Major Lance - Not familiar in the least Brenda Lee - Didn't know she was is in the Country Hall of Fame too. Powerful voice. I never liked "I'm Sorry" but she's got other tracks that I really dig. Faves: I Want To Be Wanted, Everybody Loves Me But You, Someday (You'll Want Me To Want You) Peggy Lee - Stellar voice. I was always biased towards her because she looked like my grandma. Anyway, an awesome talent. Faves: Big Spender, Why Don't You Do Right?, It's A Good Day, Fever John Lennon - I like his solo stuff from the later part of his career, which makes me sadder that he was taken from us. Faves: Woman, Watching The Wheels, I'm Losing You Julian Lennon - Ever watch his VH1 Behind The Music? He was TOTALLY damaged as a child emotionally. I can't imagine that much pressure...anyway I like his voice. Faves: You're The One, Too Late For Goodbyes, Valotte, Say You're Wrong. Yep, she was in the Country Hall first, actually! I remember Julian had one of the sadder BTM's!

Major Lance: Can't recall anything that he does Brenda Lee: She was a tiny girl with a big voice. Not a voice I was particularly fond of...then she became a country star so I haven't heard any of her "adult" hits. Peggy Lee: (sigh) Can't recall anything that she does. This is getting to be depressing.... John Lennon: Brilliant, very eccentric musical genius. Did his very best to alienate fans over the years and yet still retains a huge following 23 years after his tragic murder. Was never shy about giving his opinion or taking a stand and THAT I can respect, even if I disagree with his views on many issues. Marvelous songwriter, fairly good singer but not quite on Paul's level. I have a hard time disassociating him from that talentless shrew that he married. By far my favorite today. Of course I'd rank Vanilla Ice, Napoleon XIV and Leonard Nimoy over these other four also Favorites = (Just Like) Starting Over, Woman, Watching the Wheels, No. 9 Dream Julian Lennon: In my opinion he did not inherit the talent of his father. Decent piano player...mediocre singer. Didn't impress me and apparantly didn't impress the general public too much either. He did have a nice head of hair though but I'm just saying that because I'm losing mine, LOL. OOOO, Leonard Nimoy over Julian??

Looks great! Major Lance-without the genius of the Impressions' Curtis Mayfield, this guy woulda probably gone nowhere. But what a SOLID 5 top 40 hits! "Um um" had a rather unique sound of its own, but the others sounded like rip-offs of "Monkey Time", but who cares? Only heard "Hey little girl" a couple of times, but LOVED it right away (back in '83). THEN I heard "Monkey Time" and first thought that tune came later (until I got my first big Whitman book in '85). But LOVE that R & B/pop horn sound! And I was ECSTATIC when I FINALLY got "Um um" on CD last December (on a Sony 60's compilation). RIP. Faves: Um um um um um um ("Walkin' thru the park..." LOVE the maracas!) The monkey time Hey little girl The matador Rhythm Brenda Lee--beautiful voice. Love most of her hits, but her ballads kinda got repetitive. Still a force to be reckoned with for the 20th century singers. Super. Faves: Rockin' around the Chistmas tree Sweet nothin's All alone am I (LOVE the harpsichord) Break it to me gently I'm sorry That's all you gotta do Dum dum Coming on strong Emotions I want to be wanted (I love most of the rock era #1's, but this one's lower than most) Fool #1 Losing you (and others...) Peggy Lee--HUBBA HUBBA!!! My fave today! The last 10 years or so, I've grown to IDOLIZE this lady--sad of her wheelchair-boundness and death during that time-eternal RIP. Very sultry, sometimes playful voice, I've tended to consider her more "pop" than "jazz". One of the 20th century's best--PERIOD. Faves: Manana (WOOO HOOOOO!!!!!!!) ("If someone doesn't fix it, I'll be soaking to my skin...") Why don't you do right (Benny Goodman's orchestra) Lover Golden earrings Fever (had the definitive version, but Little Willie John had the original in '56. Peggy made this her own--especially when she sang about Romeo/Juliet & Pocahontas & John Smith; not in any other version I know) Waitin' for the train to come in Is that all there is I get ideas Riders in the sky Alright, okay, you win Caramba! It's the samba Mr. Wonderful I don't know enough about you Bali hai I'm a woman and many others, especially her performing (voicing) in "Lady and the Tramp" "Peg" is SOOOOOO hot! ;D John Lennon--Was sad over his death, indeed. But courtesy of recent world events, my liking for him has SHOT up--now I like him more than George for individual Beatles. To me, nothing short of a peace god. Sometimes (IMHO) an irritating voice, but he was a great songwriter. "Lennon Legend" is one of my fave CD's so far this year. So a VERY close 2nd today. Faves: Give peace a chance (Hate this? Go to Hades) Instant karma Imagine Just like starting over Cold turkey Jealous guy Whatever gets you through the night Mind games Power to the people #9 dream Woman Stand by me Happy Xmas Nobody told me Woman is the ni**er of the world I'm steppin' out Beautiful boy Mother Watching the wheels (Not crazy like the masses for this--HATE the end) Borrowed time Love Bless you Dear Yoko New York City Working class hero Old dirt road God It's so hard (I've also noticed he has a box set out--one title is "When in doubt F**k it!") Julian Lennon--I thought this guy was gonna be HUGE--so much to the point I thought "Valotte" would be a sure-shot #1. Alas it only hit #9, but I've always dug the follow-up, the deserved top 5 "Too late for goodbyes". Likewise I was surprised when the second album (and "Stick Around") failed to crack the top 30. My album charts book says he had 3 charted albums, but I SWORE he had more. Anyway, great talent. Like father, like son (but don't die at 40! ). Faves: Too late for goodbyes Stick around Valotte Now you're in heaven Say you're wrong Want your body Jesse I want you to know You're the one O.K. for you Tomorrow will (maybe) hopping with "Lemons" and "Lewises"! If Pete can request the Lemonheads, then equal justice should be done for 5 guys from Oxford, Ohio. And in my book (in a perfect world), they shoula had LOTS of hits with their unique blend of bubblegum of psychedelia. Of course, I'm talking about...

Hey Sat! Major Lance: Had some good tunes in my senior year of high school! Great danceable, feel-good tunes. Brenda Lee: More high school. I loved this gal (Read: CRUSH)! Everything she ever did was tops. I must own nearly every 45 of hers, many of them had both sides go top 40. The best one here! Peggy Lee: Yeah, she's peachy keen! I remember Manana as a child, and also loved Fever. And loved watching Lady and the Tramp with her voice there! John Lennon: Sorry, just couldn't cry as I did with Andy. A very big recluse. But I do appreciate his writing and his views on peace. Double Fantasy was a great album. Julian Lennon: Valotte's a cool album! Much like his father, with an 80's twist. BR

LOL about your Yoko/CD theory! I think the only one who listened to her cuts was Bjork! Actually, I think she has some sort of a following! Didn't she have a huge box set years ago?? Do you want me to include the Lemoneads? Yeah, The ONO Box (Or, as I called it, "The OH NO!! Box!!" Yeah, I'm sure someone will remember them!

Major Lance - ?
Brenda Lee - One of the great female singers of the early 60s and was still putting songs in the top 40 in 1967. Really one know a few of her songs, but they are good ones. D!ck Clark included Sweet Nothin's on his 20 Years of Rock & Roll album. Best remembered for the christmas song though. Favorites: Sweet Nothin's, I'm Sorry, Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree, Emotions, Break it to me Gently.
Peggy Lee - Was a little before my time, sort of. I do remember Is That All There Is when it was released. Good Song. Other Favorite would be Fever
John Lennon - What a said day when I woke up in England on that December day in 1980 to here John had been killed. A sad commentary to know there was no real reason for his death either. Never appreciated his solo career when it was happening as I do now. Where I had vinyl of Paul, George, & Ringo's early solo albums, the only vinyl of John's I have is Double Fantasy and it was bought more out of impulse than actually liking it. Agree with the comment about his early hits being period pieces, but Imagine remains a timeless classic. John is another legendary artist that is a favorite of my son. Favorites: Imagine, Whatever Gets You Through the Night, Mind Games, Starting Over
Julian Lennon - Sounded like daddy, just didn't make the hits like daddy. Favorites: Valotte, Too Late for Goodbyes.

I think my dad has that 98 release. Is it any good? It's very good - It's heavy on ballads though(which isn't a bad thing) of the 14 songs there are only two that are uptempo - And She Cries and I Don't Wanna Know which is very Beatlesque sounding. The only track that isn't my favorite is a song called Kiss Beyond the Catcher it's ok . it's really a nice sounding CD very relaxing - it's not an album too shake your moneymaker too LOL but something to put on, on a rainy day.

Major Lance-No idea who this is.
Brenda Lee-The only song I like of hers is "Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree". Very cool hit indeed. I think I saw her on a celebrity version of "Wheel of Fortune" during country music week.
Peggy Lee- I only know the one song she did, which was "Fever", and I admit...I enjoyed it. In fact, I didn't really care that Madonna re-did the song in 1993 because the song is just so good. (I like Peggy's better)
John Lennon-I never actually got to see him live, since he died while I was still in the womb...nevertheless, he was definitely a legend along with the other three Beatles. I think some of his better hits were from his solo days than with the Beatles. I enjoyed hits like "Imagine", "Woman", "Just Like Starting Over" and several others. He is still missed 22 and a half years after his murder.
Julian Lennon-I loved the songs "Valotte" and "Much Too Late For Goodbyes". The eerie thing is that he sounded very similar to his father (at least I think so).
