Continuing with the M's. Manfred Man/Earth Band-This is for both the British Invasion, and the later revamped "classic rock" lineup. Of their two big early hits, it seems there was a singer Paul Jones, and another one, Mike D'abo (?). But the second singer isn't listed in my Billboard book for some reason! When they became the Earth Band, they made quite a career covering Bruce Springsteen's first album! LOL! If you ask me, they gave life to those songs! Much like others gave life to Dylan's songs. For You is a classic rock staple and wasn't even a single. Faves-For You, Spirit in the Night, Quinn the Eskimo, Blinded By the Light, Do Wah Diddy Diddy. Manhattan Transfer-This is a request from Kathy. To be honest, all I know is Boy From New York City, which I had on 45 at one point. Like both versions, actually. This gives a little bit of jazz pop to the list. Fave-Boy From New York City. Barry Manilow-Lora, do ya like him since he played for Bette? Hey, say what you want about Barry, I like him. And, he IS talented. I remember I used to talk music with this girl I used to work with all the time, and she was trying to be funny by asking who I like more, him or Michael Bolton. I mean, come on, no contest! Barry at least has talent and can sing. I think a lot has to do with memories. I don't think there is a person within 5 years of my age whose mom DIDN'T listen to Barry back then! Faves-Weekend in New England (all time top 15-last song played at my wedding), It's a Miracle, Tryin' to Get That Feeling Again, Daybreak, Looks Like We Made it. Marshall Tucker Band-In about 1990, my buddy and I went to see the Beach Boys. These guys opened up. We recognized the name, but didn't think we knew anything. Then they went into Can't You See, and we were like "OH YEAH!!" LOL! And then it was actually years later that I realized Heard it in a Love Song was them too. Another misheard lyric-thought it was Pretty Little Love Song! LOL! Faves-Heard it in a Love Song, Can't You See. Martha & the Vandellas-I was a little suprised when they made the Hall because it always seemed to me that beyond the Supremes, there was a slew of girl groups that all had a similar sound with nowhere near the amount of hits Martha had. But I guess their hits are pretty legendary. More power to them. Faves-Nowhere to Run, Heat Wave, Jimmy Mack. And you?

Manfred Mann/Earth Band - I like both incarnations of this group. They're often overshadowed by some of the better-known British Invasion groups, but they had some great songs. Favorites: Runner, Blinded By the Light, Mighty Quinn, Pretty Flamingo. Manhattan Transfer - Wonderful vocal group with superb harmonies. I have their Rhino greatest hits collection, and it's excellent. Favorites: Twilight Zone/Twilight Tone, The Boy from New York City, Spice of Life, Mystery. Barry Manilow - One of my favorite male artists since I was very young. I've been very troubled by the Barry-bashing that has gone on in the media in recent years. He's very talented, and his music still holds up very well today, IMO. Favorites: It's a Miracle, Could It Be Magic, Mandy, Weekend in New England, Looks Like We Made It, New York City Rhythm, Copacabana, Daybreak, Ships, I Write the Songs. Marshall Tucker Band - Great southern rock group. I remember they played here locally a few years ago, and like a fool I didn't go. Favorites: Fire on the Mountain, Heard It in a Love Song, Can't You See (love the flute!). Martha and the Vandellas - One of my favorite Motown female groups. Martha Reeves has a great voice, very soulful and energetic. Favorites: Honey Chile, Jimmy Mack, Come and Get These Memories, Heat Wave.

Manfred Mann - Always liked both the 60's and 70's Manfred bands . They really did an excellent job on the Springsteen tracks especially For You taking the arrangment, changing it and making it their own. Up until 1989 , as far as the 60's tunes , I was familiar with a handful (Do Wah , 5 - 4-3-2-1 , Pretty Flamingo, etc) then I bought a british import called The Singles Plus that includes 25 tracks ('63 - '66) there is some amazing stuff included . A very talented band . Paul had an excellent voice . Yes Mike D'abo is correct Faves: 5-4-3-2-1 , John Hardy , Do Wah Diddy Diddy , If You Gotta Go , Go Now , Mighty Quinn , For You , Blinded By Light , Come Tomorrow , Spirits in The Night , What You Gonna Do, Without You and Sha La La. Manhatten Transfer - The only song I'm familiar with is Boy From New York City ,I have the Twilight Zone / Tone song on a disco compilation CD but have never listened to it. I recall seeing them sing on Sesame Street as well? - faves : Boy From New York City . Barry Manilow - I had the 45's of both Mandy and It's a Miracle - I admit it! ;D . One of the daughter's that lived next - door was a HUGE fan of Barry's . Agreed that at least Barry can sing , old Mike always sounds like the guy is being tortured LOL. Faves: Mandy , Looks Like We Made it and It's a Miracle Marshall Tucker Band - Only know two songs , but what great songs they are! . Can't You See (awesome track!) , and Heard it in a Love Song. Martha and The Vandellas - Cool Motown stuff . Faves: Heatwave , Danger Breakdown Ahead , Jimmy Mack , Dancing in The Street and Nowhere To Run.

Manfred Mann - I'm not as familiar with their earlier stuff as I am with the 70s Springsteen-inspired treasures. Which singer in the 60s sang the lead on "Mighty Quinn" anyone know? Whichever guy it was looked exactly like my 9th grade math teacher. Anyway...good stuff. Faves: Blinded By The Light, Mighty Quinn, For You, Spirits In The Night
Manhattan Transfer - FABULOUS harmonies. They're amazing to see live. Their Xmas albums are played in my house ad nauseum. Faves: Boy From NYC, Scotch & Soda, Birdland, Sing Joy Spring, To You, Another Night In Tunisia
Barry Manilow - Yay! Obviously my fave on the list today. What can I say that I haven't already, I just love this guy's voice and the way he arranges songs. And he puts on one of the most exciting live shows out there IMO. I listen to his stuff all the time, especially when I'm in the sing-along mood. I probably have too many favorites to list here...oh forget that, I'll list my top 15 not in order: Daybreak, Somewhere Down The Road, Even Now, Looks Like We Made It, It's A Miracle, This One's For You, Could It Be Magic, Somewhere In The Night, I Am Your Child, Ready To Take A Chance Again, Weekend In New England, Mandy, Jump Shout Boogie, All The Time, NY City Rhythm
Marshall Tucker Band - Are they still around touring somewhere? Anyway I dig that Love Song song. Faves: Heard It In A Love Song, Can't You See
Martha & The Vandellas - Good stuff here. Faves: Jimmy Mack (inside family joke regarding this song so I always get a case of the giggles when I hear it), Nowhere To Run, Come & Get These Memories, Third Finger Left Hand, In My Lonely Room

Manfred Mann - I have Roaring Silence & Angel Station (bought in England) on vinyl and Doo Wah Diddy on a few compilations. Saw him perform Blinded by the Light on some TV show in the 70s (can't remember what), but it was pretty awesome with pyrotechnics and all. Had a couple of hits in England that I thought were pretty good, Davey's on the Road Again & You Angel You, but they didn't make the top 40 here. Pretty good band and good music. Favorites: Doo Wah Diddy (enjoyed the routine in Stripes), Pretty Flamingo, Quinn the Eskimo, and the three already mentioned.
Manhattan Transfer - Pretty good jazz/pop group. I got a couple of albums on vinyl. Favorites: Boy from New York City, Twilight Zone.
Manhattans - Got one of their albums, but really only listened to Kiss and Say Goodbye (favorite)
Barry Manilow - Liked his early stuff, but really got tired of him by the late 70s. Wife still likes him, so we still listen to his music, usually on the lite rock station. Favorites: Weekend in New England, Mandy, Daybreak.
Marshall Tucker Band - Saw these guys with Lynard Skynard back in 1975. Didn't know them then, but grew to like them. Pretty good country rockers from South Carolina. Favorites: Fire on the Mountain, Heard it in a Love Song, Can't You See.
Martha & the Vandellas - Pretty good Motown group. Only songs I like are Heatwave & Dancing in the Street

Manfred Mann-I have the early collection on CD (The Ascot Years). I never liked Do Wah Diddy Diddy, to me it's another overplayed oldie. But I love "Sha La La" and "Pretty Flamingo". "Mighty Quinn" is good, too, but it's not on this collection. For the Earth Band, I LOVE Blinded By The Light and Spirit In The Night, as well as their '84 hit, "Runner". They did to the Springsteen song the same thing the Byrds did to "Mr. Tamborine Man": they made it RADIO FRIENDLY!
Manhattan Transfer-I don't know much by them, but a friend of mine has a CD collection and he LOVES it!
Barry Manilow-I like him, though for years I didn't. I LOVE Daybreak and "Read 'em and Weep" (I heard it once, and right away I KNEW that Jim Steinman wrote it!!!) BTW- Since Bruce Johnston wrote "I Write The Songs", that is the closest the Beach Boys ever came to winning a Grammy!
Marshall Tucker Band-As much as I dislike Southern Rock, I like "Heard It In A Love Song"
Martha & The Vandellas-Too bad The Supremes would overshadow this group and The Marvelettes. IMO, these two groups were better!

Kidding of course, I watched it many times before Skylar was born! Sesame Street - LOL - I started to watch it again when my nieces were little Mike D'abo -Yeah that is odd , because he mentions him joining the band in ' 67 but doesn't bother to add he was the vocalist

Manfred Mann/Earth Band--I can remember my mom loving the song Quinn the Eskimo. I probably remember her singing it better than I do Manfred Mann. LOL! Anyway--don't know much by them beyond the hits, but I really like the hits. Good stuff! Manhattan Transfer--Yay! Thanks for including them. It's nice to see one of my suggestions being appreciated by some people. Usually when I think of someone to include, nobody knows them, or they don't like 'em. LOL! That's ok though. It's all good. Now I guess I should comment on the group. ;D One of my favorites from my youth. And it's funny, because I don't normally go for that jazzy kind of music. But I love the harmonies and their very distinct sound that they had. I have several albums by them, and a greatest hits CD that I haven't listened to in awhile, but I think I will have to very soon. I used to know all the members names. Let's see...Janis Siegel, Alan Paul, Tim Hauser, and...Laurel Massey(?). Laurel eventually left the group and was replaced by Cheryl Bentyne. Whew! That gave the ol' memory bank a workout. I think those names are correct. Some favorite songs: Trickle, Trickle, Operator (LOVE it), Gloria (LOVE it, too!), Tuxedo Junction, Java Jive, Twilight Zone, Route 66, and Boy from New York City. I could go on and on about this group, but that's quite enough for now. Barry Manilow--Y'know, I always say I don't like him much, but truth be told, he's an integral part of my childhood. I had a lot of his albums growing up, and a friend of mine absolutely LOVED him, so I had to hear about him all the time. LOL! I really do enjoy most of his songs, and one in particular, called Lay Me Down, is just exceptional. I believe it's on his live album, and I used to listen to that one all the time. Great song! So yeah, Mr. Manilow is ok in my book. ;D Marshall Tucker Band---I only know a couple of songs, but they're SO good. 'Specially Can't You See. An all time fave of mine. Also like Heard it in a Love Song. You know the lyric--"...Can't be wrong"? A friend of mine used to sing, in all seriousness: "Purty little love song--ten feet long". LMAO! ;D Martha/Vandellas--Martha Reeves has a great voice, and their songs are classics. I like 'em a lot. Faves: Heat Wave, Jimmy Mack, Nowhere to Run, Dancin' in the Street.

I have those other MMEB songs you mentioned above on a compilation. I'll have to give em a listen! I noticed you added in the Manhattans! LOL!! Was that a hint to include them? No, I just assumed they where next in line on your list since they are next in line after Manhattan Transfer in the old Joel Whitburn book I was looking at. Oh well, if you include them tomorrow (they did have 3 top 40 hits), I don't have to answer because I already have.
