Great, mostly of a light variety ('cept the Scorpions!).
Savage Garden--Part of the last breed of good curent music (as it was 1997-2000). Top 40 music of today now wouldn't DARE touch this, and if any like groups are out today with this type of good stuff, it would go to either AC, Hot AC, or AAA (easy listening, adult top 40, and adult alternative to the layman). Absolutely LOVED "I want you" on initial impact, and in the last year of GREAT music, it was in a TOUGH field of my top 10 songs of the year. Their ballads are good too, never tire of them if music channels are playing them. Not really Air Supply, not quite LRB for Aussie acts. Darren Hayes (the lead) had a good solo album out last year as well. Have their first 3 cassingles (Truly Madly Deeply was limited), as well as the "Affirmation" CD. Quite sad hearing of their breakup a couple years ago--they could've gone even farther.
Faves:
I want you (Doing an updated list today, easy top 200)
Truly madly deeply
To the moon and back
The animal song (Sorry Railyn)
I knew I loved you
Crash and burn
Tears of pearls
Affirmation
Two beds and a coffee machine
Break me shake me
Chained to you
Promises
Scorpions--even Klaus has a weird SPEAKING voice! (believe me, no offense to English-speaking Germans) Good quality heavy hitting rock, Rudolf is one KILLER guitarist! One group, however, I've never raved over their ballads as much.
Faves:
Rock you like a hurricane
No one like you
Rhythm of love
Big city nights
Tease me please me
Blackout
I can't explain
Bad boys running wild
The zoo
Animal magnetism
Hit between the eyes
We let it rock, you let it roll
Crazy world
Dynamite
Virgin killer
Holiday
Coast to coast
Make it real
Lovedrive
Wind of change (I do like the message of the song anyway)
Catch your train
Hell cat
Speedy's coming
Can't get enough
Backstage queen
Lust or love
You give me all I need
Ship of fools
Can't live without you
Still loving you
Loving you Sunday morning
Crying days
Pictured life
Another piece of meat
Send me an angel (almost didn't want to list this)
Seal--I'm quite sure this Nigerian born Brit still records, but VERY sporadically (albums in 1991, 1994, 1998, and 2002 so far). Very pleasant, distinct voice, "Rose" desrved to win its Grammys--one of the 90's nicest ballads. And I've always LOVED "Crazy" from Day 1.
Faves:
Crazy (GREAT mellow "euro" sound)
Kiss from a rose (one of the biggest hits to feature an...OBOE!)
Prayer for the dying (quite Floyd-ish)
The beginning
Don't cry
Newborn friend
I'm alive
Killer
Human beings
If I could
Wild
State of grace
Seals & Crofts--YES! My fave today! I could hear all their hits over and over again and never tire of them. Indeed, Rhino should get wind of a compilation (have Firefall, Bread, America, et al)! "You're the love" is simply one of the most perfect songs EVER recorded! I guess the Seals family is a great musical family! (Jim Seals is a brother of England Dan, plus 3 cousins are good country singers)
Faves:
Summer breeze (now you know why I LOVE "kiddie" pianos!) (eternal top 1000)
You're the love (that break sounds VERY disco!)
Get closer (fine vocal backing by the Honey Cone's Carolyn Wills)
Hummingbird (I cry at the ending)
We may never pass this way again (I have goosebumps just TYPING it!)
Diamond girl (SHOO DA SHA! As I said at age 4)
I'll play for you
East of Ginger trees
My fair share
King of nothing
Unborn child
Advance guards
Ruby Jean and Billie Lee
Castles in the sand
Takin' it easy
Baby I'll give it to you
Goodbye old buddies
The Euphrates
Tin town
'Cause you love
Sudan village
Yellow dirt
Hand me down shoe
Ridin' thumb
Granny will your dog bite
Cotton mouth
Hollow reed
Searchers--no-nonsense British invasion music, but many tunes were remakes (still good tho!). Rhino's Britixh Invasion series could have used even more of their songs (Might get the Rhino compilation soon).
Faves:
Love potion #9 (great drumming)
Needles ands pins (uh!)
Don't throw your love away
Sugar and spice (Not quite as good as the Cryan' Shames remake)
Bumble bee
When you walk in the room
Ain't that just like me
What have they done to the rain
He's got no love
Goodbye my lover goodbye
