Great List Today Sat
1. Joan Jett & the Blackhearts - I Love Rock & Roll, Put Another Dime in the Jukebox. What a song. Put the guitar in Crimson & Clover. Along with Pat Benatar, the elite female rockers in the early 80s. Left her off my "road songs list." Favorites: I Love Rock & Roll, Crimson & Clover, Everyday People, & Do You Want to Touch Me
2. Billy Joel - Have liked Billy throughout his career, although I think his music up through about 1984 is his best. Don't listen to him much anymore, although I got several albums on vinyl and his greatest hits on CD. Favorites: Uptown Girl, Innocent Man, Allentown, & Just the Way You Are.
3. Elton John - One of the preeminent piano players of the rock era. What more needs to be said. Has made lots of hits, but I'm partial to his early stuff. Again, ton of stuff on vinyl. Favorites: Candle in the Wind, Your Song, Madman Across the Water (entire album), Empty Garden, Daniel, & Crocodile Rock.
4. Robert John - Sad Eyes was ok, probably just the era it was released in. Really prefer the Tokens version of the Lion Sleeps Tonight. No real favorites
5. Carlolyn Dawn Johson - ?

Joan Jett & the Blackhearts: Yeah, oh yeah, OH YEAH!!! ;DThis chick could outrock all women of her period (sorry Stevie and Pat). She STILL looks like she could hold her own in a bar fight, but that's beside the point. I am almost always impressed by women who play electric guitar. This band's music always makes me want to pump my fist into the air in enthusiasm. Can't get enough of it! Favorites = I Love Rock and Roll, Crimson and Clover, Do You Want to Touch Me, I Didn't Know I Loved You ('Till I Saw You Rock and Roll) Billy Joel: Billy, Billy, Billy....what happened to you!?! Talented singer/songwriter/piano man who cranked out a series of great albums from the early 70's through the mid 80's and then lost his way. His songs are very nostalgic, descriptive and emotional...they strike you in your mid-section. Lot's of childhood and high school memories tied into his music. Favorites = Piano Man, Movin' Out (Anthony's Song), Scenes From an Italian Restaurant, Big Shot, My Life, You May Be Right, It's Still Rock and Roll To Me, It's Just a Fantasy, Uptown Girl, The Longest Time, She's Always a Woman, Pressure Elton John: Reginald Dwight has certainly had a long career. Has lived here in Atlanta part-time for 10 years or so and is frequently spotted at upscale shopping malls buying TONS of clothes and shoes . He was much better when collaborating with Bernie Taupin in the 70's...that was quite a team. Another artist whose middle-aged mellowing has been more than I can accept. Post 1983 very is very little that I like, pre 1983 there is very little that I DON'T. Favorites = Your Song, Crocodile Rock, Daniel, Rocket Man, Goodbye Yellow Brick Road, Philadelphia Freedom, Don't Go Breakin' My Heart, Little Jeannie, I Don't Want to Go On With You Like That Robert John: I'm sure I'm not the only one who thought that "Sad Eyes" was sung by a female at first. Mind-blowing that a man can have such a high falsetto voice. Otherwise, not much I have to say about him. He sort of had two brief blips on the pop scene and faded quickly away afterwards. Favorites = Sad Eyes Carolyn Dawn Johnson: (blank stare) Seems like she sat across from me in 3rd period English Lit in 10th grade...oh wait, that was Carol Ann Martin, or was it Dawn McClure. Heck, I dunno. As for the singer I've never heard of her

Joan Jett-great rock 'n roller! Recorded to the world one of the true rock anthems, put the Arrows' original right into oblivion. Never raved over the '88 release "Up your alley", though. And 1994's "Backlash" was SEVERELY overlooked. Faves: I love rock 'n roll (what else?) Crimson and clover Fake friends Good music Dirty deeds Eye to eye I love you love me love Bad reputation HATED their take on "Everyday people". Billy Joel-very mixed about him. Some songs are overplayed so badly, I'd rather jump off the Golden Gate Bridge. Other hits are so oblivious today, I LOVE them. But overall, a fine pop composer. Being the demented person I am, I also like the ORIGINAL '71 version of "Cold Spring Harbor". Faves: My life (LONG version only! WOOOO HOOO!!!) It's still rock and roll to me (1980's most airplayed record--why is it NEVER played anymore now?) Just the way you are (OUTSTANDING electric piano) Uptown girl (One, oddly, I don't get sick of) We didn't start the fire (Harry Truman, Doris Day, Red China, Johnnie Ray...) Tell her about it Modern woman (Sorry Billy. I LOVE it.) You may be right Pressure You're only human Say goodbye to Hollywood (live--NO early fade-out!) The river of dreams (In the middle of the night) The longest time Big shot Allentown Don't ask me why (Quite McCartney-esque) Movin' out The night is still young (Rock 'n roll music was the only thing I cared about...) Piano man All for Leyna (Glass houses was his best!) Keeping the faith (45 remix) Sometimes a fantasy Honesty Angry young man Close to the borderline Elton John-what more can be said about this modern day pop legend. Honestly, HE should be the "King of Pop". My fave today, and I've loved hearing his music for 30 years now. Definitely a major part to the soundtrack of my life. What a man. Faves: LONG list here as well! #1!-PHILADELPHIA FREEDOM Bennie and the Jets Mama can't buy you love (WOOO! LOVED this since day 1) Crocodile rock Island girl Candle in the wind (all versions) Don't go breaking my heart I'm still standing Daniel Lucy in the sky with diamonds Blue eyes (LOVE this ballad more than ever before) I don't wanna go on with you like that (LOVE the video) Don't let the sun go down on me Can you feel the love tonight Sad songs say so much The b!tch is back Your song Little Jeannie Saturday night's alright for fighting Nobody wins Honky cat Wrap her up Goodbye yellow brick road Club at the end of the street Believe Rocket man Healing hands Sacrifice In neon The one Nikita I guess that's why they call it the blues Bite your lip (Get up and dance!) Circle of life Written in the stars (1999's most overlooked tune) Grow some funk of your own Levon Part-time love Simple life Heartache all over the world Elderberry wine Sorry seems to be the hardest word All the girls love Alice Friends Song for Guy The last song Take me to the pilot Border song Made in England Empty garden Who wears these shoes Victim of love Ego Kiss the bride A word in Spanish Sartorial eloquence True love (w/Kiki Dee) Captain Fantastic... Act of war (VERY overlooked '85 tune w/Millie Jackson) Burn down the mission Tiny dancer Jamaica jerk off Your sister can't twist... Pinball wizard Someday out of the blue Too low for zero This song has no title Love song You gotta love someone Grey seal Mona Lisas and Mad hatters Robert John-I probably know more about this guy here than anyone else. Born Robert Pedrick Jr. in 1946, he made the HOT 100 in 1958 all of 12 years old with "White bucks and saddle shoes". A decade later, he had a GREAT one in "If you don't want my love", a near-top 40 hit. Then 1972, had that GREAT remake in "The lion sleeps tonight". And his best hit period was in the late 70's and early 80's! LOVED "Sad eyes" in the early fall '79 (Yup, thought it was a woman) as well as remakes of "Hey there lonely girl" and "Bread and butter". I wonder what he's been up to recently... Carolyn Dawn Johnson--sorry, I'd rather listen to Avril Lavigne's "Complicated".

Billy Joel...Despite a few carreer misteps (You're Only Human" anyone?) he's managed to remain a favorite of mine through the years. "Turnstiles" is IMHO his BEST album. As is usual, I lean toward the "non-hits" as faves. Besides the "Turnstiles album I like: --Scenes From an Italian Restaurant --Vienna --Great Suburban SHowdown --Roberta --SHamless --Goodnight Saigon --CAptain Jack --You're My Home --Streetlife Serenade --Summer Highland Falls --Stilletto --Zanzibar --Half A Mile Away --Downeaster ALexa --Leningrad

I like Cherry Bomb too! Did Joanie did it solo, I mean a studio version? I think you'd dig CDJ's stuff! Had to go get out my Joan Jett CD's to find the answer to your question. Of the Joan CD's I have, Cherry Bomb can be found on four of them. "Fetish", from 1999; "Glorious Results of a Misspent Youth" from 1984; "Fit to Be Tied"--a greatest hits collection from 1997 (which is taken from the Glorious Results CD), and "Flashback" from 1993 which is performed live with the band L7 for a Rock for Choice benefit. So...lotsa choices there for ya. Makes me want to go listen to some Joan Jett, now.

Joan Jett & the Blackhearts- Being a woman and in a band was too cool back in the 80's. I really liked some of her songs, especially I Love Rock and Roll. My friends and I used to be very proud of those ladies bands, we thought it would've been cool to have our own. Duh, ;D
Billy Joel- I wasn't too excited about his music. It was good and all, but I was too wild for his music. kinda' boring for me back in those days, you know.
Elton John-same thing as Billy Joel. I enjoy his music this days more.
