Alison Krauss & Union Station- Don't know her/them Lenny Kravitz- not a fan Patti Labelle/Labelle- If you're gonna group 'em you should add the Blue Belles also. Decent soul singer. Favorite is Lady Marmalade. Also like the MacDonald Duet (On My Own) and I Sold My Heart to the Junkman is OK also (although it's not clear to me if Patti really sang on this one.) Cyndi Lauper- Not bad for a weirdo. Several very good songs: My fave is She Bop (a good ol' rock and roll song ) also like:Time After Time, True Colors, Girls Just Want to Have Fun, All Through the Night. I Drove All night is two orders of magnitude worse than Roy's version, but seventeen orders of magnitude better than Celine's. Led Zeppelin- Back in the Early '70s I listened to Stairway to Heaven probably a thousand times, sometimes under the influence of something-or-other I knew the song frontwards, backwards, inside out, held discourses on its true meaning both real and imagined, and dissected every part of it. I still love that song. It's in my all time top 10. I even have a rare copy of the 45. (released only as a promo) Anything else Led Zep did was secondary. But I do like Whole Lotta Love, Black Dog, and The Immigrant Song. I'm sorry about the Blue Belles. Can you ever forgive me? Under the influence! H2, such a bad example you are setting!!

Allison Krauss/Union Station--You and I have had a few discussions about Ms. Krauss, Sat. As you know, I'm not a fan. There's just something about her that rubs me the wrong way, for some reason. I don't know if it's because she sings SO quietly that I have to strain to hear what she's singing, or if it's the breathiness in her voice whenever she does sing loud enough for me to hear, or what. She did have a song or two on the "O Brother Where Art Thou" soundtrack that wasn't bad. Otherwise, I'm just not thrilled with her. Lenny Kravitz--Love this guy. He rocks! And he ain't bad to look at either. Faves: Everything you mentioned. Patti Labelle--Another in the genre of overwrought singers. Patti--why can't you just sing the song? Do we have to have 20 minutes of "glory notes"? Have you ever heard her version of "Somewhere Over the Rainbow"? Oh god, make it stop! It's awful! And it goes on and on and on and on...And that duet with Michael McDonald--more torture! Cyndi Lauper--Now we're talking about somebody who doesn't have to overdo it to get her point across. Cyndi has a great voice--very powerful, and yet can reign it in when she has to. Ever heard the song "Sally's Pigeons"? The lyrics are haunting, and Cyndi does a great job of "telling the story". One of my faves by her. Other faves: That's What I Think, Who Let in the Rain, True Colors, She Bop, Time After Time, Hole in My Heart (All the Way to China), Girls Just Want to Have Fun (Reggae version is cool, too!) I'm a big fan. Can ya tell? Led Zeppelin--I always say I'm not a fan, but...the local classic rock station plays a block of Zeppelin songs every night at 6:30--they've dubbed it "Stairway to Seven". If I happen to have the radio on then, I will listen to the songs, and I usually like everything they play by them. So I guess I'm more of a fan of theirs than I think I am. ;D

Allison Krauss - ?
Lenny Kravitz - A singer I've heard on the radio, a singer who I like to listen to on the radio, but truth be told, except for his American Woman cover, couldn't tell you the titles of his songs. It's more not paying attention then not liking Lenny. His music is great and I gues I'll have to find some of his CDs at the used CD joint and listen more carefully next time. It worked for Collective Soul & Foo Fighters (got the CDs & liked the music) so maybe it'll work for Lenny. Got to keep up with the times.
Patti Labelle/Labelle - Patti's great in small doses. Wonderful voice, but you're right, no Aretha. I did like the duet with Michael McDonald though. Pretty good song. Favorites: Lady Marmalade, On My Own.
Cyndi Lauper - Cyndi was fun. Cyndi made one great album, with three or four good songs on it, and that was it. Sorry, the voice just got to me after awhile, but Cyndi was still fun to listen. Favorites: Girls Just Want to Have Fun, Time After Time, All Through the Night, & True Colors
Led Zep - Legends. Rank as my #8 favorite group ever. Have so many albums, cassettes, and CDs by these guys. Led Zep is one of the groups whose music knows no generation boundaries. My son had a senior picture pose in a Led Zep shirt and Led Zep albums scattered around him. My daughter attended a music camp last summer and her conductor arranged an orchestral version of Kashmir, complete with 4 violin solos that was truly awesome. Favorites: Kashmir, Battle of Evermore, Dazed and Confused, Communcation Breakdown, Whole Lotta Love, Blackdog, Immigrant Song, Good Times Bad Times, Ramble On, Rock & Roll, Misty Mountain Hop, (and yes) Stairway to Heaven, among others.

Alison Krause and Union Station - I've seen her on a few different TV shows (David Letterman and Austin City Limits. She very good and I know that she's very well respected in the country / bluegrass community. Unfortunately I'm not familiar with any specific songs. Lenny Kravitz - Thank god for Lenny (and the Crowes) bringing back straight ahead Rock. I have three of his CD's in my collection . I like many of his songs( his cover of American Woman is alright but I prefer the original) . The critics have - and unfairly so - dumped on him for sounding to much like Jimi , being "stuck in the 70's"and so on( since when is that a bad thing?) Faves include : It Ain't Over ('Till It's Over) , Mr.Cab Driver , Are You Gonna Go My Way , Dig In , Always On The Run , Tunnelvision , Magdalene , Again , Believe and Let love Rule Patti Labelle / Labelle - I've always loved Lady Marmalade but I've never cared for her solo stuff - just not my style of music. Faves : Lady Marmalade Cyndi Lauper - She sure made a big splash on MTV / Muchmusic with Girls Just Want To Have Fun - It was everywhere! She was very upbeat . My #1 favorite tune has always been Time After Time - I love everything about it . Faves: Time After Time , Money Changes Everything and True Colors . Led Zeppelin - I'm really burn't out on them thanks to my classic rock station playing them multiple times a day, that's really to bad because they did have some great songs. I really respect John Paul , Jimmy and especially Bonzo as musicians. And you are correct they included many different genres of music into their sound. Faves: Houses of The Holy , Dancing Days , Boogie With Stu , Hey Hey What Can I Do , Good Times , Bad Times , The Immigrant Song and Going To California Damn, when was she on Letterman?? I know, what's wrong with sounding like when music was GOOD? They are all great musicians-I think JPJ is underrated.

Alison Krauss & Union Station-All I've ever heard is her cover of "Baby Now That I've Found You". I didn't like it. Lenny Kravitz-He's cool, I wish more current artists would make good rock like this! Patti LaBelle-"Lady Marmalade" got killed for me with that recent cover version. It's an OK song, But I'd rather hear other R&B records of the era. Cyndi Lauper-I own the She's So Unusual CD for when I DJ. I've always liked "Time After Time", "She Bop", and "Money Changes Everything". But I am SO sick of "Girls Just Want To Have Fun", It always seemed like a song the guys would have to "sit out". Hey, guys want to have fun, too!! (usually with the girls ) (Maybe I'll write a song about that!!) Led Zeppelin- One of the all time greats! Since I like them so much, I'll give them an album-by-album synopsis! I-Great introduction to the band. I believe they were still calling themselves the New Yardbirds when they were recording it (imagine if they kept THAT name!). I first owned this on cassette, and the two sides were in reverse order (blasphemy!), so I'm scarred for life by this! Faves-You're Time Is Gonna Come, Black Mountain Side, Communication Breakdown, Good Times Bad Times, You Shook Me II-I was born knowing this album, both my brother and sister owned it. Can't hear the album without picturing the red, white and green Atlantic label spinning. I used to think that was the WHOLE band on the cover (their sound was big enough to be that many guys!) Faves-All of them, but I'm partial to "Ramble On" and like "Thank You" the least! III-You either love this album or you hate it, and I LOVE IT!! They showed their diversity and proved they didn't need to be heavily amplified to sound larger than life! Faves-Tangerine, That's The Way, Gallow's Pole, Out On The Tiles, Immigrant Song, Friends. Runes (IV)-I like it but am SO SICK of "Stairway", and I'm getting there with "Black Dog" and "Rock n' Roll". Faves-The Battle Of Evermore, Four Sticks (named because of Bonzo playing the drums with four sticks on this track), When The Levee Breaks. Houses Of The Holy-I like this better than Runes, but not as much as the first three. Still, a solid effort showing more depth to their style. Faves-No Quarter, The Rain Song, Over THe Hills And Far Away, The Song Remains The Same. Physical Graffiti-Could this have been a better single album? I don't know, WHAT could they have cut from it? This album is phenominal, not a note wasted! Faves-Ten Years Gone, The Rover, Houses Of The Holy, The Wanton Song, Trampled Underfoot, In The Light. Presence-Another album you either love or hate. Many hate it, but I LOVE it, in fact, it ties with III for my favorite Zeppelin album! The band was going through a tough time when they were recording it. Plant had been in a severe accident and recorded the vocals from a wheelchair! Also, his son had died sometime around this period. The band didn't tour for this album, and only two of the cuts were ever performed live (and not very often!) Faves-Achilles Last Stand (Favorite Zeppelin song PERIOD!), Candy Store Rock, Royal Orleans, Nobody's Fault But Mine. In Through The Out Door-OK, I've played this album dozens of times and I CAN'T get into it! To me, it's their weakest, and I know some will disagree, but I like the first 3 solo Robert Plant albums better than In Through The Out Door. Not a good album to end their career with. Fave-Carouselambra (by default) Coda-Tying up the loose ends, actually has some very good material here. I like this one better than "Out Door". Faves-Poor Tom, Wearing And Tearing, Walter's Walk, Ozone Baby, We're Gonna Groove. Lemme know if you need help writing that song. III-I LOVE it! Physical Graffitti-I agree, what could you cut?? Honestly, my least faves are the A & B sides of the single-Trampled Underfoot/Black Country Woman. Probably cuz I burned em out when I got the album. (Played the HELL out of this album back then!) Presence-Again, love it. I probably love this and III so much because so LITTLE is played on the radio from them. The only one that gets REGULAR play around here is the Immigrant Song. In Through the Out Door-NOOOOOO!!!!! I wasn hoping you WEREN'T like my buddy who calls this a weak album!! LOL! Coda-There are lots of good buts here!

Allison Krauss & Union Station - I've heard some of her songs, but can't recall any specific titles. Although I've never really been a fan of bluegrass, I think I'd enjoy her music. Lenny Kravitz - I'm only familiar with a few of his songs. 'Fly Away' has been somewhat overplayed, but I absolutely LOVE 'It Ain't Over Til It's Over'! Great retro 70's sound! Patti LaBelle/LaBelle - Good vocalist, but I agree, not quite in the same tier as the other artists you mentioned. Favorites: Lady Marmalade, New Attitude. Cyndi Lauper - In retrospect, it does seem surprising that she edged out Madonna for Best New Artist. She's definitely at her best on the ballads. Favorites: Time After Time, What's Going On, Change of Heart. Led Zeppelin - This is a band I was kind of indifferent to until recently, when I started hearing more of their music. Their songs often sound years ahead of their time. Unquestionably, they are classic rock legends, and have influenced scores of artists. Favorites: All My Love, Fool in the Rain, Trampled Under Foot, D'yer Maker, Going to California. Alison is good "kicking back" music. Fool in the Rain is a great song-would've included it if my list were longer!

Alison Krauss et al - I admire admire her devotion to her bluegrass roots but I don't know any of their tunes at all. I just know her name and what she looks like. Lenny Kravitz - he runs hot and cold for me. I like some of his stuff and then they're other tunes I HATE like "Fly Away" which makes me want to poke hot pointy things in my ears. I'd definitely say he's talented though and he seems like a cool person to know. Faves: It Ain't Over Til It's Over, Are You Gonna Go My Way, Heaven Help Patti Labelle/Labelle - I own a couple of the old Labelle albums which are good. DJ Dave knows this - I'm probably one of the only people that loves the duet she did with Michael McDonald "On My Own" (I even like the cheesy video with the two of them in those tragic coats walking on bridges). I don't like her other solo stuff from the 80s however. Faves: On My Own, Going Down Makes Me Shiver, Isn't It A Shame, Lady Marmalade Cyndi Lauper - I don't think she gets the respect she deserves. She's a really great songwriter. I love listening to her greatest hits cd. Faves: Time After Time, All Through The Night, I Drove All Night, I Don't Want To Be Your Friend Led Zeppelin - I don't dislike them like I do many of the rock legends from the same era (Doors, Floyd etc.) but I have to say I've never really been into Zeppelin either. I like a few songs though. Faves: Kashmir, Tangerine, Ramble On You must really "admire" her! Like double the amount! "Hot pointy things"! OUCH!! Zeppelin-but they're better than Boston, right?

*Rollin' up my sleeves* Your lists, once again, are going to keep me pretty busy, Sat. *lol* Allison Krauss and Union Station - I don't have any favorites, but I love her voice! Lenny Kravitz - His style, his voice, the way he movies... big fan here. Faves: It Ain't Over (Til It's Over), Are You Gonna Go My Way, Fly Away Patti LaBelle/ LaBelle - Not really into her, either. Still, Lady Marmalade rocks. Cyndi Lauper - I remember singing along to "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun" with my best friends when it came out, and we loved it! She was so funky and unique. Anyway, faves: Girls Just Wanna Have Fun, True Colors, Time After Time Led Zepplin - How can you go wrong with these guys? They ROCK! Faves: The Girl I Love She Got Long Wavy Hair, All Of My Love, Fool In The Rain Hey, another fan of The Girl I Love.....I thought I was the only one who liked it! Welcome back Kat!!

I guess I didn't because they had alternative/punk influences along with the classic rock. Whereas the Crowes are straight from the Stones/Faves/Humble Pie and Lenny from Jimi, among others. I saw on my other post, you bought a lot of Greatest Hits lately. Pick up Lenny's-it covers the goods. BTW-which Collective Soul and Foo Fighters discs did you get? Cool about your kids and Zeppelin!

Collective Soul - Hints, Allegations, & Things Left Unsaid Foo Fighters - There is Nothing Left to Lose Oh man, if you liked that Collective Soul disc, you're gonna LOVE the rest! That is actually my least fave. May I recommend your next one? Disciplined Breakdown. SUCH a great album! And the first five songs on that Foos album are killer!
