Today is NOT a good day, IMO. Boogie, would you agree? Throwing in a bonus artist today, since dodger reviewed them yesterday! LOL!! Manhattans-this is the one dodger threw in yesterday. I had thought about including them, but all I really know is Shining Star! I remember when I re-discovered EWF's Shining Star, I wasn't sure if it was actually this song! I know they had a bigger hit with Kiss and Say Goodbye, but I don't remember it. But Shining Star is a good tune! Bob Marley-One Hall of Famer today anyway. I'm not big on Reggae though. Not cuttin' on it, just not my thing. Actually, my wife has his greatest hits, further proving what a wide variety of musical taste she has! I only know a few songs. Legend, father of Reggae. Faves-One Love, I Shot the Sheriff. Richard Marx-Ick. Fluffy pop wanna be hard rock. Never liked it and almost choked when the local rock (read: HARD rock) station played one of his songs! No thanks, I'll pass on him. Is doing better now producing some country pop acts. Faves-none. Dave Mason-Only artist today I can say I LIKE. Can actually say he was a member of Fleetwood Mac, forget the fact that it was the most forgettable lineup/album. Loved "Disagree" as a kid. Prefer his version of Only You Know and I Know. Our station here recently started playing So High. Good tune! Another artist my wife had the greatest hits of! Of course, let's not forget his stint in Traffic, with lead vocals on tracks like Hole in My Shoe and the legendary Feelin' Alright, covered by EVERYBODY. Faves-We Just Disagree, Only You Know and I Know, So High (Rock Me Baby and Roll Me Away). Johnny Mathis-I know Chances Are and Too Much, Too Little, Too Late. Too lite. No thanks, I'll pass. Faves-none. Dave Matthews-I apologize, because I think there are fans of his here, but I REALLY don't see the big deal. Not horrible, I've heard worse, but I've seen such praise heaped on him! I have that special Time Life issue honoring Rock and Roll history, and he is listed as one of the top 100 acts?? Already??? And some Hall of Famers were missing from that list too. Faves-none really, only know What Would You Say and Ants Marching. And you?

I've only got a couple of minutes here right now, so I won't be as "talkative" as I was on yesterday's post. Manhattans--Well, I have bad memories of "Shining Star", cuz back in high school, some goofy guy that liked me that I couldn't stand used to sing this to me. Gawd! I just wanted him to leave me alone. LOL! The only other one I know by them is "Kiss and Say Goodbye". It's ok. Bob Marley--Never was a big fan, although I do have an album of his. I like a few songs by him: Jammin', No Woman, No Cry, Get Up, Stand Up, and I Shot the Sheriff. Not someone I listen to on a regular basis. Richard Marx--Have to admit, I like him a lot. I know he had some sappy tunes, but I think he came around at a time when I didn't mind sappy too much. LOL! I have 2 or 3 of his CD's. Used to play them a lot more than I do now, but they hold memories for me, so I'd have to consider myself a fan of his. Dave Mason--Don't know much about him. Interesting about him being in Fleetwood Mac. I don't think I knew that. Faves: The ones you mentioned. Johnny Mathis--Like you, I'll pass. Not my kind of music at all. My mom didn't even like him, so at least I didn't have to listen to him growing up. LOL! Dave Matthews--I really like his more upbeat tunes. But some of those long, slow songs practically put me to sleep. I hope I never have to hear "Crash" again. Faves: What Would You Say, Ants Marching.

Manhattans- only know "Kiss & Say Goodbye", don't like it.
Marley- not a fan of reggae, have the "Harder They fall" soundtrack, and like it a lot. Like "Get Up Stand Up".
Marx (Richard)- no.
Dave Mason- just didn't make it as a solo artist. Too bad-his first solo album "Alone Together" is wonderful! Played a lot on "underground FM' way back when, not played now. Fave song- "Shouldn't Have Took More than You Gave".
Mathis- wonderful! Great songs to cuddle up with the honey & listen to. His early stuff is better than his "comeback" material. Faves- "Misty" and "Twelfth of Never".
Dave Matthews- I'm with you on this. I sorta like "Crash", that's it.

The Manhattens - I think I might have heard Kiss and Say Goodbye a couple of times in the 70's . I do remember Shining Star , But that was basically all I heard until a few years ago when I was putting some music together for a wedding I was doing and found a best of CD at my library alot of their music is quite good. Faves:Kiss and Say Goodbye , Shining Star and I Kinda Miss You.
Bob Marley - I'm not really big on reggae either but I have a lot of respect for the guy .My local classic rock station has started to play more of his stuff over the last few years. His albums sell very well for me at our record shows so I pick up whatever I can find. I don't mind a few of his tunes. Faves : Get Up Stand Up , Jammin' and I Shot The Sherrif (of course like most of us I heard Clapton's version first.)
Richard Marx - Really not much to say other than I use to get requests for Right Here Waiting when I DJ'd . It always went over well . Faves - none
Dave Mason - I also really liked We Just Disagree as a kid I have it on a compilation cassette . Only You Know and I Know is a fantastic tune as well (I also have Delaney and Bonnie's versionon 45).Loved his work with Traffic heard Hole in My Shoe quite a bit as a wee lad. Faves: We just Disagree , Hole in My Shoe , Feelin' Alright , Only You Know and I Know.
Johnny Mathis - I don't mind him ,it's not something I rush home to listen to but its ok to hear a track once in a while . I remember hearing Too Much, Too little , Too late many times when it first came out. Faves : Chances Are and The Twelfth of Never.
Dave Mathews - He does have his fan base and I'm sure some of them are here . So I too apologize but I just never saw what the big deal was, ok I will say that he is a talented guitar player but his songs just don't do a thing for me and I don't care for his voice at all Faves - none

The only ones today that I can stand at all are Bob Marley (he's okay) and Richard Marx (not bad). A few of the songs by the Dave Matthews Band I do like, but his voice bothers me. I do have something for today though-- [glow=red,2,300]Happy Birthday to Judy Garland!!!![/glow] ;D She would be 81 today.

Manhattans - I'm only familiar with a few songs, but all of those are good ones. Nice vocals. Favorites: Kiss and Say Goodbye (reminds me so much of summer 1976), Shining Star, Don't Take Your Love, Crazy.
Bob Marley - I've never been much of a fan of reggae, and wasn't too familiar with his material until fairly recently. Not bad, but not really my style either. Favorites: I Shot the Sheriff, No Woman No Cry.
Richard Marx - I liked a few of his songs back in the day, but they haven't aged well with me, unfortunately. Favorite: Should've Known Better.
Dave Mason - I really need to investigate his material more closely. I've always loved 'We Just Disagree', and 'Only You Know and I Know' is great also.
Johnny Mathis - This is an artist I discovered a few years ago while listening to a "nostalgia" station, and I was surprised by how much I enjoyed his music. He has a good voice, very soothing. Favorites: Misty, Wonderful! Wonderful!, The Twelfth of Never, Too Much, Too Little, Too Late.
Dave Matthews Band - These guys are really big where I live, largely because they're originally from Charlottesville, and are considered to be locals. I think they've been somewhat overrated, and I've never really gotten into their music. Favorites: So Much to Say, What Would You Say.

Manhattans-My PBS station was nice enough to replay "Rythym, Love and Soul"--twice--last week. Anyway, The Manhattans sang "Kiss and Say Goodbye". (They MIGHT have sung "Shining Star" as well--but we'll have to wait til the DVD comes out to know for sure. )Great sound; smooth choreography. Johnny Mathis-My favorite songs of his are "Wonderful, Wonderful" and "Marshmallow World" That really IS what the world looks like in the winter! (Well, in SOME places, at least)

Manhattans - I only know "Kiss & Say Goodbye" which I like. I didn't know they did the original "Shining Star". Hmmm...I should check it out. Bob Marley - It seems like his music has been requisite listening for highschool and college kids for like the last 20 years. I don't have any problem with that except that it means that I find most of Bob and The Wailers stuff to be OVERPLAYED AD NAUSEUM. It's sad that it's almost a jokey cliche to hear "Redemption Song" and think of kids in a college dorm room getting stoned and thinking about the "injustice of it all". Anyway, the point I'm lamely trying to make is that my appreciation for Marley's music has been greatly affected. He is a legend and one of the most influential artists and political activists of his day and that shouldn't be discounted. I never listen to his stuff but there are songs of his that I really love. Faves: Waiting In Vain, Exodus, Jammin, Could You Be Loved Richard Marx - I'll go against the grain and give him some compliments. He's a great session musician (where he got his music biz start at the age of 16!) and a really good song writer (there's a caveat to this that I'll get to). I also think he has a decent voice but I really don't like most of the songs he's recorded AT ALL. Like Michael Bolton, his talents are better served writing for and producing other people. Still, I will admit to liking "Don't Mean Nothing" and "Right Here Waiting" but I think they'd be better songs if other people sang them. Dave Mason - Childhood memories galore. My parents had an 8 track of the "Let It Flow" album that was played in our 1976 station wagon all the time. ;D Faves: Bring It On Home To Me, We Just Disagree, Let It Go Let It Flow Johnny Mathis - Oy. As much as I like standards and smary cheese vocal stuff like this, I hate Johnny Mathis and his weird nasaly voice. I like a lot of the songs he's made famous (like Chances Are, Wonderful Wonderful, Misty) when they're sang by other people. Dave Matthews - What is all the hype about? He and his band are alright but totally overrated. I still remember them as the boring house band of this bar in Harrisonburg VA that was popular with all of the James Madison Univ students. Funny, my mom LOVES them and she gets upset when I say negative things about them. He lives in Seattle now, about 3 blocks away from my house. I've seen him with his kids in the grocery store and I couldn't care less. Edited to add that I do actually like one of his songs:/i] "Jimi Thing"
Boy! I sure was long-winded and opinionated today. I apologize...

Yikes! You ain't kiddin'!!
I can't say much for any of these, but I like SOME of Bob Marley and Dave Matthews songs. Nothing I'd buy a whole CD of, though.
I'm curious to check out Dave Mason, he's a name I've heard a lot, but don't know his music.

I'm probably gonna have a different opinion on a couple of these today. Manhattans- Only familiar with Kiss and Say Goodbye and Shining Star. Like em both, but I wouldn't say I love them. Bob Marley- Not big on Reggae either. I like the song I Shot the Sheriff, but I'd rather hear Clapton do it. Richard Marx- Sorry -- I like the guy. I think Right Here Waiting for You, Now and Forever, and Hold On Through the Nights are pretty decent songs. -- But Hazard is somewhere in the 80s of my all time Top 100 Faves! It kinda snuck in there. I only heard it 2-3 times when it was popular in '92 (wasn't listening to the radio much) --and I only heard parts of the song and never heard who sang it. But that line "I swear I left her by the river" kinda haunted me for a few years. I'd ask people if they knew where it came from, and no one could tell me (I guess I was asking the wrong people). Finally, I did an Internet search on the line and got the answer. I found the song listened to it and really liked it and had to delve into the "mystery" (there are actually websites devoted to it). Anyway, Marx gets my vote just because of Hazard. Dave Mason- Really only know We Just Disagree. Good song. Johnny Mathis- Hey -- you young whippersnappers may not like Johnny Mathis, but back in the 50s and 60s there was no better way to get your girl "in the mood" than to put "Johnny's Greatest Hits"on the stereo and besides that,I really like quite a few of his songs: Wonderful Wonderful, What Will My Mary Say, Chances Are, It's Not For Me To Say, Twelfth Of Never, and Misty (yeah, the one featured in the Clint Eastwood Movie "Play Misty for Me") are my faves. Dave Matthews- I really don't know them. I know that several years ago, my son couldn't stand them, then with some of their later stuff, he became a fan, and now goes to their concerts.
