Continuing with the R's. Diana Ross-Can you say EGO?? It's almost as big as her hair was on that one Divas special! Lots of hits, but in my eyes, will never pass the Supremes. Faves-Theme From Mahogany, Love Hangover, Ain't No Mountain High Enough. David Lee Roth-It must just be EGO day around here!! Dave-when your career hits bottom, your albums are barely selling 500,000 and are playing Vegas, and your ex-bandmates ask to appear with them onstage, DON'T behave like an ass!!! His solo career will be remembered for his videos most likely. When he left VH, I tried to hate him, but I liked a few singles. Faves-Goin' Crazy!, Just Like Paradise, Yankee Rose. Roxette-CCR couldn't buy a number 1, and this group gets it 3 out of 5 tries. Then again, look at the competition of each era. Typical sound of the era, not QUITE as bad as the worst of the time, but I'm not investing in them. Faves-It Must Have Been Love, Listen to Your Heart, The Look. Roxy Music-Took me awhile, but I LOVE Love is the Drug! Sorta prog rock, but these guys are usually called Art Rock. MAY have had the best album cover of all time. (Guys, you may get the reference here. ) I hope the songs I list are all theirs and not Ferry solo! Faves-Love is the Drug, Avalon, More Than This. Billy Joe Royal-Small time 60s artist, sort of in the vein of Gene Pitney (if I have to make a comparison). Cherry Hill Park is one of many lesser hits I learned from my dad. Have yet to hear his version of Hush. Faves-Cherry Hill Park, Down in the Boondocks. And you?

Hey Adam:)
Diana Ross - She probably has THE biggest ego in all of pop music . I heard that before she goes on stage no one is allowed to make eye contact with Miss Ross( ? ?) a few of her solo hits were good but have to agree that the Supremes material was far superior.
Faves - Love Hangover , Theme from Mahogany
David Lee Roth - Diamond Dave!! I couldn't believe when I heard he was playing Vegas! I saw him on The Tonight Show around that time - it was just too weird!
I thought some of his solo hits were quite good and what a band! Billy Sheehan , Steve Vai and Greg Bissonette - WOW !!I have the Crazy From The Heat EP and Just Like Paradise on 45 and burned Yankee Rose onto CD. He has a new album out at the moment and from what I've read it's really good.
Faves - California Girls , Just Like Paradise and Yankee Rose
Roxette - Didn't mind a couple of their songs - although I don't own anything by them.I remember Marie Fredriksson was very ill a while back - I hope she's doing alright.
Faves - The Look , It Must Have Been Love
Roxy Music -They had some great covers didn't they? I'm actually more familiar with the cover art than their music - LOL . Loved More Than This when it came out (good track). I first heard Love is a Drug on a Ktel LP back in the mid 70's.I have Do The Strand on a compilation CD but haven't really listened to it.
Faves - More Than This , Love is The Drug and Avalon
Billy Joe Royal - You're not alone Adam - I still haven't heard his version of Hush either. Love Cherry Hill Park (I have it on both 45 and disc . Down in The Boondocks is great tune - It's the first one of his songs I heard.
Faves - Down In The Boondocks and Cherry Hill Park.

Diana Ross-What's that saying, "If you can't say anything good about someone, don't say anything" Well, I can't say anything good, OH! WAIT.... She looks good in a downpour!! LOL! Some of her hits were OK, Love Hangover, I'm Coming Out, Muscles, Upside Down, etc... David Lee Roth-I have mixed feelings about Diamond Dave. While I thought VH was WAY better with him, as a solo artist, he SUCKED!!! (Although his take on "California Girls" was decent). He's got an interesting sense of humor, though. Roxette-I have the first CD "Look Sharp". It's actually a very good album, though I haven't played it in AGES! Roxy Music-My fave today. Great albums, great cover art Better in the early years with Brian Eno.. I saw Bryan Ferry last November, he's great in concert! Yes, the songs you listed are all Roxy Music. Billy Joe Royal-Only know "Cherry Hill Park" and "Boondocks". I like "Cherry Hill Park" better.. Looks like I'll have to wait until Monday for Rush....

Diana Ross- Agree with you 100%, Sat. Her best stuff was with the Supremes, and my three faves are the exact same as yours. Reach Out and Touch Somebodys Hand is passable also. David Lee Roth- Not familiar with his solo stuff Roxette- Heard of them, but don't know their music. Roxy Music- Don't know them. Billy Joe Royal- Kinda liked his voice. You're right. There is a sorta Gene Pitney quality to it. Faves: I Knew You When (all time top 250), Down In The Boondocks, Cherry Hill Park. Rumor has it that Cherry Hill Park was named after an apartment complex in Atlanta that Billy reportedly lived in at one time (called Cherry Hill). I lived in the Cherry Hill apartments in Atlanta in 1975-6. Never met Billy though. OK. I'm outa here. See yall Tuesday.

That WAS some backup band Dave had! I remember Billy Sheehan being referred to as the Eddie Van Halen of bass guitar!

Diana Ross - I can't say I care for her "Diva" personality, but I've always enjoyed her music, both with the Supremes and as a solo artist. Favorites: Upside Down, Love Hangover, Touch Me in the Morning, Last Time I Saw Him, Theme from Mahogany, Gettin' Ready for Love, Muscles.
David Lee Roth - I love his work with Van Halen, but his solo work hasn't been as consistent. Still, he's a very dynamic performer, and some of his solo hits are catchy. Favorites: California Girls, Just a Gigolo/I Ain't Got Nobody.
Roxette - I never really got into them much, but as you say, their music wasn't too bad for its time. Favorite: Listen to Your Heart.
Roxy Music - I need to investigate their music more closely. I'm only familiar with 'Love is the Drug', which I've always thought sounded years ahead of its time - more 80's-like than 70's. Like Ken, I first heard it on a K-tel album - it was called Power House, I believe.
Billy Joe Royal - I've never heard his version of 'Hush' either, but I absolutely love 'Cherry Hill Park' - I remember I once bought a cassette just for that one song. 'Down in the Boondocks' is good, too.

Diana Ross--As my grandma used to say, "she sure has a case of the Big Head". LOL! Her songs are ok. I don't care much for her as a person. Pretty good actress, though. Was very good in "Lady Sings the Blues". As far as fave songs go, I used to love "Last Time I Saw Him". I had the 45, and played it all the time. And I'll never forget that, the first car accident I was ever involved in (just a fender bender), was when a guy ran a Yield sign, and ran into the passenger side door of my car. "Upside Down" was playing on my car radio. I guess you just remember stuff like that. LOL!
David Lee Roth--Loved him as the front man for Van Halen. His solo career started out ok, then as a person, he seemed to just get more and more bizarre. These days, he's just a little too weird for my tastes. I just read an awful review of his new album in some magazine. Only my opinion, but I think the guy has become a joke in recent years.
Roxette--I have one of their cd's, but haven't listened to it in forever. They did have some pleasant music. I enjoyed them when they were popular. As Ken said, Marie Fredrickson was ill with a brain tumor not too long ago. Last I heard, she was doing ok. Hope that's still the case.
Roxy Music--Never paid much attention to them. I do like Love is the Drug, and More Than This. Never investigated them any further.
Billy Joe Royal--Cherry Hill Park was kind of a risque song for the time, wasn't it? It's been a long time since I've heard it, but I do remember the line "Mary Hill was such a thrill after dark, in Cherry Hill Park". Anyway, I remember "borrowing" the 45 from my brother and thinking what a cool song it was. LOL! Oh, and I also like Down in the Boondocks. Don't think I know anything else by him.

Diana Ross - Loved the Supremes, Diana solo was only ok. Yea, her five #1s are hard to argue, but I still didn't like most of them. It seemed the longer she sang solo and the more successful her songs were, the less I liked her. Favorites: Touch Me in teh Morning, Ain't No Mountain High Enough
David Lee Roth - Should have stayed with Van Halen. Favorite: California Girls
Roxette - Heard Listen to Your Heart, but that's all I really recognize.
Roxy Music - These guys were pretty big in England, less known here in the states. I have a couple of albums of vinyl I picked up in England that are pretty good. Favorites: Dance Away, Love is a Drug.
Billy Joe Royal - Down in Boondocks & Cherry Hill Park are the only songs I like.

I NEVER would have known that if I didn't notice it in the Whitburn book! LOL!!

5 more great ones! Diana Ross--My fave today. I may actually like her solo work more than the Supremes (they get considerably more overplayed today than her solo). Took a long time for "Mahogany" to grow on me, but I've always LOVED her biggest upbeat tunes. Only long versions of her songs rock my world. DESPISE "Missing you", however. Faves: Love hangover (top 100, if not top 50) Upside down (top 200) Ain't no mountain high enough Touch me in the morning I'm coming out Mirror mirror Muscles Why do fools fall in love Swept away The boss (sometimes w/"No one gets the prize") Theme from Mahogany All of you (w/Julio) Endless love (w/Lionel) It's my turn Last time I saw him Pieces of ice Chain reaction Remember me Work that body Gettin' ready for love Eaten alive Reach out and touch somebody's hand Good morning heartache David Lee Roth--prefer him with VH as well, but I still liked his 3 EP/LP releases from the 80's a lot anyway. A most flamboyant and charismatic performer! Faves: Goin' crazy! (Woo hoo!) California girls Yankee rose Just like paradise A lil' ain't enough Just a gigolo/I ain't got nobody Stand up Tobacco road She's my machine Ladies' nite in Buffalo? Damn good Shyboy Big trouble That's life Sensible shoes Skyscraper Easy street Coconut grove It's showtime! Big train Hot dog and a shake Bump and grind Land's edge Hammerhead shark Slam dunk! Your filthy little mouth Roxette--This great Swedish duo seems to get VERY little respect today. They had a great pop/rock sound, and they fully deserved their success. Sold considerably more albums in Europe than America, though--Their 4th release (from '94) "Crash Boom Bang" failed to hit the US album chart. Hope to get a "hits" CD soon, and relive that nostalgic time when they ruled the world of that era when "cheesy dance music" peaked!!! May it never die! Stay Strong, Marie. Faves: The look (One of '89's best!) Joyride (They in fact had FOUR U.S. #1's--people often forget to list this one) Paint (LOVE it) Dangerous (one of their 2 #2 hits in addition to the #1's--GREAT rockin' sound!) Dressed for success It must have been love Fading like a flower Spending my time Sleeping in my car Listen to your heart (one of my lesser fave #1's of '89, but still good) How do you do! Church of your heart Shadow of a doubt Things will never be the same Almost unreal Half a woman, half a shadow Roxy Music--can't deny their influence on "art rock" music, but not a group I listen to much. As with Dawn, I only own "Love is the drug" on KTel's "Power House" LP. Never raved over "More than this" (and I HATE 10,000 Maniacs' version!). Faves: Love is the drug Dance away Avalon (rapidly becoming a top fave!) Do the strand Pyjamarama (part of the inspiration for Bananarama's name! ) Over you Virginia plain Angel eyes Billie Joe Royal--Well it looks like you'll need to pick up the 3-CD Sony compilation of 60's hits! There stands Billy Joe Royal's original version of Hush, and it's great! Kinda like Deep Purple doing it acoustically, with Billy's distinct voice. Not familiar with his minor hit "I've got to be somebody". But I LOVE the 4 I'm familiar with! Faves: Cherry Hill Park (One hit that doesn't QUITE sound typical to the 60's or 70's!) Down in the boondocks I knew you when (MUCH better than Linda Ronstadt's remake) Hush (No doubt about it, she looks so fine!) Check IM's! ssssssssss
