
James Gang- N/A. Sorry.

Alan Jackson -Mike's hillbilly brother LOL - I love that! Alan Jackson - Another country artist I don't know.
Jackson 5 - With the possible exception of Michael, The Jacksons are (were) much better collectively than individually (imo). First 6 singles were either #1 or #2 on the charts. Pretty impressive. Favorites: I Want You Back, Never Can Say Goodbye, The Love You Save, Shake Your Body, State of Shock.
Mick Jagger - Should never have gone solo.
Tommy James & the Shondells - One of the really fun groups of the late 60s/early 70s. A real impresseive chart history (2 #1, 5 other top 10s, plus one for Tommy's solo career). Probably a longshot for the Rockhall, but maybe someday. Favorites: I Think We're Alone Now, Mony Mony, Crimson & Clover, Crystal Blue Persuasion, Draggin' A Line
James Gang - These guys rock. Got the Thirds album on vinyl and kinda wore it out. My intro to Joe Walsh, who is still rockin' today. Favorites: Funk #49, Walk Away, Midnight Man, Must Be Love, Living My Life Again, Dreaming in the Country.
Pretty good list today.

Wow, I have really missed these artist opinion polls! Now don't forget, Adam, you are supposed to put someone on this list for me...you promised me at YL. Let's see if you remember.
Alan Jackson-I'm kind of like you are on this. I prefer the women of country, but I like Alan alright. Faves-Chattahoochie, Don't Rock the Jukebox, Where Were You.
Jackson 5-Good wholesome pop. Good group, nice sound. Faves-ABC, I'll Be There.
Mick Jagger-UGH! I hate Jagger! He gets on my friggin' nerves!

Alan Jackson-I don't listen to him, but I've heard "Chatahoochie" and I think it's OK.. Jackson5/Jacksons-It's so sad to see what became of Michael, when in the 70's he seemed so "normal" as he was growing up. All the Motown stuff was great, especially "Maybe Tomorrow", "Never Can Say Goodbye", "The Love You Save", etc... I'm so sick of "ABC", though (not that I ever really cared for it to begin with. An 11 year old telling his 11 year old "girlfriend" to "Show me what you can do!! Shake it, shake it, baby" doesn't appeal to me). I like a lot of the Epic tunes too, they did a record in '77 called "Show You The Way To Go" (#1 in England, #28 in U.S!!), which is probably my favorite record of theirs. Mick Jagger- I remember when "She's The Boss" came out. Many of the cuts got BIG airplay in Boston. I thought it was a decent album, but his heyday was LONG gone by that point. It would have been cooler if he'd done a solo album 10 years earlier. Tommy James & The Shondells- I have both the Rhino Anthology CD AND The long out-of-print Solo Years CD. He's one of my favorite 60's pop artists. Kind of like the Bon Jovi of his day, only his songs were actually GOOD! I've always paid particulary close attention to the later Shondells singles (Ball Of Fire, Loved One, She, Sugar On Sunday, Sweet Cherry Wine...) But they were ALL great!! James Gang-I've heard bits and pieces here and there but have never heard much of them. Joe was always a tremendous talent, though.

Let's see...
Alan Jackson--okay. The only one I really like is "Chattahoochee" (A lot about livin' and a little bout love!) Unforgettable video relaxing in a plastic raft! Also passable were Don't rock the jukebox and his cover of Summertime blues.
Jackson 5--Years ago, this would have been my fave of the 5. But my like of them has slightly diminished, but still good songs to listen to. All my siblings grew up enjoying their music. Faves: (Motown) ABC I want you back Dancing machine The love you save Mama's pearl Sugar daddy (The 2 ballads were all right) (Epic) Lovely one (LOVED this outta the box, and it seems VASTLY forgotten today) Enjoy yourself Shake your body State of shock (with Mick Jagger) Show you the way to go Torture
Mick Jagger--Seems ironic, next to the Jacksons, hmmm? ;D I really liked his solo career in the mid 80's, but I hardly have paid much attention to it recently vs. all the better Stones output from the last 40 years. Faves: Lucky in love (FUNNY song!) Just another night Let's work Sweet thing
Tommy James & the Shondells-my fave of the 5 today. Tommy James, a wonderful singer and songwriter (often with Ritchie Cordell), had the spotlight SO much, it's easy to forget how great the Shondells were. Eddie Gray-fine guitarist. Mike Vale-created some of the most memorable bass hooks in history "I think we're alone now", "Mony Mony". Pete Lucia-not the best drummer, but really gave "Hanky panky" and others a beat. And best of all--Ronnie Rossman--one very overlooked KILLER organist, especially on Mirage! In fact, they should belong in the hall, bubblegum image aside. Faves: Crystal blue persuasion Mony mony Mirage Hanky panky I think we're alone now Crimson and clover Draggin' the line (all of the above--some of the best songs EVER) Do something to me Say I am Sweet cherry wine Three times in love (solo) I like the way Gettin' together She Ball of fire Get out now (Baby baby) I can't take it no more Gotta get back to you I'm comin' home (solo) Boo boo, don'cha be blue (solo) Sugar on Sunday (The Clique had a hit remake) Run, run, baby, run Shake a tail feather Good lovin' (Did anyone do a bad version of it?) You're so easy to love (solo) Cat's eye in the window (solo)
James Gang--have rather limited knowledge of them, but Joe was essentially THE group--guitar and vocals. LOVE "Walk away", and "Funk 49" and Funk 48" are great, too. Also know 2 other tunes: "Must be love" and "Midnight man".
