I must admit, I really haven't heard anything by Martina McBride. My taste usually does not run to country music, but I am open to new experiences. I love Christmas music, so perhaps I will have to check out her version of "Oh Holy Night" which is one of my favourite Christmas songs.

Paul McCartney - I have always enjoyed his music, both with the Beatles and his solo work. "Say Say Say" was a complete abomination - even worse than "Give My Regards to Broadstreet". Actually, I liked some of the soundtrack but thought the movie was really lame. I loved "Mull of Kintyre", "Junior's Farm", "Band on the Run", "Silly Love Songs", "Maybe I'm Amazed", "Uncle Albert/Admiral Halsey" and many more.

When I was younger, my brothers used to bring their small record player to the cottage, and of the 45's they used to bring, many of them were on the Apple label. That was where I first heard "Uncle Albert/Admiral Halsey". I loved "Hands across the water (water), hands across the sky" - what a great chorus!

McCoys - I liked "Hang on Sloopy"

Gene McDaniels - not really familiar with his work.

Michael McDonald - his voice can indeed be very annoying. I liked "I Keep Forgettin" but that's the only one I really remember of his.

You should really try her! She doesn't have that country twang to her. It's just great singing! O Holy Night floors me everytime!

Martina McBride - Ozzy - Wow! I first heard her back in '93 with Independence Day and right from that point I knew that there was something special - her voice was just amazing .

I have really got into her music in the past year (thank you Adam! for all the suggested tunes, that I wasn't familiar with ) . Where Would You Be REALLY knocked me out , she seemed to hold some of those notes forever.Concrete Angel sure tugs at the old heart strings too . She has the most stunning eyes I have ever seen - just gorgeous!

Paul McCartney - His solo work as well as The Beatles catalogue of music has been such a HUGE part of my life , I just don't know where to start! - Apart from the kids records I heard as a toddler their music was the first "grown - up" music that I remember.

I still don't quite understand that whole "changing of song credits" fiasco - why after all these years? they split the royalties 50 / 50 anyway regardless of who wrote it? maybe I just haven't heard all the details surrounding it - I don't know. Anyway the music is what matters here and he's made his fair share of fine tunes , and he is one FINE bass player!

Michael McDonald - I don't mind him , I do a pretty good impression of him LOL - I like his work with the doobies better than his solo material , but If I had to choose a couple of faves I would pick: Sweet Freedom and I Keep Forgettin' .

I was bored and just re-reading this, and didn't see Where Would You Be, one of the songs that got you hooked! But then I saw it above, so I guess that is included in your faves.

I don't remember what she sang, except for one song I really didn't like written by Pam Tillis that had something to do with "nothin cures my broken heart like going to work". That's what turns me off about country. Most people I know do not see work as a means to cure a broken heart.

I feel the need to defend her here. She doesn't really SAY "nothing cures my broken heart like Goin to Work." She just says that going to work gets her mind off the guy.

But, I will say, it is not typical Martina and I am surprised she chose the song. Especially on the same album as such a wise choice as Independence Day. Overall, it's a pretty cheesey song.

You have the right to defend her. I defend both Al and The Monkees a lot. You're not gonna offend me. I only heard the song once, back in I believe 1992. I'm not a Pam Tillis fan (I do like her dad). I don't care for her songs. I was pulling from memory, and sometimes it gets fuzzy. I remember her saying that it was a brand new song. Maybe she was getting a feel for it before she released it. Anyway, the next time I'm going through storage and I find her picture, I'll scan it and send it to you......

And thanks for saying it's kind of cheesy - I agree. I just couldn't find the right terminology.

Well I wanted to point it out as being cheesy because she prides herself on picking songs with meaning and depth. This was just her second album, so there were some songs with real meaning like Indy Day and Cheap Whiskey from the first album, and there was stuff like Goin' to Work.

Each album got better. Wild Angels was next with almost all good stuff. By the following album, Evolution, she hit her stride and every track was a winner.

Listening to that song more, I am actually starting to like it (not so much the lyrics). I am just surprised she picked it because it is such old style country, and not necessarily the good kind.

Ok, now it is becoming one of my faves on the album!

Actually part of the reason is because I can identify with it right now-going to work to get other stuff off my mind.
