Let's see... Helen Reddy--Nice, pleasant singer. Hardly ever considered her country, but she was big on easier AM stations in the 70's. Have her "Hits" album on vinyl. A fine actress in "Pete's Dragon", too. Faves: I am woman Angie baby Leave me alone (Ruby red dress) You and me against the world (I almost cry when I hear this--it almost sound like my own mom and myself back in the 70's!) Ain't no way to treat a lady Delta dawn Keep on singing Peaceful I don't know how to love him Candle on the water Emotion You're my world R.E.M.--I like a few songs, but I'm not with most of the Click here--LOVE "Out of time", DETEST "Automatic" with a PASSION! WAY too acoustic! Plus some good earlier ones too. Not surprisingly, played them a lot in college. Faves: Shiny happy people (Great co-vocal by Kate Pierson!) Losing my religion Stand The one I love It's the end of the world as we know it Radio song (VERY overlooked) Fall on me What's the Frequency Kenneth Orange crush Radio free Europe Pop song '89 E-bow the letter Can't get there from here Rockville Driver 8 Just a touch Half a world away so. central rain Finest worksong Belong How I had "Drive" hit #6 on my personal lists seems unbelievable to me. REO Speedwagon--Yeah! My fave today, just beating out Paul Revere. One of the 80's best rock bands, bar NONE--always love playing "Infidelity" and "Wheels..."!. Enjoy their earlier stuff as well--Gary Richrath is truly one of the unsung guitar heroes ever! Also love Neal Doughty's KILLER organ on some tunes! Except for "In my dreams", an absolute solid winner! Faves: (Long list!) Keep on loving you (eternally in my top 1000) Keep the fire burnin' (have this on 2 various artists compilations-how did this get left off their "Hits" album?) Take it on the run One lonely night Can't fight this feeling (Even though it was 1985's most overplayed song) Live every moment In your letter Tough guys (I'm sorry, Spanky) That ain't love (Their only GREAT post 1985 song) Roll with the changes (If released in 1981-85 instead of 1978, this would have DEFINITELY hit top 40) I do'wanna know Don't let him go Ridin' the storm out (both studio and live versions) Keep pushin' Gotta feel more Shakin' it loose Sweet time Only the strong survive Here with me Time for me to fly (above 2 are virtually identical) Wheels are turnin' Reelin' Back on the road again Follow my heart Live it up Rock 'n roll star Little queenie Variety tonight (They jumped the shark when this failed to hit top 40) Our time is gonna come I don't want to lose you Out of season Love is a rock Flying turkey trot Break his spell Lightning Like you do Thru the window Son of a poor man Good trouble Summer love Unidentified tuna trot Breakaway Lost in a dream Someone tonight (the only one from Infidelity I usually don't play) Say you love me or say goodnight Let's be-bop Music man Golden country 157 Riverside avenue Enough? ;D Paul Revere & the Raiders--Boy, did they ROCK in the 60's! Indeed, more of their hits should be played on radio, but I can play them on my computer anyway! At least it's their lesser known earlier tunes I copied. Don't know their 1968-1972 hits a bunch, save a few. And I saw them live around 1996, they've got it still! Faves: Kicks Just like me Hungry (1966 was their year!) Indian reservation Steppin' out Him or me... Good thing Louie Louie Ups and downs Mr. Sun, Mr. Moon Action Too much talk Louie go home Don't take it so hard The great airplane strike (strange intro) Peace of mind Birds of a feather We gotta all get together Let me (This is cacophony vs. their other catchy hit tunes) Charlie Rich--While I like most older country artists, this is not a fave of mine. Too much like a straight, ungimmicky singer like Roger Whittaker. You could have done Jim Reeves instead! ;D I do like his 2 earliest hits though. Faves: Mohair Sam (almost sounds like Chubby Checker with a twang!) Lonely weekends The most beautiful girl (passable, but clearly in my top 25 least liked #1's from 1940-1999) Helen DID have success on the country charts! I actually like Radio Song, despite the rapping in the middle. I've noticed certain songs get left off greatest hits, despite their success. Martina's It's My Time hit 11 on the country chart-HIGHER than Independence Day-and was left off. I've seen the Raiders countless times over the years and I agree, they are good still!

Red Hot Chili Peppers? Lou Reed? Helen Reddy--She had some pretty good songs, now that I think about it. I'd like to get a Greatest Hits CD sometime. R.E.M.--A favorite of mine. There's just something about Michael Stipe that I find appealing. Don't know why. I enjoy the group as a whole, too. Faves: Orange Crush, Radio Free Europe, End of the World, So. Central Rain THe One I Love, Daysleeper, Everybody Hurts (LOVE it), Bang and Blame, Man on the Moon, Stand, Shiny Happy People, Get Up, and on and on... REO--Love 'em. Saw them a few times in the '80's, and the last time in 2002. They still put on a great show. They were in concert here last night with Journey and Styx. Wish I woulda had tickets. Faves: Here With Me (Love it), Time for Me to Fly, Roll with the Changes, In Your Letter, Someone Tonight, Keep Pushin', Take it on the Run, Keep On Loving You, Don't Let Go, Shakin' it Loose, Ridin' the Storm Out, Golden Country (LOVE it), Out of Season, more... Paul Revere/Raiders--I'm not sure I know a whole lot of songs by them. The ones I do know I like very much. I'll have to check them out a little more thoroughly some day. Faves: Indian Reservation, Birds of a Feather, Hungry, Kicks, Just Like Me Charlie Rich--Don't much care about him one way or the other. He had some ok songs I suppose, but he's nobody I'd seek out. BTW--I was watching a documentary about John Denver not too long ago--sometime back in the 70's, John was up for a music award--Best Male Country Artist (not sure if it was the CMA's, or what). They showed the clip of Charlie Rich reading the nominees, and when he opened the envelope, and saw that John was the winner, he took out his lighter and set the card on fire. He obviously didn't agree that John should have won the award. LOL! John wasn't at the Awards show, but he was live via satellite from wherever he was, and he had no clue that Charlie Rich did that. John went on to thank "his friend" Charlie for presenting the award to him. Yeah, right. DAMN! See, when I don't have a current book with me, I forget good 90s acts! Lou Reed-EH, if I have to! I remember seeing/hearing about the Rich-Denver thing!

Never thought YOU would like REO!! Well, I looked at Charlie's output and realized I actually knew 2 songs! Actually 3 since I learned Behind Closed Doors during CMT's top 100 songs of country countdown. I'm a closeted REO fan. Shhhhhhhhhh! I figured you knew "Behind Closed Doors".... Oh, and I forgot to list a Helen Reddy song yesterday - I love "You & Me Against The World". So pretty....

Helen Reddy - All I know is Delta Dawn. But, I prefer another version...Bette Midler's. ;D Figures, huh?
R.E.M. - I like a few songs, but I've never been that into them. I love Losing My Religion. That's a great song. I like Everybody Hurts, but only when I'm in a certain mood. Man in the Moon is also pretty good, and I can tolerate Shiny Happy People (but only because Kate Pierson from the B-52s shares vocals).
REO Speedwagon - This is my uncle's favorite band and my mom's a fan too, so I know a few songs, but they're the ballads that you seem not to like. I enjoy Keep On Lovin' You and Can't Fight This Feeling Anymore, but I wouldn't be a greatest hits or anything. They're okay.
Paul Revere & the Raiders - Don't know any songs.
Charlie Rich - I know The Most Beautiful Girl in the World. And it's me!! Okay, sorry. That was my lame attempt at a joke for the day...

Ken, are you familiar with Keep Pushin' by REO? Wow, that's some list by the Raiders! I'll have to listen to those I don't know! Keep Pushin ' - Oh sure! I can't believe I forgot to include it!

Helen Reddy-*Aargh!* The thing I remember about her music is how my sister and her friends used to torment me by singing *a certain song* of hers...
Also, whenever I think of her I recall that one time a reporter on one of San Diego news stations was obviously quite upset (Seething is more like it) because Helen, singer of "I am Woman", couldn't respond to the reporter's questions because she was being rushed out of the place by....a MAN!!! (Her husband).
Paul Revere & the Raiders-Always one of my favorite groups. I always got a kick out of seeing them perform on "Where The Action Is". They were always VERY goofy and always made me laugh!
And then Mark just had to go and leave the group...
Anyway, they perform 2 songs (One is "Kicks", the other "Steppin' Out") on the Hullabaloo DVDs I own. ;D
My Faves are...Him or Me-What's it Gonna Be?, Hungry, Just Like Me, Kicks, Steppin' Out. Plus I like their versions of Louie Louie and (I'm not Your) Steppin' Stone
Charlie Rich-Nice enough voice but it kind of annoys me for whatever reason....

Dawn, did you know the singer in the current lineup of the Raiders was in Foxxy (Get Off)? Don't know if he was the actual LEAD singer, but he was in em! Hey, that's pretty cool - I hadn't known that!

Helen Reddy - I'm not a radical feminist - favorites: none
REM - great music to listen to when you're moody - Michael Stipe doesn't have the best voice, but I love their songs. Favorites: Orange Crush, It's The End Of The World As We Know It (And I Feel Fine), Losing My Religion, Everybody Hurts, This One Goes Out To The One I Love, Man On The Moon, Pop Song '89, Stand, Radio Free Europe
REO Speedwagon - I love them, and they don't get much respect or airplay save for 2 songs. Favorites: Keep The Fire Burnin', Keep On Loving You, Take It On The Run, IDoWannaNo (I think it was like that - it was on a tape I had), and I Can't Fight This Feeling
Paul Revere and the Raiders - I enjoy their music. Favorites: Kicks, Indian Reservation, and the jingle they did for the GTO commercials was mighty catchy
Charlie Rich - don't know much about him - only know Behind Closed Doors, and The Most Beautiful Girl In The World

Helen Reddy - Hard to choice between her, Olivia, & Anne Murray for country/pop artist. All had to compete with Karen Carpenter though. Helen was ok. Liked pretty much most of what she did. Favorites: Peaceful, Delta Dawn, Keep On Singing, Emotion, Ain't No Way to Treat a Lady.
R.E. M. - Sorry, don't like them
REO Speedwagon - Found the formula for top 10 hits in 1980, but were a great band long before that. Riding the Storm Out is one of the best live songs never to reach the charts. Better than some of the groups now considered classic rock. Favorites: Riding the Strom Out, Keep On Loving You, In Your Letter, Can't Fight the Feeling, Take it On the Run, Back on the Road Again.
Paul Revere & Raiders - Kinda of an unsong group of the 60s. Don't get the press of the more glamorous groups. Good songs though. Favorites: Kicks, Good Thing, Mr. Sun, Mr. Moon, Let Me, Indian Reservation
Charlie Rich - The Silver Fox. I liked him even back in the early 70s, after I graduated from high school. One of the few artists my mother & I ever agreed on. Great voice: Favorites: Most Beautiful Girl, Behind Closed Doors, Very Speical Love Song, My Ellusive Dreams, Since I Fell for You.

Oops. Skipped this one.
Helen Reddy- Like some of her songs. I thought that I Am Woman was W-A-Y overdone, even in it's day. And it's funny - she comes on like the champion for women's rights, and then sings songs like I Don't Know How To Love Him and Ain't No Way To Treat a Lady. Faves: Angie Baby, Leave Me Alone Ruby Red Dress, Ain't No Way To Treat a Lady, I Don't Know How To Love Him.
R.E.M.- Got into them a bit through my son, who went through an REM phase. I agree with Sat on Stipe's voice, but I basically put up with it. Faves: Losing My Religion - all time top 250 (for memories, not for being a great song), What's the Frequency Kenneth, Bang and Blame, Man on the Moon. REO Speedwagon- Really like several of their ballads. Faves: Keep On Lovin' You, Take It On The Run, Keep The Fire Burnin.
Paul Revere & the Raiders- Got their "break" as the house band for the TV show "Where The Action Is". I saw them (or what remained of them) in concert in Miami in 1976. Not bad at all, and thankfully, Mark Lindsey was gone by then. Faves: Him Or Me Whats It Gonna Be, Kicks, Hunger, Don't Take It So Hard, Good Thing, Just Like Me.
Charlie Rich- Only familiar with two songs: Behind Closed Doors which is OK, and The Most Beautiful Girl in the World, which is in my all time top 250.
