Well another crappy day, but I'll write a bit more today. Sam & Dave-Legendary sould duo. So weird to think that I Thank You, which gets limited play these days went higher on the charts than Hold On, I'm A Comin'-and that the latter didn't crack the top 20!  In the Hall. Faves-Hold On, I'm A Comin', Soul Man, I Thank You. Sam the Sham & the Pharoahs-Sortof comedy rock. Surprised Ring Dang Doo didn't go higher than 33, I remember it well from my youth. They also did a spoof of In Crowd called I'm in With the Out Crowd. Funny. Faves-Ring Dang Doo, Lil' Red Riding Hood, Wooly Bully. Santana-Either love the songs or hate em. The typical classic rock stuff, I am SO sick of (Black Magic Woman, Evil Ways, etc). I kept waiting for them/him to go into the Hall, and they finally did. They brought Latino music in Rock to the forefront. Had a variety of singers through the years, including Greg Rolie, later of Journey. Also 16 year old Neal Schon on second guitar. Faves-All I Ever Wanted, Everything is Coming Our Way, Everybody's Everything, Open Invitation, Winning. Leo Sayer-Not the manliest artist to listen to, but I like his stuff. May even want to pick up his Rhino collection. Plus he wrote one of my favorite Three Dog Night tunes, The Show Must Go On. You NEVER hear about this guy anymore, do you? Sort of a Richard Simmons look alike. Faves-Long Tall Glasses (I Can Dance), You Make Me Feel Like Dancing, When I Need You, More Than I Can Say. Boz Scaggs-Another appearance of a non-compilation album we owned growing up. We had Silk Degrees. Always remember that from my youth. Boz was SO 70's. Lowdown just reeks of the 70's. But it does not reek. Love the stuff I know by him. I believe I have the album on vinyl now, and I know I have his greatest hits on cassette. Faves-Lido Shuffle, Lowdown, Look What You've Done to Me, We're All Alone (Rita's cover was better though). You? |

Sam and Dave - Love them! I have a few 45's ,and a couple of tunes on CD and cassette . Fantastic 60's R +B
Faves - I Thank You( I also like ZZ Top's version) , Hold On I'm a Comin' , Soul Sister , Brown Sugar,You Don't Know Like I Know and Soul Man.
Sam The Sham and The Pharoahs - We had the 45 of The Hair of My Chinny Chin Chin in the house when I was a kid although it's been ages since I've heard it. Still get a kick out of listening to Wooly Bully and Lil' Red Riding Hood - I bought a reissue 45 that had both tunes back in High School.
Faves - Wooly Bully and Lil Red Riding Hood
Santana - I have the second and third album on CD - a few 45's and a few tunes on cassette. Love the Woodstock footage of Soul Sacrifice - Michael Shrieve what a great drummer! love Neil's guitar playing on those albums

Leo Sayer - His stuff is nice to listen to once in a while. I heard When I Need You alot "back in the day" . Three Dog Night did such a great job with The Show Must Go On.
I have Long Tall Glasses on CD . I've mentioned before that a band called Shooter had the hit here in Canada. I'm sure that Leo's version was popular here as well but Shooter's version is the one I heard first. We had the 45 in the house. He does remind me of Richard Simmons with that afro LOL!

Boz Scaggs - A very popular album in my house had it on both vinyl and 8 - track a buddy's sister had a copy as well ,. Picked mine up a few years ago for a dollar Woo hoo! I also love Rita's cover of We're All Alone - so good.
Faves - Lido Shuffle , What Can I Say , Lowdown , Look What You've Done to Me( also on the Urban Cowboy soundtrack if I remember correctly?) and Breakdown Dead Ahead.

One of my top 50 artists listed today. Sam & Dave - Soul legends. Although I have to say that "Soul Man" is definitely overplayed. Faves: Hold On I'm Comin', I Can't Stand Up For Fallin' Down, Wrap It Up, Everybody's Got To Believe In Somebody, You Don't Know Like I Know Sam The Sham etc. - I only know "Wooly Bully" and it's not my cup o' tea. Santana - Most of their stuff is so overplayed, but they must have sounded amazing and fresh when they first came out. Deserving legends. Of course I love Neal's second-fiddle guitar work and Greg's voice. Faves: Oye Como Va (when I was little I thought the words were "see the comb I bought" - sing it fast with the tune and it works), Hope You're Feeling Better, Evil Ways Leo Sayer - I don't know who should be more insulted by your comparison - Leo or Richard?  I love Sayer's music. I have a greatest hits collection of his that rarely leaves my car. Faves: More Than I Can Say (first song I learned on my own on piano!), When I Need You, You Make Me Feel Like Dancing (anyone remember Leo singing this on The Muppet Show?), Show Must Go On, Moonlighting, Giving It All Away Boz Scaggs - How much do I love this guy?!  Not only was his music a HUGE part of my childhood and therefore wrapped in the kind of nostalgia that makes you constantly smile, as an adult I discovered his newer stuff and love that just as much. Everyone should own a copy of Silk Degrees, EVERYONE. His voice is totally interesting and although there are people that have covered his songs better (Rita Coolidge), I really dig his voice a lot. He put out a standards album a few years ago and I was skeptical that his voice would sound good with those old songs but boy is that a brilliant album! Not too much to say again today, not a bad list, but nobody I'm a huge fan of...
Sam & Dave-Their originals are better than The Blues Brothers covers. I know the three top 40's, their all good, especially "Hold On....." That intro just ROCKS!
Sam The Sham & The Pharoahs-60's party rock. I only really know Wooly Bully and Lil' Red Riding Hood, not really high on my 60's faves list..
Santana-I always loved the first album, with the classic "Lion" cover. We had it when I was a kid, and I thought it was scary looking. Then I was even more freaked out when my mom pointed out the hidden "faces" in the lion picture. Some great 60's jamming with that GREAT Hammond organ sound. I'm glad to see he's big again, even though "Smooth" did get a little overplayed in the summer of '99. I can tolerate the song now..
Leo Sayer-Yeah, he does kinda look like Richard Simmons, but then again, SO many guys looked like that in the late 70's... His hits were good.
Boz Scaggs-I have the "Silk Degrees" CD and the Greatest Hits CD. His voice is an acquired taste, but I like it. I heard a rumor at one time that the Who was going to fire Roger Daltrey and replace him with Boz Scaggs.. I don't know if there's any truth to it, but I can't imagine what THAT would've sounded like.. Townshend doing the Windmill to "Lido Shuffle"??

Santana--ahhh, one of the rock era's best guitists! Man does he have longevity! His first top 10 hit, he rubbed elbows in the top ten with the likes of the Beatles, Simon & Garfunkel, the Jaggerz and Edison Lighthouse, and most recently he's been in the crowd with the likes of Matchbox 20, Michelle Branch and Christina! THAT's a long time. I'll have to admit with his newest song--who on EARTH is Alex Band? Anyway, so many rock classics I love, I couldn't possibly put down a complete list. Have the 1998 Sony compilation, as well as 1999's deserved Grammy winner "Supernatural". What a legendary Latin guitarist, I don't he sang on too many of his hits!

Sam & Dave - Wonderful soul duo. I just recently heard their version of 'Wrap It Up' for the first time, and it's great! Favorites" Hold On I'm a Comin', I Thank You, Soul Man, Wrap It Up.
Sam the Sham & the Pharoahs - My knowledge of them is pretty much limited to their two big hits, which are both good. I remember doing a routine to 'Woolly Bully' as part of our school's gym show in 7th grade.
Santana - Legendary guitarist. He's been in the music scene for many years, and still has the touch. So many of his songs are classics. Favorites: Hold On (Love it - in my top 20 80's songs), Evil Ways, Everything Is Coming Our Way, She's Not There, Winning, Smooth, Game of Love (one of VERY few post 2000 songs I like!)
Leo Sayer - I loved listening to his music back in the 70's when I was growing up. Good singer and songwriter. Wonder whatever became of him? Favorites: You Make Me Feel Like Dancing, When I Need You, Long Tall Glasses, Easy to Love, Thunder in My Heart, More Than I Can Say, How Much Love.
Boz Scaggs - Very talented musician. Silk Degrees is an outstanding album, and I also love his material from the early 80's. I have his Hits! on cassette, but I'd love to see a more complete anthology someday. Favorites: JoJo (another top 80's song!), Lowdown, Lido Shuffle, What Can I Say, It's Over, Breakdown Dead Ahead, Look What You've Done to Me, Miss Sun.

Sam & Dave--My husband was a big fan, so I heard them a lot while he and I were dating. I don't mind listening to them once in awhile. Good stuff!
Sam the Sham/Pharoahs--Not somebody I'd listen to on a regular basis, but their songs were pretty fun.
Santana--Never really liked him/them when I was growing up, but I've since come to appreciate the music. The new one, "Game of Love", is very good. I enjoy it. BTW--my friend Mary was in Indianapolis a couple of years ago, and she said she got on an elevator, and there were 2 guys already on it who were elaborately dressed, and looked kinda out of place in the hotel where she was. She struck up a brief conversation with the guys, who said they were members of Santana, and were playing a concert later on that night. And here's how paranoid my friend Mary is: She didn't believe them! LOL! She said she got a little nervous, and got off the elevator as quickly as she could, and when she told her husband about it later, he told her that Santana was indeed playing a concert that night, and it probably was two guys from the band. So she missed her chance at having a real conversation with them, and maybe some autographs, or even tickets to the show! Oh well...if you knew Mary, you'd know that's about how goofy she is. LOL!
Leo Sayer--Had some good songs. I enjoyed listening to him way back when. Incidentally, I was watching some tv show not too long ago--wish I could remember what it was--and somebody was interviewing Leo. I think it was on Comedy Central, cuz it was some sort of a parody type thing. The interviewer was stopping people in the street, asking if they knew who "this person" was. Nobody did. Even when the people were told it was Leo Sayer, most of them said they never heard of him. LOL! Anyway, at least he's still alive and kicking. In relative obscurity, apparantly. ;D
Boz Scaggs--Really, really, really, like him. I don't think there's a bad song in the bunch. I have the "Hits" album on CD, and I find myself listening to it quite a bit. Never seem to get tired of him.

Santana - I really like some of the more recent collaborations he's done, but I don't much care for the whole band. Just Carlos. And he's only fair, in my opinion. Just not my style, that's all.
Leo Sayer - Good voice. He looks like Richard Simmons? Poor guy. Faves - You Make Me Feel Like Dancin', When I Need You (prefer Celine Dion's version, though).
Boz Scaggs - Don't care for him.

OK. This is the third time I'm trying to answer this post. Yesterday, twice I tried to close a %^$%$&*$^% popup, and wound up closing the main screen instead, losing the nearly completed post.  New day, new attempt. Sam and Dave - Only familiar with the three songs: Hold On I'm Coming, Soul Man, I Thank You. I like em all, but there is a bit of sameness to them. I have Hold On I'm Coming on one of my "Never Made the Top 20" cds -- songs that you'd swear HAD made the top 20, but didn't. Sam The Sham and the Pharaohs - Love Li'l Red Riding Hood. All time top 250. Great use of subject matter. Awooo! ;D Don't see what all the hype was about Wooly Bully, though. It's OK, but not THAT good, IMO. Other faves: Oh That's Good No Thats Bad, How Do You Catch A Girl, Ring Dang Doo. Santana - Never been a real fan, although he certainly has talent. Only fave is Black Magic Woman: Leo Sayer - Agree about the Richard Simmons similarities. But he's got one song that I love: When I Need You - all time top 100. Long Tall Glasses and You Make Me Feel Like Dancing are OK. Don't care for his cover of More Than I Can Say. Prefer the Crickets and Bobby Vee versions. Boz Scaggs - It took me a while to realize that this was a guy's name - not the name of a band.  Good sound. My fave is Look What You've Done For Me. Also like Lido Shuffle, Breakdown Dead Ahead, Miss Sun, and Lowdown. Now! Quick let me click on the Post button before this crashes. |

Sam and Dave - great soul songs. Favorites: Soul Man, Hold On, I'm Comin (can't hear this one anymore without thinking "I bet these cops have got SCMODS" and "You want out of this parking lot? OK", I Thank You, Soothe Me, and they did a great cover of Sweet Soul Music
Sam The Sham - one of my dad's favorites. Passable: Little Red Riding Hood (one of my husband's favorites) and Wooly Bully
Santana - I agree w/SAT - no inbetween on these guys. Ones I'm not sick of: Winning, Oye Como Va, Hold On
Leo Sayer - he's ok. Favorites: More Than I Can Say, You Make Me Feel Like Dancin', When I Need You

I only really know Wooly Bully and Lil' Red Riding Hood, not really high on my 60's faves list.. Santana-I always loved the first album, with the classic "Lion" cover. We had it when I was a kid, and I thought it was scary looking. Then I was even more freaked out when my mom pointed out the hidden "faces" in the lion picture. Some great 60's jamming with that GREAT Hammond organ sound. I'm glad to see he's big again, even though "Smooth" did get a little overplayed in the summer of '99. I can tolerate the song now.. Leo Sayer-Yeah, he does kinda look like Richard Simmons, but then again, SO many guys looked like that in the late 70's... His hits were good. Boz Scaggs-I have the "Silk Degrees" CD and the Greatest Hits CD. His voice is an acquired taste, but I like it. I heard a rumor at one time that the Who was going to fire Roger Daltrey and replace him with Boz Scaggs.. I don't know if there's any truth to it, but I can't imagine what THAT would've sounded like.. Townshend doing the Windmill to "Lido Shuffle"?? How about Boz doing the scream in Won't Get Fooled Again?? |

I love Sayer's music. I have a greatest hits collection of his that rarely leaves my car. Faves: More Than I Can Say (first song I learned on my own on piano!), When I Need You, You Make Me Feel Like Dancing (anyone remember Leo singing this on The Muppet Show?), Show Must Go On, Moonlighting, Giving It All Away
Not only was his music a HUGE part of my childhood and therefore wrapped in the kind of nostalgia that makes you constantly smile, as an adult I discovered his newer stuff and love that just as much. Everyone should own a copy of Silk Degrees, EVERYONE. His voice is totally interesting and although there are people that have covered his songs better (Rita Coolidge), I really dig his voice a lot. He put out a standards album a few years ago and I was skeptical that his voice would sound good with those old songs but boy is that a brilliant album! 
Good sound. My fave is Look What You've Done For Me. Also like Lido Shuffle, Breakdown Dead Ahead, Miss Sun, and Lowdown.
