Ok, so did you see the skit I was talking about on SNL, Kiddie Metal? Yep. And Adam Sandler was playing Axl Rose? That the same skit you were talking about?

Gee, I totally thought I had replied to this yesterday. Anyway...
Simple Minds - Love them! One of the best things to come out of Scotland. Their music played a major part of my teen years. It still holds up for me today. Am I high or was Jim Kerr married to Chrissy Hynde from The Pretenders? Faves: Don't You Forget About Me, Alive & Kicking, Promised You A Miracle, Speed Your Love To Me, Theme From Great Cities, I Travel.
Simply Red - My mom liked them a one point. I'll admit to liking "Holding Back The Years" but I don't need to hear it ever again.
Sister Sledge - Nice goody goody disco pop. All of the members looked like my dad's younger cousins and when I was young I was semi-convinced that they secretly in this band. Anyway...faves: He's The Greatest Dancer, All American Girls, We Are Family (overplayed, but instrumentally superb)
Skid Row - Gawd! How I used to love this band. Now I can't listen to them at all. Sebastian Bach does have one heck of a voice though. I got see him belt it out on Broadway a couple of years ago, AWESOME. Faves: 18 & Life, I Remember You, Youth Gone Wild, Monkey Business, Slave To The Grind
Skyliners - They did great versions of Since I Don't Have You and Pennies From Heaven.

Simple Minds- Heard of them; don't know their music. Simply Red- Ditto Sister Sledge- I only know their two biggest hits also. They're OK, but nothing to write home about. I associate We Are Family with the 1979 World Series, when the Pittsburgh Pirates adopted it as their theme song. (Since the Pirates beat the Orioles in the Series, and I hate the Orioles even more than I hate the Yankees, that means that vicariously, I like the song. Skid Row- Never heard of them. Skyliners- Good '50s Doo Wop group featuring Jimmy Beaumont as lead singer. Jimmy had a great voice. Faves: Since I Don't Have You, This I Swear, Pennies From Heaven.

Simple Minds - Know Don't You & Alive & Kicking, both ok songs. Just never paid much attention to them.
Simply Red - If You Don't Know Me By Know is the only song I like, and that one only a little bit.
Sister Sledge - Typical lightweight disco stuff. Favorite: We are Family
Skid Row - Heard of them, just don't know any of their music.
Skyliners - Not a bad doo-wop group. Favorites: Since I Don't Have You.

5 good ones. No one overly special. Simple Minds--Have their "Once upon a time" on vinyl. Great 80's rock. Faves: Alive and kicking Don't you forget about me Sanctify yourself See the lights All the things she said Promised you a miracle She's a river Simply Red--Yes, I have the "Greatest Hits" on CD . But they DID have some great ones in my book! LOVE the picture sleeve of the 45 "The right thing". Faves: The right thing (WOO HOO!) If you don't know me by now (Still Harold Melvin's remake is much better) Stars Money$ too tight to mention Something got me started Infidelity It's only love Holding back the years You've got it Maybe someday... Your mirror Fairground Thrill me Te air that I breathe Angel For your babies Sunrise A new flame So beautiful Blue Sister Sledge--My fave of these 5. 2 of the best disco tunes EVER. Plus many other great dance songs as well. May burn their "best of" from Rhino shortly. "My guy" was VERY different from their other hits; not surprisingly, a #2 AC hit. Faves: We are family (forever top 500) He's the greatest dancer (forever top 2000) Got to love somebody Lost in music All American girls B.Y.O.B. (Bring your own baby) Dancing on the jagged edge Reach your peak Next time you'll know My guy (Haven't heard this in SOOOOO long, still vaguely recall there was a flute solo in the end) Betcha say that to all the girls Frankie Thinking of you Love don't you go through no changes on me Easier to love Skid Row--Not a huge fave of mine among harder rock groups, but they pass. "Grind" was better than their debut, IMHO. Faves: Monkey business Youth gone wild Wasted time Slave to the grind Riot act 18 and life Rattlesnake shake Psycho love Never cared too much for "I remember you". Skyliners--Recorded one of Doo-wop's best-loved classics. RIP Janet Vogel. Faves: Since I don't have you This I swear Pennies from heaven

Sister Sledge->>..my dad pointed out they were singing a lie when they said "I got all my sisters with me" because they weren't all there.<< I always saw a need to point that out as well whenever I saw them sans a sister or two.
We Are Family is my fave.
Skyliners->>My uncle, who generally doesn't like music after like 1964...<<
He would LOVE our local oldies station! (The one that plays songs between '55 and '64 and not a single year beyond! LOL!)
I just can NOT get enough of those beautiful strings in Since I Don't Have You(*sigh*)
That song, btw, was the first time a full orchestra had been used with a rock group. And to this day STILL one of the best uses of strings in a rock song! (Or any song actually, imo)
I read (And probably told you this on YL) that the then 16 (Or 17?) year old who sang the (Beautiful) soprano part at the end of the song was "just goofing around". (She thought the tape had been turned off before that part!)
And they are still one of the best acts ever to appear on those PBS Doo Wop specials. ;D
