These first three are requests from Dave!
Jewel-The first album is the only one I ever heard anything off of. Is there any drums on that album? LOL! We have it, taped off of someone. Nice stuff, very pleasant, and I never listen to it. Fave-Who Will Save Your Soul.
R. Kelly-The only thing I know is I Believe I Can Fly. Ok, go ahead then. LOL! Seriously, just not my style of music. Nothing bad to say, just not me. No faves.
Keith-The only tune I know is 98.6, which is an AWESOME tune! I remember picking up a compilation disc for my dad because he wanted Ain't Gonna Lie by Keith, but I still haven't heard it. If it is anything like 98.6, cool! Fave-98.6.
Ben E. King-SICK TO DEATH of Stand By Me. Especially when the movie came out! Nice voice, but nothing I would go and buy. Fave-Spanish Harlem.
Carole King-This is the only stand out for me today! What a talent! Heard her stuff growing up, probably part of the reason I like so many female singers now. Of course Tapestry is a legendary piece. So much so, that 2 singles in a row were TSW (two sided winners). She is in the Hall with Goffin as songwriters (OF COURSE), but I am thinking there should be a place for her as a PERFORMER. Faves-Jazzman, I Feel the Earth Move, It's Too Late.
And you?

Jewel - Heard of them, don't know them
R. Kelly - ?
Keith - 98.6 is a pretty good song. Had two other top 40s, but I don't know them.
Ben E. King - Did some decent stuff with the Drifters, but Stand By Me and Spanish Harlem are the only two songs I like from his solo career.
Carole King - One of the best female singers ever. Great songwriter, great performer. Tapestry is a must have album for any collection. I have it on vinyl. Certainly merits serious Rockhall consideration as a performer. Never tire of her music. Favorites: It's too Late, Tapestry, Been to Canaan, Corazon, So Far Away, Jazzman, Hard Rock Café.

Her "image" has been overhauled - she went from the girl next - door to DIVA ! I saw her latest video (well I think it is - the video resembles a Levi Jeans commercial) then I saw her the other night on one of those Diva concert specials - she was singing , I beleive Proud Mary with Beyonce(sp?) and I thought wow she sure has changed LOL Faves : Foolish Games and You Were Meant For Me R Kelly - He doesn't do much for me at all . I got tired of I Believe I Can Fly very quickly - Faves : none Keith - Same here Adam - the only tune I've ever heard is 98.6(love it) I'd like to hear more though sometime . Faves : 98.6 Ben E King - Great voice! Faves: Stand By Me and Spanish Harlem Carole King - She has written so many great tunes over the years alone , and with one time hubby Gerry Goffin. I figured that she had to be in the Hall of Fame - shame on them if she wasn't. I've had a few copies (on vinyl) of Tapestry ( FINALLY got a mint one not long ago - Their tough to find in nice shape) and also picked up the 45 of Jazzman with picture sleeve shortly before Christmas for a dollar! it's sitting behind me as I type this. Faves : So Far Away , Jazzman , Hard Rock Cafe , It's Too Late , I Feel The Earth Move and You've Got a Friend.

Jewel - Not a favorite, but not bad. She has an interesting bluesy quality to her voice. I had gotten back into listening to some top 40 for a brief period (1995-97), and did grow a little tired of her songs at one point, but I've grown to appreciate them again. Favorites: Who Will Save Your Soul, You Were Meant for Me.
R. Kelly - I only know 'I Believe I Can Fly'. It's okay - not bad, not great.
Keith - I also only know '98.6', and I agree, it is fantastic! I first heard it on an oldies station back in 1989, and loved it immediately. I can still remember buying a compilation cassette with that song on it at K-mart back in early 1991.
Ben E. King - Like you, I've grown tired of 'Stand By Me', but I love his hit from '75, 'Supernatural Thing'.
Carole King - A tremendous talent. She most definitely deserves inclusion in the Hall as a performer as well as a songwriter. So many of her songs are classics, and still stand up beautifully today. Favorites: Nightingale, Jazzman, Only Love is Real, It's Too Late, I Feel the Earth Move, Morning Sun.

Hopefully the people at the Hall will get their CRAPOLA together and put Carole in!

Jewel--I enjoy her music very much. I listened to "Pieces of You" quite a bit a few years ago. I like her other CD's, too. I've only heard her new song (Intuition? I think that's the name of it) a couple of times, but I really like it.
R. Kelly--I'll pass.
Keith--98.6 is a great song. That's all I know by him.
Ben E. King--Hasn't he had like, a ton of songs? But yet, Stand By Me and Spanish Harlem are the only two that come to mind, for some reason.
Carole King--Tapestry is a classic. You've Got a Friend is my favorite song, bar none. I've always wanted to see her perform live in concert, but never got the chance. She's one of my all time favorites.

Ben E. had a fair amount, not at James Brown levels, most missing the top 20. Didja ever see Carole's concert on PBS with Slash as one of her guests? WTF was that?? What's next, Joni Mitchell with Blackie Lawless from WASP on her next album??

Jewel-BEAUTIFUL girl, but she needs to lighten up a little. I saw her interviewed on the Lilith Fair Behind The Music, and she was all bent out of shape about a Rolling Stone cover article on the Fair. It was titled, "Hail! Hail! The gang's all here" and she had a problem with THAT! She said "Was Soundgarden ever called a 'gang'?, was Pearl Jam ever called a GANG?" (No, but if they were, they probably wouldn't have a problem with it). It's a PUN, honey! Don't be so uptight! As for her music, I liked Who Will Save Your Soul, but she's just way TOO serious!
R Kelly-Nah, I don't do twelve year-old girls ("D'oh!"). I can't think of ANY R&B since 1985 that I actually like!
Keith-I like all three of his hits. "Ain't Gonna Lie" is FANTASTIC, it has that mid 60's "sound" that I love so much. "Tell It To My Face" kind of has a Middle Eastern vibe to it, and of course "98.6", which is one of the best pop records ever! They just don't make 'em like that anymore, and it's a shame!
Ben E. King-Yeah, I'm sick of "Stand By Me" as well, as well as all it's cover versions (even John Lennon's!) "Spanish Harlem was great, but Aretha did it better. "Supernatural Thing" was probably my favorite, even a former Drifter had a Disco hit!!
Carole King-EASILY my favorite today. ALL these female singer/songwriters today WISH they could be Carole King! But Carole had class, Carole wrote GREAT songs that didn't all sound the same. Carole is one of the greatest writers EVER (male or female).

These first three are requests from Dave! Jewel R. Kelly Keith Ben E. King. Carole King Jewel: I could sit in the front row at one of her concerts and never hear a note or a lyric because I'd just be having all kinds of daydreams about her. As for her music..eh, some of it is okay. She paid her dues and deserves her success...I mean, she was living in a Volkswagon bus for a while back in 1995. Favorites = Who Will Save Your Soul, You Were Meant For Me R. Kelly: If I have to hear "Ignition" on the radio one more time I'm going to scream. Okay, personally I think he's a creepy pedophile type and I've never liked his music much. Those are the most positive things I can say about him. Favorites = Bump -N- Grind, Sex Me Keith: I don't remember 98.6 but have heard of it. No favorites Ben E. King: Really enjoyed "Stand By Me" and the movie in which it is included (why can't I remember the name of it!?!). Puts his heart into the song Favorites = Stand By Me Carole King: Legendary songwriter along with her (future) husband Gerry Goffin. This team had a hand in numerous hits in the 1961-1963 period before the British Invasion pushed them back into relative obscurity. In 1971 she came back strong with the album "Tapestry" which was a favorite of my Mother's. One of my earliest memories is dancing around in my playpen to "I Feel the Earth Move" one night. I think she has a very nice voice though her music is quite dated now. Favorites: It's Too Late, I Feel the Earth Move

Jewel--I really like her music. She's different, and that's cool. Her new song is pretty good, but it's so...not Jewel. Faves- You Were Meant for Me, Hands, Standing Still
R. Kelly--He's alright. I really like I Believe I Can Fly and I'm Your Angel, which he did with Celine Dion. It's a beautiful song.
Carole King--I really love Carole King. She's got a wonderful voice, and her songwriting can be beaten by very few others. Wonderful artist.
