Frank Sinatra--Fully agree with you Sat--the young generation liking this and not the 70's soft rock/pop? What's UP with that? Plus he's never been out of the spotlight of fine entertainers for over 60 years now. Sure, he died 5 years ago, but his death hardly moved me. Even my mom doesn't like him too much. I'd MUCH rather listen to Bing Crosby, Perry Como, and especially Doris Day and Dinah Shore! Still, I can't deny the man's legend, and he's had SOME good songs. Steveman and Kellykoop from the ol' YL club, I dedicate this one for you!

Nancy Sinatra--Unquestionably, my fave today! That mean ol' sex kitten! ;D Love most of her hits A LOT, have her Rhino CD. Most songs should go WAY up on my updated CRAZY list in a couple years.

Percy Sledge--very overlooked soul singer today. Much more than his debut smash "Woman". I do tire of it sometimes, but it's a soul masterpiece nonetheless. Other top 40 hits were good, too.

Smashing Pumpkins--liked them long before they really took off big. "Gish" from 1991 is GREAT. Not too hard for alternative, not minding Billy's voice too much. Seems like a lot of the good 90's bands have broken up; this was one of them. RIP Jonathan Melvoin.

J.D. Souther--good singer I know surprisingly little about. Only recall hearing "Falling in love" from 1974 a couple times. But his 2 biggies are great, have both on CD.

Nancy Sinatra - Nancy was fun to watch on the variety shows in the 60s. Muscially, I only like Theses Boots are Made for Walking.

Percy Sledge - When a Man Loves a Woman has become a rock standard and shows up on most sixties compilations and most greatest romantic songs compilations. Maybe a little overplayed but a good song. Other Favorite: Warm & Tender Love.

Smashing Pumpkins - Don't like them.

J. D. Souther - You're Only Lonely was a typical 70s cheesy ballad.

New York, New York is a passable song too.

Nancy Sinatra--She was quite a babe back in the day, wasn't she? Have you seen her lately? Ick. Anyway, I never paid much attention to many of her songs. I know "Boots", Sugar Town, and that creepy duet with her dad, "Something Stupid". That's about it.

Percy Sledge--When a Man Loves a Woman is a great song. A classic. Having said that, I've heard it WAY too much. I also know "Take Time to Know Her", and I really like that. Wish it would get more airplay.

Smashing Pumpkins--Can't stand Billy Corgan. I avoid the Pumpkins' music as much as possible. Blech!

JD Souther--"You're Only Lonely" is an all time favorite of mine. He also sang another all time fave, "White Rhythm and Blues", which was also done by Linda Ronstadt. Hers was the version I knew first. I prefer Linda's, but Souther does a respectable job. Did he write that song? Just wondering...Oh yeah, Her Town Too is a good song, too.

What was creepy about Something Stupid? I never heard it.

Frank Sinatra - I hear your criticism, but I love him! He had an amazing gift for vocal arrangement. That's why so many of our great standards that have been recorded hundreds of times, sounded uniquely "his" when he performed them. Case in point his version of the standard "Where or When" which he starts out soft and low and gradually builds up to this amazing crescendo that brings tingles to your spine. Anyway, I always make sure to have at least one Frank cd in the car so I can have it ready when I'm in that Sinatra mood.

JD Souther - My fave on the list today. (Surprising huh since I just gushed about Frank above). Great songwriter and a great tenor voice. He wrote or co-wrote quite a few of the Eagles hits. I love his stuff. Faves: Sliver Blue, If You Have Crying Eyes, Her Town Too, Home By Dawn, Go Ahead And Rain, All I Want, You're Only Lonely, If You Don't Want My Love

Frank Sinatra- Hey. You really DO have to include him if you include people like Patti Page. I always considered him as belonging to a generation before mine (Early Mesozoic period, I believe). That said, however, I have to admit that he recorded one song in '67 that I think was awesome! "The World We Knew" It had a great haunting melody, and lyrics that totally meshed with my mood and what was going on in my life at the time. It's still in my all time top 50. Other faves: Strangers In The Night, Love and Marriage (yeah, it wasn't written FOR Married with Children), All The Way, Witchcraft, Hey Jealous Lover, It Was A Very Good Year, My Way.

Nancy Sinatra- Boy! She could look real good, but- she could also look real bad! Didn't really have a great voice, but did quite a bit with what she had. Her first "hit" "So Long Babe" was terribly off key, but she seemed to improve after that. Faves: Summer Wine (With Lee Hazlewood), These Boots are Made For Walkin', Something Stupid (w/ Daddy, AKA "The Incest Song"), Lightning's Girl, Love Eyes (great chord change!)

Percy Sledge- When A Man Loves A Woman maintains a hold at #4 on my all time list. What a GREAT song! (But will someone tell me P-L-E-A-S-E... why did that idiot, no talent Michael Bolton have to cover it.??) Percy did a reasonable cover of Elvis' Love Me Tender and I also like Cover Me.


Smashing Pumpkins- My son LOVES these guys. I can take or leave them. Faves: 1979, Bullet With Butterfly Wings

J.D. Souther- I know he wrote for and with the Eagles quite a bit. Only know two of his songs: Her Town Too (w/ James T.), You're Only Lonely. Both are good songs.
