Jewel-Well, I used to swim at the same beach (Mission Beach--San Diego) on which she used to live (Okay, so there was 20 years difference or so...) R. Kelly->>The only thing I know is I Believe I Can Fly<< (Ditto) and I like it; too bad he turned out to be SUCH a creep! Keith-I keep thinking he had another hit BESIDES 98.6, but no matter I like that one (Plus I remember when it was on the charts! It was sometime around kindergarten. LOL!) Ben E. King-After all these years I'm STILL not sick of "Stand By Me"; I like "Spanish Harlem", too Carole King-Ever since his sister sent me his copy of "Tapestry" I will ALWAYS think of "The Professor" when I think of Carole King! Favorites: Well, I just LOVE that WHOLE CD!!! (Plus "Jazzman"--which I, at one time, thought was "Jasmine". LOL!)

No, I won't write a 3 page essay! ;D Jewel-One of the finest female voices of the last 10 years. Her new album's (4th I believe) is due out soon, but not crazy to get it. I only have her second album, but I do plan to burn her smash debut CD sometime soon. Absolutely lovely to look at, passionate voice in lots of her songs. There's still some good music out there today! Faves: Foolish games (Just beautiful.) Hands Who will save your soul Break me You were meant for me (The single mix REALLY burnt out on me!) Jupiter Standing still Intuition Down so long Pieces of you Keith-to me, an early "bubblegum" artist. Born James Barry Keefer in Philadelphia, he was still in his teens when he had a small slice of the 60's top 40 pie. Very polished production to his tunes, "Ain't gonna lie" almost sounded like something from a kids' show, and it's SUPER! To be found on Varese Sarabande's Bubblegum Hits, Vol. 1. "Tell me to my face" was a little different, and shoulda been a bigger hit as well. But absolutely NOTHING tops 98.6 BAR NONE. A well-deserved top 10 hit, it's one of the VERY few tunes I could hear on a morning, and be in a good mood! Every instrument on it's PERFECT. Wished he still toured, and would love to find a possible compilation CD, and look his name up on the web. Great songs by a SUPER, overlooked artist. R. Kelly-"My mind's tellin' me no-ooo!!!...mmm,mmm-mmm. But my body, my body's tellin' me ye-es!!!! I don't wanna hurt nobody, but there is something, I must confe-ess......oooo...to you..." One of the BEST opening lyrics of a 90's #1 tune! HATED the remix (Bump 'n grind) that played on one station. But truth be told, along with Boyz II Men, one (originally, anyway, up until 1999) of the finest R & B talents that brought a classic R & B groove to the hip-hop scene. Not only now one of the all-time biggest R & B artists, but he's now in the all-time POP top 100 artists as well. Outstanding producer, I might add. A few tunes, especially newer stuff, burns out on me. Robert Kelly from Chicago. My fave today, own 4 of his CD's. Beating Carole King? OH NO!!! Faves: BUMP 'N GRIND Heaven I need a hug (Seriously, this tune from last year was dissed so much and VERY unfairly. This was a VERY sympathetic tune that I could relate to right away. Remember, WE'RE ALL ONLY HUMAN!!!) I'm your angel (with Celine Dion) I believe I can fly (Like Macarena, NEVER got sick of this--In the FULL intro version, LOVE the oboe solo) Your body's callin' If I could turn back the hands of time (great overlooked ballad) Down low (Nobody has to know) She's got that vibe I can't sleep baby When a woman's fed up You remind me of something 6 me (as I call it) Fiesta I wish It seems like you're ready Slow dance Did you ever think Baby baby baby baby Dedicated Hey love (Can I have a word) Half on a baby Summer bunnies Home alone Feelin' on yo booty A woman's threat Ben E. King-Had more hits than one might think. The Drifters' best vocalist, and did fine on his own as well. Usually love oldies years after popularity, but I probably liked Stand by me LEAST when the song got top 40 airplay in the fall '86! Great stuff. Faves: Stand by me Supernatural thing Spanish Harlem Don't play that song Amor I (who have nothing) Seven letters First taste of love (original flip side of "Spanish Harlem") Do it in the name of love Carole King-A fine performer, tend to overlook her prolific songwriting career with Gerry Goffin. Tapestry's one masterpiece--more than half of my all-time faves are from it. Intriguing woman, I must say. Faves: It's too late Jazzman I feel the earth move Sweet seasons So far away It might as well rain until September (1962) One fine day (GREAT remake from 1980, she wrote it for the Crystals originally) Corazon Smackwater Jack Been to Canaan Nightingale You've got a friend Beautiful Hard rock cafe Where you lead Will you still love me tomorrow Believe in humanity Way over yonder Tapestry Our love is real Home again Natural woman All right, I'll hold off the requests for a while...

Howdy, Sat! Dave, great suggestions, especially Keith! Jewel: Very fine lady. Never gets too hard, and that's what I like most about today's music. I best like "Who will save your soul" and "Foolish games". R. Kelly: Not too bad, maybe a little risque, and pushes the envelope on personal issues. But I really like the Celine Dion duet, as well as "I believe I can fly". Keith: YAAAYYYY!!!!! I LOVE his "98.6" album-a real collector's item! Sounds quite a bit like me back in the days! In addition to the 3 hits (98.6...I just love, love, love this so much after 36 1/2 years!), also like "Teeny bopper song", "Mind if I hang around", and "You'll come running back to me". A most pleasing presence on the pop charts during the 1966-67 season. Ben E. King: Quite good. Again, the biggest hits were the best! Carole King: Fine, fine, just super fine. Singer and songwriter extraordinaire. Gave so many 60's hits like "Take good care of my baby" and "Will you love me tomorrow" such a wonderful feel. And her singing is so pleasing; everyone should have the "Tapestry" album. A great, no-nonsense live performer. BR

Boy, everyone loves R. Kelly! Ben E. had a fair amount, not at James Brown levels, most missing the top 20. Didja ever see Carole's concert on PBS with Slash as one of her guests? WTF was that?? What's next, Joni Mitchell with Blackie Lawless from WASP on her next album?? I did see that Carole King concert. I was wondering, too, what Slash was doing there. Joni Mitchell and Blackie Lawless. LOL!

OK, Sat. I'm gonna try to reply to your opinion posts of the past week over this weekend. Since I clicked on this one first, I'll start here. Jewel- Saw her sing on TV a couple of times, but not really familiar with her. R. Kelly- Not very familiar with his music. I do know "I'm Your Angel" from a Celine Dion ( ) cd that I burned for my wife for her birthday last year. Not impressed. Keith- I'm only familiar with 98.6 also. In fact I was surprised that he had other hits. I'm gonna check out Ain't Gonna Lie. 98.6 is a great song. Ben E. King- It's funny, because I find Stand By Me to be his worst song either with the Drifters OR solo. I didn't like it even BEFORE it started getting overplayed because of the movie. (BTW why did they even call that movie Stand By Me? It had nothing to do with the movie.) I like most of King's other work, however. I won't go into his Drifters stuff here, but my fave King solo is I (Who Have Nothing) - it's Top 100 for me. Also like Amor and Spanish Harlem. Carole King- Superstar!! I love It Might As well Rain Until September (even though the first time I heard it I thought it was Bobby Vee.). Other faves: It's Too Late, One Fine Day (excellent cover), So Far Away, Jazzman, Smackwater Jack.

[glow=red,2,300]Jewel-I saw her on the Today Show a while back and she was okay...Who Will Save Your Soul is my fave too. I don't like her enough to buy an album, though.
R. Kelly-same here. All I have heard of his is I Believe I Can Fly. I wasn't really into it either, and the song was pretty overplayed.
Keith-I like the song 98.6, and that's the only thing I have heard by him that I am aware of.
Ben E. King-I like Stand By Me and Spanish Harlem too. I have Stand By Me Downloaded but I don't listen to it that often.
Carole King-The only thing I have heard by her is I Feel the Earth Move...from what I have heard by her she has a greast voice though.[/glow]

[glow=green,2,300]Jewel- I really am diggin' her new hit "Intuition". It's the only song that doesn't really depress me. I mean, Jewel's a great artist, but it's about time she did something upbeat!
R. Kelly-Another artist that I like a current hit from...that being "Ignition". I think he's pretty talented, despite his legal problems lately.
Keith-The only hit I know is 98.6...it's pretty decent.
Ben E. King-Unfortunately, the only song I know by him is "Stand By Me"...and I remember it re-charting on the Top 40 charts in 1987.
Carole King-Anybody who can write a song for the babysitter must have talent in my books! (Little Eva's Loco-Motion). I think she was a genius, who created some of the 1970's biggest hits!

Jewel-BEAUTIFUL girl, but she needs to lighten up a little. I saw her interviewed on the Lilith Fair Behind The Music, and she was all bent out of shape about a Rolling Stone cover article on the Fair. It was titled, "Hail! Hail! The gang's all here" and she had a problem with THAT! She said "Was Soundgarden ever called a 'gang'?, was Pearl Jam ever called a GANG?" (No, but if they were, they probably wouldn't have a problem with it). It's a PUN, honey! Don't be so uptight! As for her music, I liked Who Will Save Your Soul, but she's just way TOO serious! R Kelly-Nah, I don't do twelve year-old girls ("D'oh!"). I can't think of ANY R&B since 1985 that I actually like! Keith-I like all three of his hits. "Ain't Gonna Lie" is FANTASTIC, it has that mid 60's "sound" that I love so much. "Tell It To My Face" kind of has a Middle Eastern vibe to it, and of course "98.6", which is one of the best pop records ever! They just don't make 'em like that anymore, and it's a shame! Ben E. King-Yeah, I'm sick of "Stand By Me" as well, as well as all it's cover versions (even John Lennon's!) "Spanish Harlem was great, but Aretha did it better. "Supernatural Thing" was probably my favorite, even a former Drifter had a Disco hit!! Carole King-EASILY my favorite today. ALL these female singer/songwriters today WISH they could be Carole King! But Carole had class, Carole wrote GREAT songs that didn't all sound the same. Carole is one of the greatest writers EVER (male or female). Geez, didn't know that about Jewel! LMAO about R Kelly! I feel the way about sould/R&B music since the mid 80s!

Jewel: I could sit in the front row at one of her concerts and never hear a note or a lyric because I'd just be having all kinds of daydreams about her. As for her music..eh, some of it is okay. She paid her dues and deserves her success...I mean, she was living in a Volkswagon bus for a while back in 1995. Favorites = Who Will Save Your Soul, You Were Meant For Me R. Kelly: If I have to hear "Ignition" on the radio one more time I'm going to scream. Okay, personally I think he's a creepy pedophile type and I've never liked his music much. Those are the most positive things I can say about him. Favorites = Bump -N- Grind, Sex Me Keith: I don't remember 98.6 but have heard of it. No favorites Ben E. King: Really enjoyed "Stand By Me" and the movie in which it is included (why can't I remember the name of it!?!). Puts his heart into the song Favorites = Stand By Me Carole King: Legendary songwriter along with her (future) husband Gerry Goffin. This team had a hand in numerous hits in the 1961-1963 period before the British Invasion pushed them back into relative obscurity. In 1971 she came back strong with the album "Tapestry" which was a favorite of my Mother's. One of my earliest memories is dancing around in my playpen to "I Feel the Earth Move" one night. I think she has a very nice voice though her music is quite dated now. Favorites: It's Too Late, I Feel the Earth Move Jewel-you DIRTY old man! 95-isn't that when she was a success? Ok, I didn't know whether you were joking about the movie title thing! LOL! Didn't all our mom's listen to Carol King? Her and Barry Manilow!

Jewel--I really like her music. She's different, and that's cool. Her new song is pretty good, but it's so...not Jewel. Faves- You Were Meant for Me, Hands, Standing Still R. Kelly--He's alright. I really like I Believe I Can Fly and I'm Your Angel, which he did with Celine Dion. It's a beautiful song. Carole King--I really love Carole King. She's got a wonderful voice, and her songwriting can be beaten by very few others. Wonderful artist. What is Jewel's new song like?
