Hey Adam:) Kingsmen - Can't have a party without cranking up Louie Louie (I have to say that I also love Paul Revere's version as well) . I have Money on the flipside of a reissue 45 of "Louie" . Faves , Louie Louie , Money , and yeah it's goofy but I love it anyway- I must because I have the 45 LOL - The Jolly Green Giant. Kinks - Love these guys - Read an article on them one time and the writer seemed to think that they invented heavy metal (?) well I don't know if I agree but the guitar riffs to All Day and All Of The Night and You Really Got Me are pretty fine. Ray is a great songwriter ( sometimes I think a little underated. Faves include: Waterloo Sunset , Dead End Street , Where Have All The Good Times Gone , The World Keeps Going 'Round(The Smithereens do a great cover of this BTW) , When I See That Little Girl Of Mine ,Till The End of The Day,Sunny Afternoon , Destroyer , Do It Again , Lola , Victoria , Set Me Free , Plastic Man and the two listed above. Kinleys - The name is familiar because I know that you've mentioned them a few times but I'm not sure if I've heard any of the tunes. I'll have to check them out. KISS - I am a HUGE KISS fan ( of course I know you already knew that LOL). Loved these guys in the 70s and love em' now) and apart from Alice they had the best stage show ever! Have all the 70's albums on vinyl and CD , and am working on completing the 80's. I have lots of memorabilia (magazines , posters , beltbuckles etc although not as much as I would like to have ;D There are many faves but I 'll keep them to a minimum LOL : Flaming Youth , Mr. Speed , Strutter , Rock and Roll all Night , Shock Me , Christine Sixteen , Into The Void , Lick It Up , I love it Loud , Rise To It , Charisma , Rock Bottom , Hard Luck Woman , Shout it Out Loud, See You in Your Dreams , Makin' Love and Detroit Rock City. Gladys Knight - I like a few tunes - very talanted - Faves: Midnight Train To Georgia , I Heard it Through The Grapevine and I've Got to Use My Imagination Kinks-I wouldn't say they "invented" it either, but their guitar riff was a stepping stone for it! Eddie Van Halen was a big fan obviously. I think you'd dig the Kinleys! Really, you like Kiss??  |

Kingsmen - Besides "Louie Louie" I didn't know a lot about this band until I went to the Experience Music Museum in Seattle and took the tour through the "local legends" section that highlights artists from the Pacific NW. Anyway, it inspired me to investigate their music further and I developed a taste for their sound. Gotta LOVE the cardigan sweaters they used to sport. Faves: Shake A Tail Feather, Don't You Just Know It, I Like It Like That, their version of Mustang Sally is also awesome. Kinks - One of my dad's faves so they were played a lot in the house. "Kinks Kronikles" was what I grew up listening to which contains a lot of b-sides so some of my faves aren't their most popular. I do love Lola though. Faves: Lola, Did You See His Name, Autumn Almanac, Death of A Clown, Dead End Street Kinleys - Not familiar. I get them mixed up with that brother/sister/cousin trio that play mandolins and such. Anyway, if they sound like the Everlys they can't be bad. KISS - My older cousins were soooo into them and introduced me to the music but I was almost too young to appreciate it. I loved the make-up and stage persona more than the songs at the time. I had my KISS dolls which were my prize possession. And who could forget the amazing **ahem** cinematic force of "KISS Meets The Phantom of The Park". Faves: Beth, Christine 16, I Was Made For Lovin' You, Shout It Out Loud Gladys Knight & The Pips - My fave today. LOVE THEM! Another childhood staple that I continue to listen to today. Faves: Neither One Of Us, I've Got To Use My Imagination, Midnight Train To GA, On and On The family group you are thinking of, isn't that like the Wilkinsons or something? The Kinleys are great though! My brother-in-law has Phantom of the Park on video! LOL! |

Kingsmen-Only know the three hits, SICK of "Louie, Louie", Can't recall their version of "Money" off the top of my head, and never cared for "Jolly Green Giant". Kinks-LOVE them!! I have the Rhino Greatest Hits (which covers up to 1966), The Kink Kronikles (Which covers "Face To Face" through "Lola Versus Powerman", and "Come Dancing With The Kinks" (which covers the late 70's through mid 80's). I also have (and was PSYCHED when I found this on CD) the Face To Face album from '66, which was GREAT from beginning to end! My fave period was the "Village Green Preservation Society" era, with songs like "Victoria" and "Dead End Street", though they had some great songs in their later years as well, such as "Low Budget", "Don't Forget To Dance", and "Do It Again"... It's been a LONG time since I've listened to these songs, so there's probably TONS I've forgotten... Kinleys-Heard the name, not the music.. Kiss-I was a huge fan in my teens, but I am SO burnt out with this band!!!!! If you'd asked me two years ago, I would have flat out said "I hate Kiss!!" However, I realize that I do like a lot of their early albums. Everything through "Creatures Of The Night" was decent, I even like some of the songs on "Music From The Elder". But I just got so sick of THEM!! I've known people who owned EVERY single piece of Kiss merchandise that ever came out, and spent THOUSANDS of dollars acquiring this stuff!! (as much as I love the Beach Boys, there IS a limit.. I couldn't imagine spending $1000 for a miniature sandbox with a piano sitting in it, or "Beach Boys action figures", etc..) Gladys Knight & The Pips-Motown totally gave them the shaft! Too bad, as they were one of the best acts on the label! But in the early 70's, all Motown really cared about was the Jackson 5. So they went to Buddah and had the biggest hit of their career! I love this group, throughout all their stages. I enjoyed their Behind The Music, and Gladys' daughter is HOT!!! (But, then again, so was Gladys!!) I have the Rhino Kinks collection, but I also found a good import that had Ape Man and Waterloo Sunset! Complimented the Rhino collection pretty well! I'd LOVE Beach Boys action figures! LOL! Maybe Dennis could come with a bonus Charles Manson action figure! LOL!! |

Let's see... Kingsmen-Great rockers! Super organ on all their hits. Never cared a bunch for their version of Money (Barrett Strong and the Flying Lizards are better), but LOVE "Jolly green Giant", and of course "Louie Louie"-should be in my CRAZY top 200. Also like the creepy "Death of an angel". Kinks-My fave today! LOVE their music in all eras! There's just something about this group-just don't know what it is. I guess I like Ray's voice a lot. Superior. Faves: You really got me (WOO HOO!!!!) Kinleys--I must honestly say in a sea of today's country artists, I cannot count them out. I've heard samples of tunes, and it's quite nice. May investigate further. Kiss--Never a huge fan, but I've enjoyed their music a lot since 1977. They really know how to rock with the best. That said, my parents thought how weird they were with their makeup and all-what do they know? I prefer their tunes to their looks, I must honestly say. Faves: Beth (both Peter and Eric versions) Rock and roll all nite (both studio and live versions) I was made for lovin' you (nothin' like disco!) I have the mp3s of Lola, You Really Got Me, and All Day and All of the Night. Kinleys--Haven't heard anything other than Somebody's Out There Watching, but that is one of my favorite songs. Kiss--Actually, I have never heard anything by them. I think they look cool though. Gladys Knight and the Pips--I always thought Gladys Knight had a good voice. I like Midnight Train, but I also like the song they did on the Forrest Gump soundtrack. I think it was I Gotta Use My Imagination.[/glow] Kinleys-isn't that a great song?? Such good lyrics! |

Kingsmen - Louie, Louie is on every party album, tape, and CD every made. Only song I know by them, but it's a good one. Kinks - A first rate British Invasion band that was still making hits into the 80s. Just great Rock & Rollers. IMO a first tier British invasion band. Third Eye Blind did a great job playing them on a recent episode of American Dreams. Favorites: Lola, Sunny Afternoon, Come Dancing, You Really Got Me, Well Respected Man, All Day & All of the Night, Dedicated Follower of Faishon. Kinsleys - ? Kiss - Make up & rock & roll, it will never mix. Did for these guys. Didn't like them at first, but over the years, I mellowed on them. Now my son is hooked on them. Go figure. Favorites: Rock & Roll All Night, Christine Sixteen, Hard Luck Woman Gladys Knight & the Pips - Never seemed to get the publicity of Marvin Gaye, Diana Ross, Stevie Wonder and some of the other soul & R&B artists. But 21 top 40s, 7 top 10s, and a #1 from 1967 - 1975 attest to their popularity. A top act and Gladys had such a wonderful voice. Favorites: Heard it Thru the Grapevine, Neither One of Us, Midnight Train to Georgia, I've Got to Use My Imagination, Best Thing that Ever Happened to Me. Didn't mean the second tier thing as a knock on the Kinks. They're great! My own personal top tier is the Beatles, Stones and the Who. (And I am not a huge nut about the latter two). And then my second tier is Kinks, Yardbirds, Animals.  |

Good lineup! Couple a Hall of Famers! Kingsmen-Of course, Louie, Louie is now legendary thanks to the version by these guys. But if you want to hear something great, check out their live rendition of Money. Awesome verion, like it better than the Beatles' take even! One of the earliest bands to have the garage sound. Fave-Money (Live) Kinks-Another example of a band I like beyond the big obvious Top 10 hits. Probably had the most recognizable guitar sound since Chuck, which is probably what secured their place in the Hall. Ray and Dave-what is it with brothers in rock? Tommy and John Fogerty, Phil and Don. Can't we all just get along?? (Take a lesson from the Wilsons and the Van Halens!) Anyway, a second tier British Invasion band. That's not a bad thing. Faves-Waterloo Sunset, Apeman, A Well Respected Man, Sunny Afternoon, Dedicated Follower of Fashion. Kinleys-one of my country faves. They have done only 2 albums so far, but they ladies have fantastic voices. So much so that won Best New Duo/Group in 1997 at the ACM's. I only recently got their first album and only know a few songs. Their second album sold me on them though. Beautiful harmonies. Actually, I think Jennifer, who DOESN'T sing lead has the stronger voice. What sucks now is they lost their label, and their website is never updated. I saw them at a local fest, and they did NOT phone in their performance just because it was a tiny event. Plus they are VERY nice looking. :PInfluenced by the Everlys. Hope to hear them again. Faves-I'm in (in my top 100 of all time), Somebody's Out There Watching, That's Gonna Mess You Up, She Ain't the Girl For You, I'm Me With You. Kiss-Growing up, the only thing I knew about Kiss was their image. Never heard any of their songs, not R-n-R All Nite, not Beth, nothing. Knew their non-makeup from MTV. I really enjoy both eras now that I know them. Legendary for their stage performances, and should probably go in the Hall for that and their longevity. But not before Alice. Faves-Hard Luck Woman, Shout it Out Loud, Calling Dr. Love, Detroit Rock City, Lick it Up. Gladys Knight & the Pips-Did the original Grapevine. Talented group of singers. In the Hall. I once read an interview which quoted someone (The lead singer?) as saying that this song wasn’t very well enunciated because the mic was directly over his head during the recording… Kinks- did one of the worst jobs of lip-syncing I have EVER seen! (This crime occurred when they sang “You Really Got me” on—ok, guess what show…) They sing another one of their hits on the show and the lip-syncing is a LITTLE improved. I think my favorite song of theirs is "In the Summertime" Kinleys-“one of my country faves” I, too, am surprised they haven’t had more success. The only song I can think of right now is “…Watching” (AKA the “Touched by an Angel” song) ; but that’s ok, because it’s a favorite… Kiss-People at in my high school went crazy when they came to town.
