And the blah continues......
SHeDaisy-That's how they write it. This is one I missed. I think they are a prime example of what country traditionalists hate about current country. They seem more concerned with dressing hip and attempting Spice Girl type dance moves than country singing. Sort of a poor man's Dixie Chicks, just without much talent. Faves-I Will But...., Mine All Mine, Lucky 4 You (Tonight I'm Just Me)-these songs are passable.
Slade-Request from Dave. I certainly remember Run Runaway from MTV's heyday, and recently taped it off VH-1 Classic. Better tune than I remember. Huge in England, especially in the early 70's. A fave of Ozzy's. Did the original versions of Cum on Feel the Noize and Mama Weer All Crazee now before Quiet Riot. Them Brits can't spell, can they? Fave-Run Runaway.
Slaughter-One of the things that brought on grunge. One party hit, one power ballad/lighter hit. They are ok if I catch them, but I don't need a compilation or anything. Faves-Up All Night, Fly to the Angels.
Sly & the Family Stone-Actual Hall of Famer, it's been days since we have seen one of them. Ok, Simon and Simon & Garfunkel but EH. And the year they went in I said, Oh yeah, forgot them, they deserve it! Great party music, and don't have a summer party without playing Hot Fun in the Summertime. Wish some of their later hits would get more regular play. Faves-Everybody is a Star, Stand!, Hot Fun in the Summertime, Dance to the Music, Everyday People.
Smashmouth-Request from Dave & Boogie. Ok, I know Walking on the Sun. And is Can't Get Enough of You Baby them too? If that's even the name?? Ok songs, that's all I know. Faves-Can't Get Enough of You, if that's them!
You?

SHe Daisy - The name is familiar -but that's it LOL I'm not sure if I've heard any of their songs
Faves - none
Slade - Woo Hoo!!!! Love these guys! I have the best of - Sladest on vinyl - Fantastic simple rock and roll! and it was produced by Chas Chandler - very cool - RIP Chas
Faves - Mama Weer All Crazee Now , Gudbuy T' Jane , Cum On Feel The Noize , Get Down and Get With It , Skweeze Me Pleaze Me and Look Wot You Dun
Slaughter - The only tune I know is Up All Night - I thought it was pretty good, I have it on a mix tape.
Faves - Up All Night
Sly and The Family - I wonder if we'll ever see him perform again? Hmmm . They released some great songs in the late 60's / early 70's . I have Stand on 45 and a few of the other "big tunes" on a mix CD . Very enjoyable stuff .
Faves - Stand , Everyday People , Hot Fun in The Summertime and Dance To The Music.
Smashmouth - Their ok I guess . Walking on The Sun is alright if somewhat overplayed.
Faves - Walking On The Sun

SHeDaisy - You're right about them being the poor man's Dixie Chicks, but I still kinda like them. If they played instruments, I'd like 'em a whole lot better, but they have nice voices nonetheless. And they're all sisters, which I find very cool. My cousin has their debut, and it's great. I've been aiming to buy it. Also, you might like to know that on their debut, one of the girls has a co-writing credit on every single song. Faves - Little Goodbyes, I Will...But, Mine All Mine, Lucky 4 You (Tonight I'm Just Me), This Woman Needs.
Slade - Know absolutely nothing about them or by them.
Slaughter - Sounds...messy. Never heard of 'em.
Sly & the Family Stone - Like a few tunes, wouldn't own a greatest hits or anything though. Faves - Hot Fun in the Summertime, Everyday People.
Smashmouth - When they first came out, they rocked! But now they're too much like every other act for me. Faves - Walkin' on the Sun, All Star.

SHeDaisy-This is the first time I've heard the name. They must be new.
Slade-I have an early album, called "Slayed?". It's not bad, nothing great. I remember loving "Run Runaway" in '84. I guess Quiet Riot's success brought them some attention, but I still like the original versions better. They also had a song in '85 called "Little Sheila" that was OK. I bought the full album and only liked that song.
Slaughter-OK, I'll admit it... "Up All Night" is a guilty pleasure of mine!
Sly & The Family Stone-Probably did the biggest 180 in rock history when they went from doing party tunes to "There's A Riot Goin' On". From what I've read, Sly was one person NOT to get on the bad side of, so maybe the darker tunes of "Riot" were more revealing of his true personality. I guess he became another reclusive Spector-like figure over the years. Too bad.. My fave today. I still don't think "Time For Livin'" has ever been available on CD.
Smashmouth-They had a unique sound, a rare thing for a 90's group! I liked them.

SHeDaisy : No comprende, Senor! Heard of 'em, that's about it. Slade : Good British rock 70's style. Gave Quiet Riot enough material to remake and keep their career going. Not coincidentally, experienced a brief revival of popularity when QR was on the charts with "Metal Health". Like the guitars and drums more than the vocals. Good party rock band. Favorites = Run Runaway (LOVE it!), Mama Weer All Crazee Now Slaughter : Hair metal wannabes. Too "pretty" to be taken seriously. Their songs were okay, don't get me wrong. Nothing I'd buy in a bargain bin though. Saw them in concert on Spring Break in Panama City, Florida 1991. Wasn't memorable. No favorites. Sly and the Family Stone : Yes yes yes I can dig that early funk sound. These cats were crazy, man. Sly's had some problems in recent years and hasn't performed in AGES. It's a shame. This multiracial and very large assembly of musicians was one of the top acts in the first years of my life, 1968-72. I always think of the old PBS children's show "The Electric Company" and Morgan Freeman as Easy Reader when I hear this bands music. Two thumbs way up. Plug in that lava lamp baby! Favorites Include: Family Affair Thank You Falletinme Be Mice Elf Again Hot Fun in Summertime Everyday People Dance To the Music Everybody is a Star Smashmouth : Fun post-grunge California party band with a distinctive style. The lead singer has an unmistakable voice like he just swallowed several razor blades. Very gravelly. The sound is reminescent of mid-60's surf rock ala The Ventures or The Surfaris. One of the brighter spots of the late 90's music scene they have unfortunately been kept off the charts recently by the explosion of hip-hop and EMO acts. Admittedly their Top 20 cover of The Monkee's "I'm a Believer" was pretty awful. Great lyrics on their original works. Favorites = Walking on the Sun, All Star

Post by KittyKat - RIP Luciano on Aug 7, 2003 17:41:18 GMT -5
I'm rushed rushed rushed today.
Shedaisy - NO!
Slade - They always seemed like a band that you'd see at a carnival. It seemed like they had about 50 people in the band including dwarves and people with funny beards and hats and things (I think the Run, Runaway video had something to do with this image in my head) Anyway, I've always loved a couple of their tunes. You're right about the spelling. Faves: Run Runaway, Cum On Feel The Noize, Skweeze Me Pleeze Me, Coz I Lov You
Slaughter - My gawd Mark Slaughter's voice is freakin' annoying! Falsetto gone horribly wrong. But that said, I do like one of their songs: You Are The One
Sly & The Family Stone - My fave today. Definite back yard BBQ music. Faves: If You Want Me To Stay (in my top 500 songs easily), Hot Fun In The Summertime, Everyday People, Dance To The Music
Smashmouth - Nope.

SHeDaisy - I'm sure I've heard a few of their songs, but can't recall any titles.
Slade - I listened to this group a lot during my senior year of high school. A friend had their tape Keep Your Hands Off My Power Supply, and I liked it so much, I bought my own and just about wore it out! Favorites: My Oh My, Don't Tame a Hurricane, Run Runaway, High and Dry.
Slaughter - Never heard their music.
Sly & the Family Stone - I agree with you about the later hits not getting much airplay, which is a shame, because they're among the group's best, IMO. Great funk-styled sound. Favorites: Runnin' Away, If You Want Me to Stay, I Want to Take You Higher, Hot Fun in the Summertime, Dance to the Music, Everybody is a Star.
Smashmouth - 'Walking on the Sun' is great, but I've never been able to get into their other songs much.

SHeDaisy - No thanks.
Slade- I enjoy them. Love the Celtic sound of their later music. Favorites: Run Runaway, Mama Weer All Crazee Now, Cum On Feel The Noise, and the long forgotten My Oh My.
Slaughter - Still sayin' no to hair metal. My husband has "Stick It To Ya", and another cd that goes with it but I don't remember what it's called.
Sly and the Family Stone - Good funky music. Favorites: Everyday People, Papa Was A Rolling Stone, Hot Fun In The Summertime, Dance To The Music. (I think Thank You Falle.....is way played out).
Smashmouth - I liked them when they first came out, but their lead singer has a bad attitude problem and really rubs me the wrong way. And their version of I'm A Believer is foul! Favorites: All Star, Walking On The Sun

SHeDaisy--THe SOngs yOu MEntioned (heehee) sound familar, but I can't really think of how they go. I don't own anything by them, and probably never will. They never impressed me much. Slade--I have the album Keep Your Hands Off My Power Supply, and I used to listen to it all the time. I absolutely love "My Oh My". What a great tune! I'd like to get a compilation of theirs on CD sometime. I'd much rather listen to them than Quiet Riot. Slaughter--I know Up All Night and Fly to the Angels. Never investigated further. Sly and the Family Stone--Great party music. Sly Stone was quite talented. Not to be confused with Sly Stallone. I know. That was lame. Anyway, always enjoyed listening to this group. Good stuff! Smashmouth--I like them a lot. They just seem like they're out to have fun and make some feel good music while they're at it. I have good memories of "All Star", cuz my (now) 13 year old niece used to love that song, and she'd sing it all the time. It was very cute to watch her getting into the song.

SHeDaisy- Never heard of them
Slade- Not a bad group, but not one that I would put anywhere near my top tier. Their sound was....well ... different, and not necessarily in a good way. Faves" Gudbuy T' Jane, Cum On Feel The Noize.
Slaughter- Never heard of them
Sly & the Family Stone- Good soul group from the late '60s/early '70s. Faves: Hot Fun In The Summertime, Everyday People, Thank You Falettinme Be Mice Elf Agin (talk about spelling!!), I Want To Take You Higher.
Smashmouth-Heard of them but don't know their music.
