After being late yesterday, I am way early today because we are heading out to the zoo! (Cue Simon and Garfunkel or the Scorpions. Or even McCartney's Zoogang!) Love and Rockets-Suggested by Kitty and Pete. Only knew the one hit, and thought it was not bad. Love the background singing. "Do-do". Actually what I liked best was the legs in the video! Fave-So Alive Lovin' Spoonful-Was kinda surprised they went into the Hall. Not that they don't deserve it, but I think of others that are STILL not in. Plus I thought the Hall wouldn't think much of a group like this. Oh well, I like em. Good summer fun pop music. Tied in with the whole Mama's & Papa's/Byrds music scene. Faves-Six O'Clock, You Didn't Have to Be So Nice, Summer in the City, Daydream, Rain on the Roof. Loretta Lynn-I am sure you country traditionalists are sick of all the ladies of the 90s I list , I thought I needed to include Ms. Lynn! Admittedly, I don't know too much by her, but I know she is a legend, and one of the "first ladies" of country music. Side note:Loretta inducted Martina into the Grand Ole Opry in 95. Faves-One's on the Way, Will the Circle Be Unbroken? (That's all I could think of!) Jeff Lynne-I know I'm stretching a bit here. But I do know 2 songs, and I wanted to see if anyone else was into his stuff. He only has one solo album. Picked it up on cassette in a cut out bin for like a buck! LOL! If you ever saw the movie Deuce Bigelow, you heard one song, over the end credits. Faves-Lift Me Up, Every Little Thing. Lynyrd Skynyrd-I'm not as big a fan of theirs as other people I know, but I know they are a great band. And, IMO, should be on the Hall ballot! Maybe they are, but still not in! Hell, maybe they should be on the country Hall ballot, since most artists today listened to them over say George Jones. Again, not big on them, but there are a couple cool songs. Faves-You Got That Right, Don't Ask Me No Questions, Call Me the Breeze. And you?

Love and Rockets-"Ball Of Confusion" is my favourite hit, and it's probably a hit that never charted in the US, but it was a Top 40 hit in Canada.
Lovin' Sp00nful-I don't understand why Sp00nful is considered a bad word, but okay. My favourite song here is "Do You Believe In Magic".
Loretta Lynn-Everyone loves at least one song from the "Coal Miners Daughter"...and that just happens to be my favourite.
Jeff Lynne-I've heard of him...don't know any of his stuff though.
Lynyrd Skynyrd-I really enjoy "Sweet Home Alabama" a lot!

If you notice, it's the letters P-O-O-N that get edited. So they must be thinking of a girl's "thingy"!

Love and Rockets - I only know 'So Alive' - a good song, but not heard very often these days, unfortunately.
Lovin' Spo0nful - I've always loved this group's sound - a nice blend of folk and pop. John Sebastian's 'Welcome Back' was wonderful also. I wish oldies radio played more of their deeper cuts. Favorites: Do You Believe in Magic, Summer in the City, Coconut Grove, Didn't Want to Have to Do It, Six O'Clock.
Loretta Lynn - Definitely a country legend. I don't own much of her music, but wouldn't mind picking up a greatest hits sometime. Favorites: Coal Miner's Daughter, You Ain't Woman Enough, One's on the Way.
Jeff Lynne - I can't say I've heard any of his solo material, but his work with ELO and others is great.
Lynyrd Skynyrd - A former boyfriend got me listening to this group back in 1985, along with several other southern rock bands. Not a top group for me, but I do enjoy a lot of their music. Favorites: That Smell, Call Me the Breeze, What's Your Name, Sweet Home Alabama.

Love and Rockets - A buddy of mine bought a couple of 12'' singles by them back then . The only song I remember hearing is their cover of Ball of Confusion - saw the video a few times too . Faves - Ball of Confusion Lovin ' Sthingyful - I've always enjoyed their music . I have various 45 's by the guys , a Very Best of on vinyl and Rhino's Anthology CD . Zal Yanovsky was inducted into the Canadian Hall of Fame a few years ago I remember seeing it on TV on the Juno Awards . John Sebastian was there with him it was nice to see them together . For the past several years Zal owned a Restaurant in Toronto. RIP. Faves include : Jug Band Music , Summer In The City , She's Still a Mystery , Daydream , Six O' Clock , Nashville Cats ,Did You Ever Have to Make Up Your Mind and Never Going Back. Loretta Lynn - She is a legend . I've seen the movie Coal Miner's Daughter a few times - I like it . Remember Levon Helm playing the role of her dad. I was just on the All music website trying to refresh my memory, and I actually know more songs than I realized. Faves: Coal Miners Daughter , Don't Come Home a Drinkin' and You Ain't Woman Enough. Jeff Lynne - Armchair Theatre I love that CD!! - bought it when it came out . Saw the video for Lift Me Up a few times as well . This album should have been a BIG hit . Faves : Lift Me Up , Every Little Thing , Nobody Home , Don't Say Goodbye (this would have fit in nicely on the Discovery album IMO ,Blown Away and What Would it Take. Lynyrd Skynyrd - I have a best of on CD . They had quite a few really good tunes. Of course part of that whole southern rock genre. Faves: Sweet Home Alabama , Call Me The Breeze , What's Your Name , Don't Ask Me No Questions , Swamp Music , You Got That Right , Downsouth Jukin' and Workin' For MCA

Love & Rockets - Thanks for putting them in. I lived for this band in highschool and my early college days. I just dig Daniel Ash's voice and David J is a great songwriter. L&R was made up of 3/4 of the band Bauhaus and their earlier recordings still retained a lot of that gothy feel, but they gradually grew into their own unique sound that combined so many music genres it's hard to describe. "Earth, Sun, Moon" is my favorite of their albums. Faves: Everybody Wants To Go To Heaven, Waiting For The Flood, No Words No More, So Alive
Lovin' Sp00nful - (the fact that you can't write an innocent word like "sp00n" bugs me) Anyway, I like John Sebastian's quirky voice but I never really got into this band's stuff. Faves: Daydream, Do You Believe In Magic?, Summer In The City
Loretta Lynn - Finally a country artist on the list that I can get on board with. I love this lady! I have seen her perform live a bunch of times and I've never been disappointed. My grandmother was a huge fan of Loretta's so I knew the words to You're Lookin' At Country at the age of 8. LOL! Faves: You're Lookin' At Country, Fist City, You Ain't Woman Enough, Honky Tonk Girl
Jeff Lynne - He had a solo album? I feel totally out of it.
Lynyrd Skynyrd - Not really fan. Tragic story surrounding the band that always makes me sad though. Faves: Tuesday's Gone, Simple Man

Love And Rockets-I used to get a lot of requests for them at the club. Their '89 self titled album (from which "So Alive" came from) is GREAT! They were 3/4 of Bauhaus in the late 70s, then singer Peter Murphy went on to a solo career in '82 (in Goth-rock circles, he's an ICON!). The other three became Tones On Tail, then Love and Rockets. Both Daniel Ash and David J have done some good solo stuff as well. L&R is more glam influenced than goth, kind of in the Bowie/T-Rex mold. Faves: No New Tale To Tell, All In My Mind, and the entire '89 album! Lovin Sp00nful-Sthingyful? That's classic! LMAO.. I love this group and all of their hits (with the exception of "Nashville Cats", which I don't care for). Loretta Lynn-Classic country artist, not great in the looks department, but a talented singer. Jeff Lynne-I know people who have the album, I never heard it.. I may pick it up sometime. But first I need to head over to Dawn's post and give my opinion of Out Of The Blue! Lynyrd Skynard-Never got it, too "Rednecky" for my taste.. sorry

Loretta Lynn - Country legend. She is such a smart woman too. She's been through a lot, and it shows in her versatility as a musician. I've read articles about her, and she is just an incredibly strong person despite all the troubles she has encountered. I always loved her duets with Conway Twitty. They were like magic.

Wow two hall of famers and two that eventually will be (Jeff Lynne will get in at some point with ELO). Good List.
Love & Rockets - ?
Lovin' Spo0nful - A great sixties rock/pop/country/etc kinda band. I too was a little surprised they got into the Rockhall before groups like the Moody Blues & Chicago, but they do deserve the nod. One of my all time favorite groups (#17) and John Sebastian has one great voice. And these guys are playing a free concert in my town (Manhattan, KS) at 8:00pm CDT, Saturday Jun 7, 2003, outdoors under the stars. Guess where I'm going to be Saturday Night. Favorites: Summer in the City, Darlin' Be Home Soon, Nashville Cats, Jug Band Music, Daydream, Me About You, Do You Believe in Magic.
Lorretta Lynn - Great legendary country singer. Can listen to her in short bursts.
Jeff Lynne - Really should have stayed with ELO. Don't know any of his solo stuff.
Lynard Skynard - Another one of my top groups (#19). Like their fusion of rock/country/R&B. Even Sweet Home Alabama is kinda funky. Should be on the Rockhall ballot, and as much as I like them, maybe they should wait a couple of years. RIP Ronnie Van Zant & Steve Gaines. Favorites: Sweet Home Alabama, Tuesday's Gone, What's Your Name, Free Bird, Crossroads, Gimme Three Steps.

So how was the zoo? Love and Rockets--I know So Alive. Good song. I know nothing else by them. Lovin' Sp00nful--Pleasant, feel good music. I always like it. I'm surprised nobody has mentioned the origin of the band's name. Well, maybe it's not appropriate for a family site. ;D Loretta Lynn--Excellent songwriter, talented singer. Led a hard life, but has remained strong through it all. She's the stuff that legends are made of. I admire her a lot. Having said that, I rarely listen to her. LOL! Jeff Lynne--Never knew he had a solo career. Lynyrd Skynyrd--My husband was into them big time, so I grew to like their music more and more over the years. Good stuff! Tragic end, though. I just found the infamous "Flames" album at a thrift store not too long ago.

Levon was an actor? WOW! I always had trouble finding a single disc compilation that had You Got That Right, Don't Ask Me AND all the regular versions of their big songs!
