I really liked these guys. Their sound was so eclectic. What's your opinion?

Mixed.
At first I really liked Everybody Wants to Rule the World and Shout, bought the latter single. But got quick of them VERY quickly when MTV ran them into the ground. Head Over Heels was decent, and I remember Mother's Talk getting play (just saw that video recently).
But the REAL winner was their "comeback" hit, Sowing the Seeds of Love! Very Beatlesesque, right down to the Penny Lane like horns at the end.
I'll have to get the Greatest Hits for that!

Yeah I liked quite a few of their songs . I remember when Songs From The Big Chair first came out and seeing the video for Shout - It was a huge album for them. I also really liked Sowing The Seeds of Love - great 60's feel to it.

Definitely an eclectic sound. I loved Songs from the Big Chair and The Hurting. Sowing the Seeds of Love was really good too.
Unfortunately, around that time Roland Orzibal got too big for his britches and started thinking that he and he alone was responsible for the band's success. He got rid of Curtis Smith and replaced him with a lady whose name escapes me who had done great backup vocals for them.
My faves from them are : Pale Shelter, Mothers Talk, Everybody Wants to Rule the World, Head Over Heels, The Hurting, Shout and Sowing the Seeds of Love.

Tears for Fears was probably one of my favorite groups of the mid-to-late 80's. I loved their songs back in the day, and still do. But I agree with Sat that their best track was 'Sowing the Seeds of Love'. What a great song that is - easily in my top 10 favorites of the 80's!

My only slight disappointment was that the version of "Mothers Talk" is slightly different than the one on Songs From The Big Chair, but it's the same version found on their other GH offerings. It's the only one to offer my tie for favorite: "Break It Down Again" (tied with "Everybody Wants To Rule The World"). It was a later release, and received quite a bit of airplay around here and is an absolutely fabulous song!

Great group, but I really missed Curt when he left!
