Well, I'm here.....
Scandal-don't know how I missed this, didn't mean to. Dave had it on a huge list he submitted to me, but I had fully intended on including them before that. Had 2 good songs before they decided to put Patty Smyth and in front of the group name. Hey-she is one of Martina's fave singers too! I like all three of the hits I know. Faves-Goodbye to You, Love's Got a Line on You, The Warrior.
Patti Smith-How ironic Patti Smith should be on right after the group containing Patty Smyth. Basically, all I know is her cover of Gloria and Because the Night, long before the Maniacs. I know she is a critic fave, so her induction should be any year now. So she'll be walking in right past Justin Heyward and Robert Lamm who are probably mopping outside the john at the museum there in Cleveland. Gee, I sound bitter. Faves-none really.
Smithereens-I like them. Straightforward rock and roll when there was so little. I had 11, but I was never listening to it, so I got rid of it and got their greatest hits. This was years ago, and I still haven't listened to it. I like em, but they just aren't someone I'd pop in. But I'm glad I own it. Faves-A Girl Like You, Only a Memory, Too Much Passion.
Phoebe Snow-Another Dave suggestion. Only know Poetry Man. Typical 70s tune. Fave-Poetry Man.
Sonny & Cher-Geez, they actually had 5 top 10 hits as a duo, but I only know 2. A little sick of Babe, but The Beat Goes on is great. So of the times. Faves-The Beat Goes on, I Got You Babe.
You?

Scandal - The Warrior is the first song I heard from them and is one of my favorite songs from 1984. Other favorite: Goodbye to You
Patti Smith - Because the Night is a good song.
Smithereens - I group I'll have to investigate. Don't really know them.
Phoebe Snow - Poetry Man was ok, typical cheesy 70s ballad.
Sonny & Cher - Thought they had more hits than they actually did. It seemed they were all over the radio in the 60s. Good stuff, hated the TV show. Favorites: I Got You Babe, Baby Don't Go, The Beat Goes On, All I Ever Need is You.

Scandal- I only know the Warrior. It's pretty good.
Patti Smith- Only familiar with Gloria. I've included it on a cd I burned where every track is titled Gloria (including about seven versions of the Van Morrison song, six versions of the old Doo Wop song, etc.) I'm only lukewarm on Patti's version.
Smithereens- Don't know them
Phoebe Snow- I also only know Poetry Man. It's not bad. I think back in the day, a lot of people were more impressed with Phoebe than I was.
Sonny & Cher- First of all, I think Sonny was the brains behind the duo (although, unfortunately, it didn't translate to the safety while skiing category). I've never liked Cher's solo stuff at all, and Sonny's one solo hit (Laugh At Me) wasn't half bad. As a duo, I loved I've Got You Babe. I remember seeing them sing it on Shindig for the first time, and thought it was fantastic. A fresh new sound from a most unusual pair. I still think it's the best thing they ever did, but got hugely overplayed. If I had compiled a Top 100 30 years ago, it would have been there. Today, its somewhere around number 250, and may be in or out when I compile my next list. Other faves: Baby Don't Go, All I Ever Need Is You. Note that I don't include The Beat Goes On among my faves. It has a draggy, boring sound, and you can summarize the lyrics as "Some things change, some things don't change." Duh.

Scandal - Not familiar with them.
Patti Smith - Know the name, but I've never heard many of her songs before. I really like Because the Night, but I don't think it's her version that I'm familiar with. It's probably 10,000 Maniacs. Still a good song though.
Smithereens - Never heard of them.
Phoebe Snow - Ya got me. Cool name though, LOL.
Sonny & Cher - REALLY liked their TV show. It rocked. Never really heard very many songs by them, mostly I Got You Babe and The Beat Goes On. Love em. Faves - I Got You Babe, The Beat Goes On

Hey Adam Scandal - Remember The Warrior very well and saw the video on a regular basis there for awhile - I have it on 45 as well as on a mix tape . I don't remember any of their other songs unfortunately - I always thought of them as a one hit wonder. Faves - The Warrior Patti Smith - I remember reading about her and hearing her version of Because The Night in the 70's . I have it on a compilation I thought it was alright, but I just never saw what the big deal was? She, no doubt is a critics fave . And of course her guitar player Lenny Kaye did liner notes for the Nuggets box - I've seen him in different interviews he seems like a really nice guy. Faves - Because The Night The Smithereens - Thank you for including them !! They rock!!! Even though their first album was released in '86 I didn't hear them until '89 with the release of A Girl like You and the 11 album were they ever a breath of fresh air especially at that time. Dennis Diken is a GREAT drummer(Ringo and Keith Moon rolled into one) and he also helped out on the video of the Beach Boys : An American Band. Jim Babjak is an incredible guitar player - very underated IMO. I have all their CD's including the rarities disc - Attack of The Smithereens Faves - This is going to be long one - taking a deep breath Only a Memory A Girl Like You White Castle Blues Top of The Pops Blues Before and After Blood and Roses House We Use To Live in Too Much Passion Miles From Nowhere Behind The Wall of Sleep ( Like the reference to Rolling Stone Bill Wyman) Time and Time Again (great power pop!) Maria Elena She's Got a Way Something New Drown in My Own Tears Elaine Tracy's World Groovy Tuesday Crazy Mixed - Up Kid Girls About Town and their cover versions of - The Stroll Downbound Train Shakin' all Over World Keeps Goin' Round It Don't Come Easy The Seeker Time Won't Let Me Wooly Bully I Want To Tell You Phoebe Snow - Like You Adam I'm only familiar with Poetry Man - I have it on Ktel's Music Express - listened to it quite often in '75 and still like to hear it now. My brother had the Poetry Man album when I was a kid. Faves - Poetry Man Sonny and Cher - Watched their variety show as well as Cher's back in the 70's (remember she had Elton and Flip Wilson on - how cool!) Faves - The Beat Goes On - have the 45 , I Got You Babe , and Baby Don't Go

Scandal : One of the most underrated bands with one of the most underrated lead singers that I can think of. Their sound was a little too progressive for Top 40 radio in the heyday of Lionel Richie and Cristopher Cross. That's a shame too, they deserved more hits. Patty Smythe has a great voice and is STILL hotter than the fourth of July. She married John McEnroe, thus giving more fuel to the argument that nice guys finish last. Favorites = The Warrior, Goodbye To You, Loves Got a Line on You Patty Smith : Only know her hit single from '78. It's not too bad. Favorites = Because the Night Smithereens : Rockin' guitars from this early 90's band. Walked a fine line between alternative and straight-edge rock. This is one group whose material I need to explore further. From what I've heard they are very good, I might even be persuaded to call them great. Underrated like Scandal... Favorites = A Girl Like You, Too Much Passion, a couple of others from their 1990 album that I can't remember the titles of Phoebe Snow : Yes, very 70's. Similar in style to Janis Ian and Joni Mitchell, only not quite as talented. Hate "Poetry Man" with a passion. Sonny and Cher : Cher didn't come into her own until she started recording solo. Sonny, funny and charismatic guy that he was, would never win on American Idol. Strange yet touching relationship these two had over the years. I've grown less fond of Cher over the years. She sings good, she speaks her mind (which I value), just rubs me wrong. Remember in "Groundhog Day" how every morning Bill Murray would wake up to "I Got You Babe"? That would get really old after a while.... Favorites = I Got You Babe

Scandal-The Warrior was big at junior high school dances. I liked it, as well as the follow-up, "The Beat Of A Heart". "Goodbye To You" I didn't know until about 5 years ago, very different from their other hits.
Patty Smith-All I've really heard is "Because The Night". Of all the versions of that song I like hers the best. I guess her voice is an aquired taste, I just haven't aquired a taste for it yet.. She needs to shave her armpits! GROSSSSSS!
Smithereens-I like a lot of their tunes as well, but don't listen to them often. Interesting to note is that background vocals on the 11 album were provided by The Honeys (Marilyn, Diane, and Ginger.. also known as Brian Wilson's wifes group in the 60's!) Faves:Behind The Wall Of Sleep (like Ken, I too love the Bill Wyman reference!), Only A Memory, Drown In My Own Tears, A Girl Like You
Phoebe Snow-Poetry Man is cool, all I know..
Sonny & Cher-Doesn't do much for me.

Adding the duet between Patty Smythe and Don Henley "Sometimes Love Ain't Enough" to my Scandal favorites as an afterthought. She actually made Mr. Gloomy sound...er...only mildly cynical on this winner from 1991.

Scandal - Patty Smyth has such a great, powerful voice - her style reminds me a lot of Pat Benatar's. Favorites: The Warrior, Goodbye to You.
Patti Smith - I've always loved 'Because the Night', but like Ken, I've never quite understood why she is given so much critical acclaim.
Smithereens - I only know 'A Girl Like You', which is a really good tune. I should investigate further - from the descriptions, they sound like a group I might like.
Phoebe Snow - Talented singer with a very distinctive voice. 'Poetry Man' is wonderful, and I also enjoy her work with Paul Simon on 'Gone at Last'.
Sonny & Cher - The two of them had a great chemistry, and that came through on their recordings. Very enjoyable to listen to. Favorites: All I Ever Need is You (very overlooked on oldies radio!), Baby Don't Go, The Beat Goes On, I Got You Babe, A Cowboy's Work is Never Done.

Umm...not that I'm a big fan of any of these people, but how 'bout Frank Sinatra, Nancy Sinatra, and Percy Sledge?
Scandal--Really, really like Patty Smythe's voice. I have a Scandal album, and a solo album of Patty's. Love it all. I guess Patty gave up her singing career when she married John McEnroe. Oh well...
Patti Smith--My brother had the "Horses" album, and he played it to death. I got a little sick of having to listen to it all the time back then. I guess she's a critics' darling, but I was never too impressed with her.
Smithereens--Good group. I'm only familiar with a few of their songs, but what I know by them I like. I should check them out a little more sometime.
Phoebe Snow--Oh man. I absolutely loved Poetry Man back in the day. Couldn't get enough of it. It made me want to look further into her music, and I really liked what I heard. Have several of her albums but nothing on CD. I think that'll have to change in the near future. She's got a very unique voice. I like it a lot.
Sonny and Cher--The first concert I ever attended was Sonny and Cher. It was circa 1970-71. I still have the concert program stuck away in a drawer somewhere. Always liked them. Lots of memories of their TV show. Sonny always struck me as being a nice guy, and had more brains than people gave him credit for. I was very sad when he died. And I've always been a big Cher fan. She was just in concert here the other night. Unfortunately, I didn't have tickets. 75 bucks was a little steep for me. ;D Anyway, faves: The Beat Goes On, I Got You Babe, A Cowboy's Work is Never Done, When You Say Love, All I Ever Need is You, Mama Was A Rock and Roll Singer/Papa Used to Write all Her Songs, Baby Don't Go, 500 Miles, Look At Us, Sing C'est La Vie, What Now My Love, lots more...

So so today.
Scandal - eh. The Warrior was SOOOOOOO overplayed that I never care to hear it again. Goodbye To You is ok - I liked Beavis and Butthead's send up "Huh huh Goodbye To Glue" "No Butthead, Goodbye To Poo" "Yeah, Huh Huh Goodbye to Poo!"
Patti Smith - EW. I don't know why she's so acclaimed. Detest her version of Gloria, and Because The Night is highly overrated.
Smithereens - they're ok. Like Too Much Passion and Only A Memory
Phoebe Snow - she was on an Ep of SNL with Candace Bergen back in the day. Didn't care for her selections. Also not a fan of Poetry Man.
Sonny & Cher - I so admire Cher. She's a strong woman who plays by her rules. I enjoyed their show, and used to tune in to the Cher show just to see what fab Bob Mackie outfit she would be wearing. I loved and still have my Cher doll, with pink halter Bob Mackie gown. Favorites: Baby Don't Go (in my vocal range), The Beat Goes On (also in my range).

I second kathyb with the Sinatras and Percy Sledge! I also thought you'd remember the Smashing Pumpkins. Meantime...
Scandal/Patty Smyth--Much better as a group. Her first solo album was okay as well, but after 11 years, "Sometimes..." is STILL overplayed! Faves: (Scandal) The warrior Goodbye to you Hands tied Love's got a line on you Beat of a heart (solo) No mistakes Look what love has done I should be laughing
Patti Smith--Very neutral to her. Her '88 comeback was okay anyway. Faves: People have the power Gloria Frederick Because the night (passable, HATE 10,000 Maniacs' cover)
Smithereens--Crank it up! I've known Ken has liked them for quite a while, so it's gotten me to investigate. What I've heard is fantastic! Wished they were bigger. Faves: A girl like you Top of the pops Only a memory Time and time again Blues before and after Time won't let me Blood and roses The house we used to live in Crazy mixed up kid Too much passion (not as great, atypical to their usual sound)
Phoebe Snow--Very underrated, IMHO. Goes along with Janis Ian for the music of her style, and I really enjoy it. "Games" was one of the 80's best non-top 40 hits as well. Faves: Poetry man Games Shakey ground Goin' down for the third time Love makes a woman Mercy, mercy, mercy Harpo's blues Something so right Isn't it a shame Ride the elevator Married men No regrets Take your children home
Sonny & Cher--My fave of these 5. People often only remember their 3 big 60's hits, but their 70's hits were just as great. Wonderful songs. RIP Sonny. Faves: I got you babe The beat goes on A cowboy's work is never done Baby don't go All I ever need is you When you say love Little man What now my love Laugh at me (Sony solo) Mama was a rock 'n roll singer... But you're mine Sing c'est la vie It's the little things Living for you Walking the quetzal
