Another Hall of Famer today! Alison Krauss & Union Station-Here is an artist I used to make fun of because she sings so quietly! But I always respected her talent as a violinist. (Or is that fiddle, since she is Bluegrass? ) Anyway, I know she is held in high regard in the country industry because of her faithfulness to the Bluegrass genre. Even won a Female Vocalist of the Year on one of the award shows. Anyway, after making fun of her, I ended up liking most of her hits; they grew on me. The funny thing about her quiest voice is, when she talks, her voice is pretty deep, almost masculine! LOL! Faves-Maybe, The Lucky One, Forget About it, Sittin' in the Window of My Room, Let Me Touch You For Awhile. Lenny Kravitz-With the Black Crowes, brought back straight forward ROCK to the music industry. Not metal, not grunge, just ROCK. Comparable to Jimi, being a black singer in the white dominated hard rock world. Cool voice, great sound. I was so happy when he had a Greatest Hits! Had something good on each album. One of the better artists of the past 15 years. Faves-Rock and Roll is Dead (GREAT commentary on the state of the business at the time), Fly Away, Are You Gonna Go My Way, It Ain't Over ('Til it's Over), Let Love Rule. Patti Labelle/Labelle-thought I would just group em together. Ok, Lady Marmalade is AWESOME. Great 70s tune, and Ozzy had fun trying to sing it. Solo, I'll pass. Wasn't New Attitude on health club commericals? Didn't like the Michael McDonald duet either. Ok, I guess, but she is no Aretha, Gladys, or Diana. Fave-Lady Marmalade. Cyndi Lauper-Funny how she, not Madonna, won Best New Artist in 84! But then again, her first album was huge at the time. Second album did ok, but career was spotty after that. Voice is kindof annoying to me, but I remember liking certain songs at the time. She was tied in with wrestling, so that was cool with my crowd. LOL Faves-All Through the Night, Change of Heart, Time After Time. Led Zeppelin-To pigeon hole these guys as "heavy metal" is SO unfair to them. To me, they are worlds away from Black Sabbath. Sabbath was all about getting away from the hippie mentality. Zeppelin embraced it. Check out III. In the course of one album, they were folk, funk, straight rock, prog rock, reggae, and yes, metal. And that was just Houses of the Holy! LOL!You know, the Beatles were always my number one, but for a time period, from 88-91 especially, based on how much I listen, collected and followed them, they were my number one band. It was very fun learning their songs on classic rock radio, going and buying the used vinyl and learning more songs. Three very talented musicians, and almost EVERY singer in the 80s (of the hard rock genre) wanted a voice and hair like Plant. Faves-SO MANY!! Achillies Last Stand, Carouselambra, Livin' Lovin' Maid (She's Just a Woman), Out on the Tiles, Battle of Evermore, Over the Hills and Far Away, The Girl I Love She Got Long Black Wavy Hair, In My Time of Dying, South Bound Suarez, We're Gonna Groove. Just a sampling. And you?

Howdy, Sat! Allison Krauss--she's not too bad. Don't recall any specific titles. Lenny Kravitz--the 90's rock chameleon. I like his softer tunes considerably more. Easily his best is "It ain't over till it's over". Patti LaBelle--Not a bad singer! Like everything I've heard, and nothing beats "Lady Marmalade". Cyndi Lauper--YAAAYYY!!! The best one today. Image aside, she has one of the prettier ballad voices since 1980. Even her upbeat hits really cruise! Like all of them. Led Zeppelin--When I first heard them, I didn't know what to make of them. I thought Deep Purple's "Hush" was heavy enough, but this was extreme! Not crazy over any tune, but "Dyer maker" and "Fool in the rain" are passable. BR

Alison Krauss & Union Station: No clue
Lenny Kravitz: I've never really liked his style of music though I do agree that he's one of the few true rockers still out there making new music. Favorites = It's Not Over Until It's Over, Are You Gonna Go My Way
Patti Labelle: Another artist that doesn't do much for me. Her voice grates on my nerves. Actually her bizarre stage costumes with Labelle and her strange hairstyles as a soloist are more memorable to me than her music. Survey says....meh! Favorites = Lady Marmalade
Cyndi Lauper: She's so unusual...but I like it! Definitely a unique voice and stage presence. I would never vote her into the Hall of Fame, don't get me wrong. The music is fun, a little silly at times but there's nothing wrong with that. She infused a lot of spunk into the lackluster mid-80's radio formats. Has had her signature song played at every bachelorette party every held since 1984 I imagine. Favorites = Girls Just Wanna Have Fun (Oh shut up! It's a fun song), Time After Time, All Through the Night, True Colors, She Bop
Led Zeppelin: Yeahhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!! Now we're talkin'! Legendary rock band who defined the album-oriented rock format that blossomed in the 1970's. This was a fantastic ensemble of talent: Plant, Page, Bonham, Jones. Yes, Stairway to Heaven is the most overplayed and overrated track in history..please give that one a rest. Otherwise there isn't much I don't like by these guys. Great for house parties, late night drives or just chilling out in the back yard with a cold, frosty beverage and a Frisbee. Favorites = Whole Lotta Love, Communication Breakdown, When the Levee Breaks, Dyer Maker, The Immigrant Song, Kashmir, Misty Mountain Hop, Black Dog, Fool in the Rain, All of My Love

Darn! I just learned you can't send PM's in the middle of creating a post! Well, in short, my only great fave there in Led Zeppelin.
Allison Krauss-especially DETEST her version of "Baby now that I found you"
Lenny Kravitz-I only like "It ain't over 'til it's over".
Patti LaBelle-Overworks her voice too much. I only like I sold my heart to the junkman, Lady Marmalade, and Stir it Up.
Cyndi Lauper-Love her earlier upbeat stuff, sick of hearing her lighter stuff, especially her 2 #1's. "Girls/Fun" was definitely her best.
Led Zeppelin-YAY! A class act of rock! RIP Bonzo. Faves: Stairway to heaven Whole lotta love D'yer mak'er Black dog Immigrant song Fool in the rain Over the hills and far away Kashmir Rock and roll Ramble on Communication breakdown Good times, bad times Misty mountain hop All of my love Trampled under foot Dazed and confused The crunge The Battle of Evermore

Alison Krauss and Union Station-She does sing quietly doesn't she?! She has a pleasant voice though, and you're right about that fiddle-playing. Faves-When You Say Nothing At All, Down to the River to Pray
Lenny Kravitz-He just cracks me up. There's something about him that I find very amusing. I think it's the fact that he used to be married to Lisa Bonet. But those dreads he had rocked! Faves-Fly Away, It Ain't Over (Til It's Over)
Patti Labelle-She's fair, but like you said-she doesn't compare to the others.
Cyndi Lauper-She's so unique, and I love that. I love her first album, and even though her voice is slightly annoying, I like it. Go figure. Faves-Girls Just Wanna Have Fun, Time After Time

Alison Krauss & Union Station- Don't know her/them Lenny Kravitz- not a fan Patti Labelle/Labelle- If you're gonna group 'em you should add the Blue Belles also. Decent soul singer. Favorite is Lady Marmalade. Also like the MacDonald Duet (On My Own) and I Sold My Heart to the Junkman is OK also (although it's not clear to me if Patti really sang on this one.) Cyndi Lauper- Not bad for a weirdo. Several very good songs: My fave is She Bop (a good ol' rock and roll song ) also like:Time After Time, True Colors, Girls Just Want to Have Fun, All Through the Night. I Drove All night is two orders of magnitude worse than Roy's version, but seventeen orders of magnitude better than Celine's. Led Zeppelin- Back in the Early '70s I listened to Stairway to Heaven probably a thousand times, sometimes under the influence of something-or-other I knew the song frontwards, backwards, inside out, held discourses on its true meaning both real and imagined, and dissected every part of it. I still love that song. It's in my all time top 10. I even have a rare copy of the 45. (released only as a promo) Anything else Led Zep did was secondary. But I do like Whole Lotta Love, Black Dog, and The Immigrant Song.

Alison Krause and Union Station - I've seen her on a few different TV shows (David Letterman and Austin City Limits. She very good and I know that she's very well respected in the country / bluegrass community. Unfortunately I'm not familiar with any specific songs.
Lenny Kravitz - Thank god for Lenny (and the Crowes) bringing back straight ahead Rock. I have three of his CD's in my collection . I like many of his songs( his cover of American Woman is alright but I prefer the original) . The critics have - and unfairly so - dumped on him for sounding to much like Jimi , being "stuck in the 70's"and so on( since when is that a bad thing?) Faves include : It Ain't Over ('Till It's Over) , Mr.Cab Driver , Are You Gonna Go My Way , Dig In , Always On The Run , Tunnelvision , Magdalene , Again , Believe and Let love Rule
Patti Labelle / Labelle - I've always loved Lady Marmalade but I've never cared for her solo stuff - just not my style of music. Faves : Lady Marmalade
Cyndi Lauper - She sure made a big splash on MTV / Muchmusic with Girls Just Want To Have Fun - It was everywhere! She was very upbeat . My #1 favorite tune has always been Time After Time - I love everything about it . Faves: Time After Time , Money Changes Everything and True Colors .
Led Zeppelin - I'm really burn't out on them thanks to my classic rock station playing them multiple times a day, that's really to bad because they did have some great songs. I really respect John Paul , Jimmy and especially Bonzo as musicians. And you are correct they included many different genres of music into their sound. Faves: Houses of The Holy , Dancing Days , Boogie With Stu , Hey Hey What Can I Do , Good Times , Bad Times , The Immigrant Song and Going To California

Alison Krauss & Union Station-All I've ever heard is her cover of "Baby Now That I've Found You". I didn't like it. Lenny Kravitz-He's cool, I wish more current artists would make good rock like this! Patti LaBelle-"Lady Marmalade" got killed for me with that recent cover version. It's an OK song, But I'd rather hear other R&B records of the era. Cyndi Lauper-I own the She's So Unusual CD for when I DJ. I've always liked "Time After Time", "She Bop", and "Money Changes Everything". But I am SO sick of "Girls Just Want To Have Fun", It always seemed like a song the guys would have to "sit out". Hey, guys want to have fun, too!! (usually with the girls ) (Maybe I'll write a song about that!!) Led Zeppelin- One of the all time greats! Since I like them so much, I'll give them an album-by-album synopsis! I-Great introduction to the band. I believe they were still calling themselves the New Yardbirds when they were recording it (imagine if they kept THAT name!). I first owned this on cassette, and the two sides were in reverse order (blasphemy!), so I'm scarred for life by this! Faves-You're Time Is Gonna Come, Black Mountain Side, Communication Breakdown, Good Times Bad Times, You Shook Me II-I was born knowing this album, both my brother and sister owned it. Can't hear the album without picturing the red, white and green Atlantic label spinning. I used to think that was the WHOLE band on the cover (their sound was big enough to be that many guys!) Faves-All of them, but I'm partial to "Ramble On" and like "Thank You" the least! III-You either love this album or you hate it, and I LOVE IT!! They showed their diversity and proved they didn't need to be heavily amplified to sound larger than life! Faves-Tangerine, That's The Way, Gallow's Pole, Out On The Tiles, Immigrant Song, Friends. Runes (IV)-I like it but am SO SICK of "Stairway", and I'm getting there with "Black Dog" and "Rock n' Roll". Faves-The Battle Of Evermore, Four Sticks (named because of Bonzo playing the drums with four sticks on this track), When The Levee Breaks. Houses Of The Holy-I like this better than Runes, but not as much as the first three. Still, a solid effort showing more depth to their style. Faves-No Quarter, The Rain Song, Over THe Hills And Far Away, The Song Remains The Same. Physical Graffiti-Could this have been a better single album? I don't know, WHAT could they have cut from it? This album is phenominal, not a note wasted! Faves-Ten Years Gone, The Rover, Houses Of The Holy, The Wanton Song, Trampled Underfoot, In The Light. Presence-Another album you either love or hate. Many hate it, but I LOVE it, in fact, it ties with III for my favorite Zeppelin album! The band was going through a tough time when they were recording it. Plant had been in a severe accident and recorded the vocals from a wheelchair! Also, his son had died sometime around this period. The band didn't tour for this album, and only two of the cuts were ever performed live (and not very often!) Faves-Achilles Last Stand (Favorite Zeppelin song PERIOD!), Candy Store Rock, Royal Orleans, Nobody's Fault But Mine. In Through The Out Door-OK, I've played this album dozens of times and I CAN'T get into it! To me, it's their weakest, and I know some will disagree, but I like the first 3 solo Robert Plant albums better than In Through The Out Door. Not a good album to end their career with. Fave-Carouselambra (by default) Coda-Tying up the loose ends, actually has some very good material here. I like this one better than "Out Door". Faves-Poor Tom, Wearing And Tearing, Walter's Walk, Ozone Baby, We're Gonna Groove.

Allison Krauss & Union Station - I've heard some of her songs, but can't recall any specific titles. Although I've never really been a fan of bluegrass, I think I'd enjoy her music.
Lenny Kravitz - I'm only familiar with a few of his songs. 'Fly Away' has been somewhat overplayed, but I absolutely LOVE 'It Ain't Over Til It's Over'! Great retro 70's sound!
Patti LaBelle/LaBelle - Good vocalist, but I agree, not quite in the same tier as the other artists you mentioned. Favorites: Lady Marmalade, New Attitude.
Cyndi Lauper - In retrospect, it does seem surprising that she edged out Madonna for Best New Artist. She's definitely at her best on the ballads. Favorites: Time After Time, What's Going On, Change of Heart.
Led Zeppelin - This is a band I was kind of indifferent to until recently, when I started hearing more of their music. Their songs often sound years ahead of their time. Unquestionably, they are classic rock legends, and have influenced scores of artists. Favorites: All My Love, Fool in the Rain, Trampled Under Foot, D'yer Maker, Going to California.

Alison Krauss et al - I admire admire her devotion to her bluegrass roots but I don't know any of their tunes at all. I just know her name and what she looks like.
Lenny Kravitz - he runs hot and cold for me. I like some of his stuff and then they're other tunes I HATE like "Fly Away" which makes me want to poke hot pointy things in my ears. I'd definitely say he's talented though and he seems like a cool person to know. Faves: It Ain't Over Til It's Over, Are You Gonna Go My Way, Heaven Help
Patti Labelle/Labelle - I own a couple of the old Labelle albums which are good. DJ Dave knows this - I'm probably one of the only people that loves the duet she did with Michael McDonald "On My Own" (I even like the cheesy video with the two of them in those tragic coats walking on bridges). I don't like her other solo stuff from the 80s however. Faves: On My Own, Going Down Makes Me Shiver, Isn't It A Shame, Lady Marmalade
Cyndi Lauper - I don't think she gets the respect she deserves. She's a really great songwriter. I love listening to her greatest hits cd. Faves: Time After Time, All Through The Night, I Drove All Night, I Don't Want To Be Your Friend
Led Zeppelin - I don't dislike them like I do many of the rock legends from the same era (Doors, Floyd etc.) but I have to say I've never really been into Zeppelin either. I like a few songs though. Faves: Kashmir, Tangerine, Ramble On

*Rollin' up my sleeves* Your lists, once again, are going to keep me pretty busy, Sat. *lol*
Allison Krauss and Union Station - I don't have any favorites, but I love her voice!
Lenny Kravitz - His style, his voice, the way he movies... big fan here. Faves: It Ain't Over (Til It's Over), Are You Gonna Go My Way, Fly Away
Patti LaBelle/ LaBelle - Not really into her, either. Still, Lady Marmalade rocks.
Cyndi Lauper - I remember singing along to "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun" with my best friends when it came out, and we loved it! She was so funky and unique. Anyway, faves: Girls Just Wanna Have Fun, True Colors, Time After Time
Led Zepplin - How can you go wrong with these guys? They ROCK! Faves: The Girl I Love She Got Long Wavy Hair, All Of My Love, Fool In The Rain
