I'm gonna make this brief today.
Royal Guardsmen-Snoopy vs The Red Baron was basically the same as the Christmas song, no? Both nice novelties. Faves-Snoopy's Christmas, Snoopy vs The Red Baron.
Todd Rundgren-Good songwriter, often overlooked. I like his big hits, have a Rhino single disc collection. Thought I Saw the Light was a woman when I was younger. Faves-I Saw the Light, We Gotta Get You a Woman (released as Runt), Hello it's Me, Bang the Drum All Day.
Run DMC-I don't like rap, really at all, but if you are giving credit where it's due, for better or worse, they were a major force in getting it started. And that will get them in the Hall. I actually own the Aerosmith collaboration on 45. Fave-Walk This Way.
Rush-Hard rock/somewhat prog rock group. Canadian power trio. Don't know if the Hall will come a calling, but I'm sure they are a shoo in for the Canadian Hall, if they are not already there. Faves-Closer to the Heart (prefer the live version from Exit...), Red Barchetta, Limelight, Fly By Night, Anthem.
Leon Russell-Tightrope gets play here on the Timeless Rock station. My dad has the Lady Blue single, nice ballad. Appeared at the Concert for Bangledesh. Faves-Lady Blue, Tightrope.
And you?

Faves: Walk this way (top 750) Down with the king It's tricky Mary Mary (rap remake of the Monkees tune) Perfection It's like that (and that's the way it is!) Have a "Retrospective" CD of 1981-1987 tunes, one of my more played CD's! 30 years and still going strong! Faves (even longer list than Todd!): SUBDIVISIONS (WOOOO HOOO!!!!!!! I've almost NEVER heard any better keyboards!!!) Leon Russell--Fine songwriter, not a great singer. Only 2 top 40 hits, but had 9 top 40 albums, the biggest being the #2 "Carney". Might investigate further. Faves: Lady blue (pretty instrumentation) Tight rope Back to the island Queen of the roller derby A song for you This masquerade Stranger in a strange land Rainbow in your eyes Roll in my sweet baby's arms Shoot out on the plantation

Something goofed and my original post didn't show up so I'll try again. Royal Guardsmen - Fun novelty tunes. Found a copy of Snoopy vs The Red Baron on 45 back in the early 80's . Snoopy's Xmas also gets played many times during the holiday season. Yeah their songs all have a similiar sound but it's all good. Faves - Snoopy's Xmas and Snoopy vs The Red Baron. Todd Rundgren - Fantastic songwriter , great producer as well- Meatloaf , Badfinger and Grand Funk etc Remember hearing and loving I Saw The Light and Hello it's Me when I was little- also love his work with Utopia and The Nazz - I have all 3 albums on CD - Open My Eyes - what a great piece of 60's rock. So many faves - We Gotta Get You a Woman I Saw The Light It Wouldn't Have Made any Difference Bang The Drum All Day Hello It's Me Good Vibrations A Dream Goes On Forever Love of The Common Man Black and White Couldn't I Just Tell You Wolfman Jack The Last Time (Utopia) Set Me Free (Utopia) Feet Don't Fail Me Now (Utopia) I Just Want To Touch You ( Utopia) Take it Home (Utopia) That's Not Right (Utopia) Cry Baby (Utopia) Run DMC - I just never got into them . Although I do have their version of Walk This Way on a Time / Life CD compilation. Faves - none Rush - I knew guys in high school who were BIG fans - I remember talking with a few the day after a concert in band class and them telling me about Neil's drum solo and how mind blowing it was which I could imagine. I like quite a few of their songs - I bought the 45 of Closer To The Heart back in '77 .I've burned a few onto disc and the rest are included on various mix tapes. Faves - In The Mood - my #1 Fave , Fly By Night - another great track, Spirit of Radio , Time Stands Still , Distant Early Warning , Closer To The Heart , Limelight , Red Sector A and New World Man Leon Russell - At one time Tightrope was played regularly here but haven't heard it in a long time . He also played piano on Badfinger's Day After Day. Faves - Tightrope

Gotta keep my comments brief today. I'm swamped with projects. Royal Guardsmen : I haven't heard any of their music. Todd Rundgren : Like his early 70's output the best. Nice adult contemporary sound. Favorites = I Saw the Light, Hello It's Me Run DMC : They brought rap from the inner city ghetto to suburban middle America. Influential, innovative and kept their language clean and their storylines positive and free from sexual innuendo (unheard of in todays rap). R.I.P. Jam Master Jay. Favorites include: Hard Times It's Like That Rock Box Sucker MCs King of Rock You Be Illin' It's Tricky Walk This Way Rush : I absolutely HATE this band's music. Just cannot stand it. Why I don't know. It's a combination of Geddy Lee's voice and the guitar playing. Mostly Geddy Lee's voice...like fingernails on a chalkboard to me. No favorites Leon Russell : I haven't really listened to any of his music so can't give an opinion.

Great line-up today! One of the best I've seen in awhile!
Royal Guardsmen-The Snoopy hits were "cute", but their 1969 hit, "Baby Let's Wait"... LOVE IT!! I did not know it was 2 years old when it became a hit (These days, something like that wouldn't matter, but back then two years was a LONG time for a record to break!)
Todd Rundgren-I am a HUGE fan of Todd, going way back to the Nazz. The first two Nazz albums are incredible, especially the second! Solo, I have a single disc collection, but will eventually get the double disc. I've heard bits and pieces of Utopia here and there, and I like what I've heard. I don't think Todd has ever dissapointed me! He also produced everybody from Grand Funk to Meat Loaf to Cheap Trick to XTC to the Psychedelic Furs.. Now THERE'S diversity!!
Run-DMC-I'll probably ruin my reputation, but I like them. I'm no fan of rap/hip hop, but there's something about the early rap groups that are head and shoulders above the rest. Plus they brought rock into the mix, which helped to break down racial barriers. I don't own anything by them, though.
Rush-My fave today! I was a big fan in high school, but I stopped listening to them until this past spring. All of a sudden, I got into them all over again, and went out and bought all the CD's (I now have all except "Test For Echo", "Vapor Trails", and the live albums). OK, I see an album by album synopsis coming up:
Rush (1974)-Debut album, and the only one not to feature Neil Peart. John Rutsey played drums on this. I read an interview with him recently, and talk about a bitter "would've been" rock star!! He was a decent enough drummer, but I can tell that if Peart didn't come along, they probably never would have gotten past three albums. Geddy and Alex wrote the lyrics for most of this album, it's no wonder Peart took over those duties on subsequent albums! YEEESH! Best tracks: Finding My Way, In The Mood, Before and After, Working Man, Need Some Love (may be their only tune with the word "love" in the title).
Fly By Night (1975)-Peart came aboard and the band now had direction! Not yet going in a progressive direction, and still a very straightforward rock band. Of course, the title track has been an FM rock radio staple for many years. Best tracks: Anthem, In The End, Fly By Night, Making Memories, Beneath, Between & Behind. Worst song: Rivendell (probably the worst song in their entire catalog, it just never ENDS!!)
Caress Of Steel (1975)-My favorite of the first 4 albums. Their first forray into prog, contains the side long piece "The Fountain Of Lamneth". You get a vibe from listening to this album that they were touring relentlessly, sleeping on old matresses in the van with their equipment, living on bologna sandwiches, and not knowing that their next album would be the one to break them! I guess that's why I like this album so much. Faves: Baccus Plateau, Bastille Day, Panacea, In The Valley, No One At The Bridge, Lakeside Park.
2112 (1976)-The album that got them out of the old van and into a tour bus! I'm a little burned out on the side-long epic, but the 5 songs on side 2 are flawless! Best Songs: A Passage To Bangkok, The Twilight Zone, Lessons, Tears, Something For Nothing, 2112 medley (the whole album, basically!)
A Farewell To Kings (1977)-This was the only early album by them that I never owned until last April. So I still don't know it as well as the others, but their progressive phase was in full swing! And of course, it's the album with "Closer To The Heart", which I don't think they've EVER dropped from their live shows. Best songs: Closer To The Heart, Xanadu, Cinderella Man, Cygnus XI
Hemispheres (1978)-This album was the peak, and the end, of their progressive era. You have to either be a musician or insane to appreciate it. Since I am both, I love it! Alex is playing chords that are not even on the map, like 11th and 13th chords! He really proves himself as a virtuoso on this album, they all do, really, but Alex tends to stand out! Best Songs: Circumstaces, Cygnus XI Book 2, La Villa Strangiato
Permanent Waves (1980)-No more side-long epics, the focus now was on shorter songs, even though this album only has six tracks. This is the last album to have Geddy singing in his high falsetto "granny voice", on "Freewill". Also, keyboards started creeping in around this time, they would dominate their sound throughout the 80's. Best songs: Freewill, Spirit Of Radio, Different Strings, Jacobs Ladder, Entre Nous, Natural Science (again, the whole album!)
Moving Pictures (1981)-Their most successful album, ever! If they weren't houshold names yet, they were now! Sold millions, and re-invented their sound. Best songs: Limelight, Tom Sawyer, YYZ, Witch Hunt, Vital Signs, Red Barchetta.
Signals (1982)-A very New Wave influenced album, I was told recently that when they were doing this album, their favorite band was Ultravox! But they weren't trying to sound New Wave, they just sounded like Rush.. Hard to believe that their only top-40 hit is on this album, and it's not even CLOSE to their most popular song! Best songs: Subdivisions, Losing It, Chemistry, The Analog Kid, The Weapon, New World Man.
Grace Under Pressure (1984)-My personal favorite Rush album, and the first album I owned by them. Keyboards now dominated their sound, but they still had a sound like nobody else! Best songs: AFTERIMAGE (my FAVORITE Rush song!!), Kid Gloves, Red Sector A, Between The Wheels, Distant Early Warning.
Power Windows (1985)-My least favorite 80's Rush album. Not that it's bad, but I just like the others better.. Best songs: Mystic Rhythms, Big Money, Emotion Detector, Grand Designs, Marathon.
Hold Your Fire (1987)-This was the last album I got into before I stopped following them. I didn't care much for it at the time, but 15 years later, it's really grown on me! Best songs: Time Stand Still, Force Ten, Open Secrets, Prime Mover, Lock and Key, Turn The Page.
Presto (1989)-Great album, I just heard this recently for the first time, and I LOVE it! First album for a new label, after years with Mercury, they swiched to Atlantic with this album, yet "Show Don't Tell" also appears on the Mercury collection "Chronicles". They also started to bring back a more guitar dominated sound with this album. Best songs: The Pass, Chain Lightning, Scars, War Paint, Superconductor, Show Don't Tell.
I have "Roll The Bones" and "Counterparts, but I haven't listened to them enough to really form an opinion, so I'm going to skip them. I do like them, though!
Leon Russell-I don't know much about him, except that he worked on Gary Lewis records in the 60's with Snuff Garrett, and did a lot of session work in the 70's. His wife was HOT!!

Gackkk! I'm so far behind on my "list" replies. I have 3 days worth of posts to do today. My time manangement has sucked lately. Royal Guardsmen - Who? Oh! The Snoopy music people...ahem. I guess the Snoopy Christmas song is cool. Todd Rundgren - Love him! He's way underappreciated IMO. I developed a love of his stuff through my mom who is a huge fan. I have the Something/Anything? album and the Rhino GH collection plus a few of his more obscure albums. Great songwriter and producer too. Faves: Hello It's Me, I Saw The Light, We Gotta Get You A Woman, Bang On The Drum All Day, Dream Goes On Forever, Can We Still Be Friends, Couldn't I Just Tell You, Something To Fall Back On Run DMC - I used to listen to them more than I certainly do now, but they are legends. RIP Jam Master J Faves: It's Tricky, Beats To The Rhyme, Walk This Way, My Adidas Rush - Hate them! Geddy Lee has one of the most annoying voices in rock. There's just nothing about them except maybe their drummer (Neil Purt?) that I can say anything good about. Faves - NONE Leon Russell - Amazing song writer. Some of my favorites songs of all time were written by Russell but made hits by other people. I like his voice too and his piano playing. Like Randy Newman, he's never gotten the respect that he deserves. My dad's a big fan so I grew up with his stuff on the stereo. Gotta love the hair and beard! Especially now that it's all white - he's like hippie Santa! ;D Faves: A Song For You, Delta Lady, This Masquerade, Stranger In A Strange Land, Hummingbird, Manhattan Island Serenade, Out In The Woods

Royal Guardsmen - I only know the "Snoopy" hits, and have 'Snoopy vs. the Red Baron' on 45. Both are good novelty songs.
Todd Rundgren - This is an artist I definitely want to investigate in more depth. I've liked pretty much everything I've ever heard of his. Favorites: Hello It's Me (lots of memories associated with that one), I Saw the Light (very Harrison-esque), We Gotta Get You a Woman, Can We Still Be Friends, Real Man, Set Me Free (with Utopia).
Run DMC - I've never really gotten into their music. 'Walk This Way' was okay, I guess, but I much prefer the original.
Rush - Like Ken, I knew some people in high school who were big fans of this group. I didn't really become familiar with them myself until fairly recently, and still don't know a lot of their music, but what I've heard is mostly good. Favorites: Tom Sawyer, New World Man.
Leon Russell - Wonderful songwriter, but as Kitty mentioned, he's never really received the credit he deserves. Favorites: Tightrope, Lady Blue, A Song for You.

Royal Guardsmen--Haven't thought about them for years, but when I was a kid, their music was played in our house all the time. Very fun, pleasant songs. Todd Rundgren--Not bad. I don't have anything by him (well, a couple of 45's), but I'd like to look into a CD sometime. I have a stuffed gorilla that is holding a drum, and when you press his foot, he pounds the drum, and sings "Bang the Drum All Day" complete with a few "Grr's" thrown in. It's quite funny to watch. ;D Run DMC--I kinda liked them when they were first getting started, but then I sorta lost interest in that type of music. Definitely paved the way for subsequent rap artists. Whether that's a good thing...I dunno. Rush-I avoid this group whenever possible. I really don't like Geddy Lee's voice, although I will admit to liking "Fly By Night". Anything else by them I will turn off immediately if it comes on the radio. Leon Russell--Know him mainly as a songwriter, but I do have an album of his. When I was going through my LP's the other day, looking for something else, I stumbled upon that one. Didn't know I owned anything by him. LOL!

OK. Gotta do a day of catch up.
Royal Guardsmen- If you say Royal Guardsmen, you get a mind-picture of Snoopy. Nevertheless, my fave by them is Baby Let's Wait. I do like Snoopy vs the Red Baron and the Return of the Red Baron, also, however.
Todd Rundgren- Definitely underappreciated talent. We Gotta Get You A Woman is a great song (may be on my next top 250). Also like I Saw The Light (Dawn is absolutely right about the Harrison similarities, I had never thought of that before) and Hello It's Me - both his solo version and the Nazz version (for which, I believe, he played guitar, but did not sing lead.)
Run DMC- I don't like (c)rap either. I suppose this group was better than most, but I really don't care. Faves: none. - sorry to hear that their DJ died, though.
Rush- Always put this group with BTO and the Guess Who as '70s Canadian rock -- and I like the other two groups better. That's not to say that these guys are bad. Far from it. Faves: Closer to the Heart, New World Man
Leon Russell-Only know two songs by him- Lady Blue and Tightrope. Like them both.

Royal Guardsmen - Except for the Snoopy songs, which are two real fun songs, don't know their other two top 40s.
Todd Rundgren - Probably better know as a producer than a top 40 artist. Those he did chart were good songs though. Favorites: We Gotta Get You a Woman, I Saw the Light, Hello It's Me
Run DMC - The only rap I own is by these guys. Bought the record off the clearance rack only because of "Walk This Way"
Rush - Good hard rock band. Don't know much about them, didn't like them when they first came out, only really know a few songs. Favorites: Tom Sawyer, New World Man, Working Man, Closer to the Heart.
Leon Russell - Has the kind of voice I can only take in short burst, but seemed to be one of those artists that you had to listen to and have an album or two by. A better songwriter than singer. I think he's done something for and/or with just about everybody (Badfinger, Joe C*cker, Willie Nelson, etc.). Deserves much more credit than he gets, like maybe a place in the Rockhall. Favorites: Lady Blue, Tightrope, A Song for You, Delta Lady, Bluebird, This Masquarade. BTW: His self-titled 2nd album released in 1970 and re-released in 1995 featured a who's who of rock musicians playing backup, including Ringo Starr, George Harrison, Charlies Watts, Bill Wyman, Mick Jagger, Eric Clapton, Steve Winwood, Delaney & Bonnie, & Klaus Voorman. Would have been special to have sat in on those recording sessions.
