Got a request I forgot yesterday.
Kathy Mattea-Kathyb requesting this the other day and I forgot. Don't know anything by her, just her name. I guess she kind of got lost in the shuffle when all the pop style country got big. Even though I don't know her stuff, I am guessing she is like Patty Loveless (even though Kathyb DOESN'T like her! LOL). Faves-don't know any.
Kylie Minogue-Ok I am breaking my own rule of not listing an artist unless I know at least two songs, but I KNOW Juggie will request her. Actually, he may have already. I don't know any of her comeback songs. Just the Lo-co Motion. I'll take Grand Funk's version. Faves-none. (No offense, Jug!)
Missing Persons-Two popular songs/videos of the MTV era. Another band that probably would have gone unnoticed had it not been for MTV. The lead singer was not hard on the eyes. Faves-Destination Unknown, Words.
Mr. Mister-Lightweight pop from the 80s. The bizarre thing is, our Timeless rock station here has played Broken Wings on occasion! Threw me for a loop. Oh well. Had the one album with three hits. No big thing to me. Fave-Kyrie (probably).
Joni Mitchell-I think that same Timeless rock station has played You Turn Me On, I'm a Radio on occasion. I know for sure they have played Big Yellow Taxi and Help Me. LOVE Help Me. Just screams 70s to me. Big Yellow Taxi is a song they play when many lady singers get together. Faves-Help Me, Big Yellow Taxi.
And you?

Kathy Mattea - I'm ashamed that you're not at all familiar with Kathy Mattea! She's really great. Don't hear much by her anymore, but I still like her. Faves - 18 Wheels and a Dozen Roses, 455 Rocket.
Kylie Minogue - I liked her much better in the 80s when she actually wore clothes. But ah well. That's how the music biz goes, I guess. Faves - The Loco-Motion, and there was another song that I recall her doing in the eighties, but I don't remember the name of it. And I have to admit, I just can't get Can't Get You Out of My Head...out of my head.
Joni Mitchell - A legend, and I'm ashamed to say that I'm not really familiar with any of her songs. I'm sure I've heard a few, but I don't keep up with the titles. There was this really great episode of Will & Grace once that revolved around Will and Grace getting to this Joni Mitchell concert. They made another commitment though and weren't gonna go, so Grace bailed out on the other commitment because she was dying to see Joni Mitchell. Anyway, then she came back. You thought it was because she felt bad for bailing out on Will and all, but truth be told - she got asked to leave the concert for singing too loud...by Joni. Ha ha. It was hilarious!

Hi Adam Kathy Mattea - I agree that she seems to have all but disappeared from the airwaves. She had quite a few hits there for awhile though . Faves: Asking Us To Dance , Lonesome Standard Time , Come From The Heart and Eighteen Wheels and a Dozen Roses. Kylie Minogue - I remember hearing The Loco - Motion quite a bit , Grew tired of Can't Get You Out of My Head - sorry Jug . Although I like her latest video -don't recall the song title - of all the Kylie clones walking down the street. Missing Persons - I don't recall hearing Words at the time it came out . I first became aware of it when I bought a K - Tel compilation a few years ago. Faves : Words Mr.Mister - A buddy bought the LP when it came out . I borrowed it and taped it onto cassette . Saw the video's numerous times . Really enjoyed the hits and they still get airplay here in my area . Faves: Kyrie , Broken Wings and Is it Love. Joni Mitchell - I'm not familiar with alot of her songs . But I really respect her ,she has such a varied body of work , folk , pop ,jazz. Was Graham Nash's girlfriend for a while . A Canadian icon - Faves: Big Yellow Taxi , Help Me, Raised On Robbery and The Circle Game.

This is gonna be real easy for me today Kathy Mattea, Kylie Minogue, Missing Persons: Who? Who? and Who? Mr. Mister- I know only their three hits (and don't know Is That Love very well). I'm not a big fan of pseudo-religious pop music and that's the category that I place this group in. That said, I think Broken Wings and Kyrie are decent. I like the harmonies on Kyrie especially. Joni Mitchell- I've never been a huge fan of her music. Never bought her albums. Recognize her writing skills (Both Sides Now, for instance) but don't really care for her as a singer. Big Yellow Taxi is OK (although I know I've heard a cover that I like better - just can't remember who or where). I can't stand You Turn Me On I'm a Radio or Free Man in Paris. Help Me has far too many words in each song measure - I don't like that style.

Kathy Mattea - Like Reba McEntire, Kathy was most popular at a time when I wasn't listening to country music often, so I'm afraid I'm not familiar with many of her hits.
Kylie Minogue - Not bad. Like you, I prefer Grand Funk's version to hers. Favorites: The Loco-Motion, I Should Be So Lucky.
Missing Persons - I don't know a lot about this group, but that techno-New Wave sound really brings back the memories. Favorites: Words, Destination Unknown.
Mr. Mister - 'Broken Wings' on a Timeless Rock station - that would have thrown me for a loop also! LOL! That song was huge my senior year of high school. I only know the first three hit singles, and they're all good. Favorites: Broken Wings, Kyrie, Is It Love.
Joni Mitchell - Very talented and influential singer/songwriter. I like her voice, but like H2, I feel her real strength is in her writing. I couldn't agree with you more about 'Help Me' - one of my very favorite songs, and does it ever bring back the memories! Favorites: Help Me, Free Man in Paris, Big Yellow Taxi, (You're So Square) Baby, I Don't Care (haven't heard this in YEARS!)

Hey, I'm not posting this in the middle of the night for a change. Kathy Mattea--Hmm...I thought you'd be familiar with her, Sat. Give a listen to her sometime. I think you'd like what you hear. BTW--I don't think she's at ALL like Patty Loveless. Patty has a nasally kind of voice (imo). Kathy's voice has a rich, full, quality to it. Much more pleasing to the ear--at least to MY ear--than Patty's voice. I wish Ms. Mattea was still popular. Not quite sure why she just fell off the radar. Just as an aside: I saw Kathy on a talk show a few years ago--she told this story: Whenever she was first starting out, she'd play at little Honky-Tonk bars, and some rinky dink places. A lot of times, she'd have to "book" herself to play, and sometimes she'd have to talk to the manager over the phone, and more times than not, there would be loud music in the background, so it was hard to hear the phone conversation. When she would tell the manager(s) her name--they would misunderstand her. And on the day that she was scheduled to play at these places, the sign outside the establishments would say "Appearing tonight--Captain Potato". Now, is that funny, or what??? LMAO! Ok--Faves--Where've You Been (makes me cry every time), 18 Wheels and A Dozen Roses, Love at the Five and Dime, The Battle Hymn of Love, Untold Stories, A Few Good Things Remain, Lonesome Standard Time, Standing Knee Deep in a River (Dying of Thirst), Listen to the Radio, Time Passes By, Asking Us to Dance, I Wear Your Love, Ready for the Storm, From a Distance (Yes, the Bette Midler song--this version has, of all things, bagpipes. Quite unique. I like it a lot). Ok. Kathy Mattea rant over. ;D Kylie Minogue--I don't have an opinion of her one way or the other. Never listened to her enough to know what she sings. Missing Persons--Very bizarre, but the two songs I know, I like a lot. Mr. Mister--Ick. Bland and boring. No thanks. Joni Mitchell--She's definitely a legend. Great songwriter. I've not listened to her a whole lot, though, I'm afraid. I pretty much only know the songs everyone else has mentioned. I wouldn't mind looking a little further into her music. I think I'd probably enjoy it. Thanks for including Kathy Mattea today, Sat!

Two great artists on the list today! Kathy Mattea - Know the name but I don't know any of her songs. But since KathyB likes her she must be good! Kylie Minogue - Boy, did I HATE the version she did of "Loco-motion". But I do have to admit that a couple of her latest tunes are catchy. Faves: Give It To Me, Can't Get You Outta My Head Missing Persons - LOVE THEM! I'm so glad you included this group. I literally wore their debut album (Spring Session M) out when I was a teenager. I recently bought the remastered reissue CD and it's so great. While you men had Dale Bozzio and her body in little outfits to look at, we female fans had Warren Cuccurullo (so pretty!) who is one of the best guitar players to come out of the 80s. I died and went to heaven when he joined Duran Duran. Anyway, MP is one of my favorite new-wave bands. Faves: Words, Destination Unknown, Mental Hopscotch, Face To Face, Go Against The Flow Mr Mister - Hee...so cheesy. I guess the lead singer guy had a good voice, but oy! They epitomize the lame stuff of my high school years. I think I'd like to hear a remake of "Broken Wing" done - although I don't have any ideas as to who should do it. Joni Mitchell - I'd definitely list her and Van Morrison at the top of my "emotional music" list. Meaning that when I'm at my lowest, and/or most nostalgic and sentimental I listen to them first and foremost. Joni's music has been integral to my life. My mom played her all the time when I was a kid, then I started listening on my own as a teen, which led to a near obessesion with her music in my college days. These days, as I said before, I only break her out when I'm feeling a little sad and only want to burrow in bed and contemplate my life's journey. Okay, I'll shut up about that now and just give you my long list of faves ;D: - The entire Blue album - literally every song from "All I Want" to "The Last Time I Saw Richard" - Conversation - Rainy Night House - Circle Game - Help Me - Free Man In Paris - Coyote - Court & Spark - Come In From The Cold - Night Ride Home Oh and BTW, I actually don't care for "Big Yellow Taxi" or "Clouds". And I like CSN's version of "Woodstock"better too.

But at the same time, they'll play Uriah Heep and Nazareth! That's what makes the station so AWESOME!

Kathy Mattea - ?
Kylie Minogue - Didn't like her in the late 80s and don't like her now.
Missing Persons - ?
Mr. Mister - Their three top 10s are the only songs I know. FavoriteL: Kyrie, Broken Wings.
Joni Mitchell - a top 40 singer and songwriter. Her album Blue was number 14 on the 100 greatest albums. Pretty good resume. An influential songwriter of the 60s (along with Carol King & Laura Nyro), earned her place in the rockhall. Favorites: Both Sides Now, Woodstock, Big Yellow Taxi, Help Me.

Missing Persons-Love them! I have a CD that has 5 songs by them, and 5 songs by The Motels. Best $4.99 I ever spent! Of course, Dale and Terry Bozzio had worked with Zappa, which automatically makes them cool! Dale lives near me, A friend of mine knows her and was going to bring her to my New Wave club, but she's very private these days.
Mr. Mister-I've heard that some of these guys were in Andy Gibb's band. I never bought the first album (I've never even seen it) but I do own "Welcome To The Real World", as well as their third album, "Go On", which had a GREAT minor hit called "Something Real (Inside Me/Inside You).
Joni Mitchell-I know her songs better by other people than I know her own music. But I LOVE "Help Me" and "Free Man In Paris".
Can't comment on Kathy or Kylie, except that Kylie is a HOT little thing!!!
