Soft Cell - I wasn't big on all the synth bands that emerged in the 80's but this was OK .I have to admit it was kind of catchy. I 've started to hear it again recently Faves - Tainted Love SOS Band - The only tune I know is Take Your Time (Do It Right) which I have on a mix tape . Decent disco tune Faves - Take Your Time (Do It Right) Soul II Soul - Never really paid much atttention really Faves - none Soundgarden - I never really got into them but did see the video for Backhole Sun quite a few times. I guess If I had to pick a fave that would be it. Faves - Blackhole Sun Joe South - Remember hearing Games People Play when I was little. I have a video clip of him singing this.I still haven't heard his version of Hush. I didn't realize he wrote Birds of a Feather - hmmm Faves - Games People Play Love the video to Black Hole Sun! As I told Pete, can't believe I overlooked Games People Play!  |

Marc Almond's such a cool vocalist! Faves: Tainted love (eternal top 1000) (prefer the original album version the most)/Where did our love go (sometimes) Sex dwarf What Entertain me Frustration The art of falling apart S.O.S. Band--Few people will recall they had MANY R & B hits throughout the 80's, many of which were produced by the dynamic duo of Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis. Perhaps my fave today as well. Faves: Take your time (Do it right) (Did I L-O-V-E this song in the summer of '80!!!) Just be good to me The finest Tell me if you still care No lies Just the way you like it Do it now S.O.S. (dit dit dit) No one's gonna love you I'm still missing your love Weekend girl High hopes Sometimes I wonder For your love Secret wish Even when you sleep Soul II Soul--I thought this GREAT retro-disco/hip hop act was gonna be the future of dance music. Alas, it wasn't much. Had 2 of my critical top 10 of 1989 as well; Caron Wheeler's a super vocalist. How "Jazzie's groove" failed to make the US pop chart is WAAAAAA-AAA-AAA-YYY beyond me!!! Faves: (Surprisingly big list) Keep on movin' (One of the best records of the last 20 years) Back to life (However do you want me) Jazzie's groove Get a life Joy African dance Feel free Happiness Move me no mountain Just right A dream's a dream People 1990-a new decade Take me higher Missing you Soundgarden--Actually, one of the 90's better alternative acts. "Upside" was just as great as the over-rated "Superunknown". Faves: Pretty noose Black hole sun Burden in my hand My wave Rhinosaur Blow up the outside world The day I tried to live Spoonman Outshined Loud love Tighter & tighter Get on the snake Ty Cobb Jesus Christ pose Rusty cage Hands all over Fell on black days Zero chance Let me drown Superunknown Joe South--A wonderful, laid-back singer/songwriter. Have an album of his on Pickwick records. They don't have any fine music like THIS today, lemme tell ya! Faves: Walk a mile in shoes (Woo!) Coming down with a cold and feel like chewed-up bubblegum, but I feel obligated to comment on the groups you are unfamiliar with. Excuse any errors in grammar, etc. I'm heavily medicated right now Soft Cell  : I'd give them a thumbs up if I'd heard more than the huge smash and the followup that went nowhere. The followup, whose name is long forgotten, I only saw on MTV. Very bland and um, fey. "Tainted Love" is great though. Spent a remarkable amount of time on the charts. Forget the actual total but it was a record to that date. Something about the synth beat and the restyling of The Supreme's "Where Did Our Love Go" towards the end. The club mix is far superior to the radio edit. Marc Almond's solo career was not terribly successful. Essentially a one-hit wonder. Favorites = Tainted Love S.O.S. Band  : Always enjoyed this r&b group from Atlanta. Recorded quite possibly my favorite disco song of all time "Take Your Time (Do It Right)" and carried it all the way to number 3 in the summer of '80. Churned out a few more minor hits through the mid 80's. Had a sound closer to funk than true disco actually. Favorites = Take Your Time (Do It Right), Just Be Good To Me Soul II Soul  : Critics LOVED this group when they broke out in 1989. A little too slow to please my dancing feet unfortunately. Clearly talented, then...LE POOF. Seems like they won best new artist (or did they lose to Milli Vanilli?). One of a string of artists through the 80's and 90's to be lauded with praise and called the brightest spot on the musical horizon only to disappear without more than a whimper within a year (Big Country, Terrence Trent D'Arby, Arrested Development, The Fugees and their alumnus, Lauryn Hill). Bummer... Favorites = Keep On Movin', Back To Life, Jazzy's Groove Soundgarden  : Vastly overrated and intolerably depressing, cynical and bleak grunge era band. Frankly I think they sucked. You know, I don't like to sugarcoat anything, LOL. Joe South  : I'm confident I've heard his music during my childhood in the 70's but I don't recall any tunes. Must not have made much of an impression either way. So I guess I'm neutral. What is "fey"? Wow, the one group I liked on here, you hated! LOL! |

Today's list.......attack of the few-hit wonders  Soft Cell: According to Richard Blade at Ultimate80s.com, it's the most prolific song of the 80's. I don't know anything else by them. The long version is ok on occasion. SOS Band: Take Your Time is ok. I don't know any others. Soul II Soul: Keep On Movin' is ok, Back To Life is better. Soundgarden:  - my husband says they're Alice In Chains wannabes - I just can't stand them! Joe South: I know Down In The Boondocks, and that's not a great song to me. I gotta go along with Kitty-Soundgarden was around first! |

Soft Cell - I actually have a greatest hits album from them but I never listen to it anymore. "Tainted Love" is one of those songs that everyone (from grandmothers to priests) knows. It still holds up today. Faves: Tainted Love, Where Did Our Love Go?, Say Hello Wave Goodbye, Bedsitter SOS Band - I love the dance classic "Take Your Time, Do It Right". Soul II Soul - Great memories from college. I loved "Back To Life" and listened to it ad nauseum when I was 20. A few of their songs still hold up for me today. Too bad success was fleeting for them. Faves: Keep On Movin, Back To Life, Holdin On, Fairplay Soundgarden - This was my favorite band from 1990-1996. Amazing songwriting and amazing musicians. Chris Cornell's voice is about as perfect as you can get. I have had the pleasure of seeing these guys perform live around 25 times or so and I was never disappointed. I cried a little when they broke up. Faves: Flower, Loud Love, Jesus Christ Pose, Fell On Black Days, Black Hole Sun, Burden In My Hand, Day I Tried To Live, Rusty Cage Joe South - Don't know him You know, for whatever reason, Cornell's voice reminds me of Sammy Hagar's. When I first heard Spoonman, I actually thought it was VH! But, and here is the weird part, I like Cornell's voice, but I don't like Hagar's. Go figure. |

Ouch! Most people who've seen Soundgarden and Alice in Chains play together in concert will tell you differently. Lane and the boys paled in comparison and formed a few years after Soundgarden. ;D I'm with you-AIC is nothing compared to 'Garden! |

Soft Cell - I only know 'Tainted Love/Where Did Our Love Go', but boy, is that ever a favorite of mine! Absolutely love it! Boogie is right - that song was on the Billboard chart for many weeks before it peaked, and was on for quite a long time afterward. S.O.S. Band - Great R&B dance group. A friend of mine had one of their albums back in 1986, and we used to listen to it a lot. Favorites: Take Your Time (love it!), Just Be Good to Me. Soul II Soul - 'Back to Life' is a really good tune, but it's the only one of theirs I can recall offhand. Soundgarden - The classic rock/rock stations here have started to play some of their music, and what I've heard so far is pretty good. No titles stand out, though. Joe South - Very prolific songwriter, and a pretty capable singer as well. Favorites: Games People Play, Walk a Mile in My Shoes, I Knew You When, Rose Garden. I think Tainted Love holds some kind of record for weeks on the chart. Again, I think Soundgarden is a group your husband would like! |

Soft Cell--Just heard Tainted Love on the radio today, and they actually played Where Did Our Love Go, too. Usually they cut that part out. It was refreshing to hear the whole thing. Unfortunately, that's the only song I know by them. SOS Band--I had the 45 of Take Your Time Do It Right, and I played it all the time. Really liked it. Unfortunately, that's the only song I know by them.  Soul II Soul--I kinda liked this group. Haven't listened to anything by them in years, however. But they had some good songs. Faves: Back to Life, Keep on Movin', Jazzy's Groove Soundgarden--I have the Superunknown CD and like it a lot. I think I need to play it again sometime soon. Good stuff! Joe South--Lotsa childhood memories of this guy. My mom had an album or two by him, and so I heard his music a lot growing up. Faves: Walk a Mile in My Shoes, Down in the Boondocks, Games People Play, Birds of a Feather, Hush, Mirror of Your Mind, All My Hard Times, a few more... Wow, what format of a radio station plays Tainted Love these days? |

1. Soft Cell - ? 2. SOS Band - Funk group, didn't like them. 3. Soul II Soul - Don't like them 4. Soundgarden - Group I've heard, still not sure about them. Favorites: none yet. 5. Joe South - Better known as a songwriter as opposed to a chart busting singer. Won a Grammy for Song of the Year for Games People Play (my personal favorite by him). Also wrote Rose Garden (big hit for Lynn Anderson) & Hush (Deep Purple's first top 5). Other Favorites: Walk a Mile in My Shoes, Don't It Make You Want To Go Home. Wow, didn't know he wrote Rose Garden too! |

I gotta go along with Kitty-Soundgarden was around first! Beats me. I don't know. I don't like them at all. I don't like grunge in general. Just repeating what my hubby said. We never heard them around here until "Black Hole Sun" came out. |

SOS Band - Heard the name; don't know the music. Soul II Soul - who? Soundgarden - see my comment under SOS band. Joe South - Saves the day, or I'd have nothing to say. Great songwriter.
