Couple of biggies today! Hall of Famer pianists! Joan Jett & the Blackhearts-I Love Rock-n-Roll was HUGE for them! And it wasn't even an original. Actually, I thought she did a good job on two other covers-Crimson and Clover and Everyday People. Have the 45 of Crimson. But without a doubt, my fave is Do You Wanna Touch (Oh Yeah). Liked it then, and rediscovered how much when it was featured in a Beavis and Butthead episode! LOL!! Good tough chick, need the greatest hits! Faves-Do You Wanna Touch, Crimson and Clover, I Love Rock-n-Roll. Billy Joel-Loads of talent, good songwriter and piano player. But I personally don't get into him. At times it seems like he tries TOO hard to be cool. But, like many artists with so many famous songs, there are several I like, but just not a large number compared to how many he has. I respect him and his place in the Hall, just don't get into him. Faves-Don't Ask Me Why, I Go to Extremes (great song for so late in his career), Sometimes a Fantasy. Elton John-Now for the man who influenced Billy. I have gone up and down about Elton. I am currently "up" and will pretty much stay there. As a kid, I didn't like his big hits. But then I got into classic rock and discovered how many KILLER album cuts he has! And I have even ended up liking some of his hits again (Bennie and the Jets, Daniel, etc). All that being said, I thought he got SO weak after the Kiki duet. The only exception being Little Jeanie, which was passable. Faves-Grey Seal, Burn Down the Mission, Where to St Peter?, Amoreena, Philadelphia Freedom. Robert John-Not too much here. Like the original Lion Sleeps Tonight better. But Sad Eyes is a great song. So "of the times", that mellow late 70s sound. Good tune. Fave-Sad Eyes. Carolyn Dawn Johnson-I'm hoping Lora answers today, she may be the only other person familiar with CDJ (as the country crowd calls her)! She started out as Martina's backup singer, featured on Martina's crossover hit, I Love You, among others. From that, she got her own record deal, and her album produced three hit singles. She won best new artist on one of the country award songs. She has a sweet, happy voice. Nothing dynamic (like Martina ), but nice songs. Faves-I Don't Want You to Go, Complicated, Georgia. And you?

Joan Jett ~ She was way cool in her day!! Did you ever have to hear the Britney Spears version of I Love Rock and Roll? Scary.... very scary....
Billy Joel and Elton John ~ Two of my all time favorites!! I would LOVE to see the show they do together. As far as Billy goes, I like his earlier stuff way better. But Elton endures and I have favorites from almost every phase of his career.
I have no idea about these other two, so I'm going to have to pass.

Joan Jett & the Blackhearts-I Love Rock and Roll and Bad Reputation were awesome hits. I really liked both of them.
Billy Joel-Well, I didn't really get into his earlier music, but I liked a lot of his hits from the early '80's, like "Uptown Girl", "Pressure", and "Tell Her About It". I hear he's gone classical now.
Elton John-Elton was cool, and he's probably had more hits than I can even count. I really liked a lot of his hits from the '70's, like "Tiny Dancer", and in the '80's, he had the hits "I Guess That's Why They Call It The Blues", "I Don't Wanna Go on with you Like That", and "Nikita". And, he shined with the "Lion King" soundtrack. All in all, a great artist.
Robert John-I only know the song "Sad Eyes", which is an okay song.
Carolyn Dawn Johnson-Actually, I have heard of Carolyn Dawn Johnson. She's Canadian, BTW. I think she sort of sounds more pop than country, but she's one of the few country artists I can listen to.

Damn, forgot Bad Reputation! Didn't crack the Hot 100 here, so I overlooked it! Elton-are you thinking of the song, "I Don't Wanna Go on With You Like That"? CDJ-that's right, I shoulda figured you Canucks would know here better! She's won awards up there! That's why I like so many country artists now-not too country, not too pop.

Joan Jett & the Blackhearts - One of the few female artists to record "harder" material at that time. Great songs that still hold up well today. Favorites: I Love Rock n Roll, Crimson and Clover.
Billy Joel - I've always enjoyed his music. He's recorded songs in many different styles, and pulled it off very well. Having said that, I think his mid 80's and later material hasn't been particularly strong, but his earlier material was top-notch for the most part. Favorites: My Life, The Stranger, Just the Way You Are, Big Shot, Allentown.
Elton John - One of my favorite male artists, second only to Paul McCartney. What a tremendous career he's had! But like Billy Joel, his later work hasn't measured up to his earlier material, which was consistently superb. Favorites: Philadelphia Freedom, Your Song, Goodbye Yellow Brick Road, Island Girl, Don't Go Breaking My Heart, Mama Can't Buy You Love, Nobody Wins, I'm Still Standing.
Robert John - I've always loved 'Sad Eyes', but I've never been wild about 'The Lion Sleeps Tonight'.
Carolyn Dawn Johnson - This is an artist I want to investigate soon. From our recent discussions about her, I think she's an artist I'd really enjoy.

Joan Jett-Oh, man, I had the biggest crush on her!! She was better looking than Lita Ford, Pat Benatar, ALL those 80s female rockers! Then I saw her recently on VH1 with the blond crew cut and was like "What happened?" Most of her hits were cover tunes, she was obviously a big Gary Glitter fan.
Billy Joel-I like some of his songs, anyone who grew up in the late 70s and early 80s couldn't escape those hits. But, (and I will probably get a lot of flak for this), he always reminded me of a lounge singer trying to be a Rock n' Roller.
Elton John-He ain't no lounge singer, LOL! One of the greatest talents ever. His best stuff was in the 70s, but just the fact that he's STILL successful after all this time speaks volumes!
Robert John-"Sad Eyes" was good. Have "Lion" on Have A Nice Day vol. 16, but was never crazy about the song to begin with.
Carolyn Dawn Johnson-Don't know....

Excellent list, today! Joan Jett--An all time favorite of mine. First discovered her when "I Love Rock and Roll" came out. Then, I investigated further, found out about the group The Runaways, and really really liked the songs they did. She's a tough, take-no-prisoners rocker chick. I'm a big fan. Never get tired of listening to her. And I got to meet her in the late 80's! Favorites: I Love Rock and Roll, Bad Reputation, Cherry Bomb, You're Too Possessive, Black Leather, Fake Friends, I Hate Myself for Loving You, many many more. Billy Joel--Loved him back in the 70's. "The Stranger" album was excellent. I also loved "Glass Houses". Some of his mid/late 80's stuff is good, too. Faves: Honesty, The Longest Time, Say Goodbye to Hollywood, Movin Out, Get it Right the First Time, My Life, Big Shot, Sometimes a Fantasy, She's Got a Way, lots more... Elton John--Another artist with staying power, and one of my favorites. Liked him a lot in the 70's and 80's. I love the album "Too Low for Zero". I think I wore it out playing it so much. His Disney stuff in the 90's got a little sappy and I never cared much for it, though. And "Candle in the Wind"--gawd, if I never hear that song again, it'll be too soon. But I do have some faves, obviously. ;D Tiny Dancer, Sacrifice, I Guess That's Why They Call it the Blues, I'm Still Standing, Empty Garden, Daniel, Levon, Island Girl, Your Song, Rocket Man, plenty more... Robert John--Sad Eyes and Lion are ok. Is that all he ever did? Carolyn Dawn Johnson--I know "Complicated". They're playing that on the "pop" station I listen to. The only other reason I know her is because you've told me about her, Sat. I'm gonna have to give her a little better listen sometime.

I sometimes have to look at his body of work to remember how much I like him!

I know I only listed 5, but beyond that, my faves are different than yours! LOL!! That IS a sad song! BIG TIME!! She is pretty cute.
