Only one I really like today is Squeeze. (and I REALLY like them A LOT!!!) Bruce Springsteen-Never saw what the big deal was. Actually, for YEARS I couldn't figure out why I hated the guy so much. Then, recently, I figured it out.. It seems as if EVERY time he performs in an all-star band (Like at a tribute concert or a Hall Of Fame jam), he always seems to hog the spotlight! It seems as if he tries to upstage EVERYBODY! OK, I've just made about 50, 000 ememies by saying that, but oh well, that's how I feel. I do like a few songs, Hungry Heart, Dancing In The Dark. I just can't stand watching him! Squeeze-You know, everyone who says that pop music sucked after a certain year NEEDS to give a listen to groups like Squeeze and XTC to see that good pop DIDN'T die out, it just went underground! OK, these groups didn't get a lot of radio airplay or have a lot of chart success, but they made records that ranked right up there with all the greats (at least quality-wise). Many Squeeze fans rank Difford and Tilbrook in the same songwriting league as Lennon/McCartney! But by the mid-80's MTV was too busy promoting media darlings like Madonna and (whatz 'iz name) Springsteen! I turned my attention to (what was then called) "Modern Rock" in the late 80's, and a whole new world of great music opened up for me.. OK, that's my rant for the day... Faves: Pulling Mussels From The Shell, Another Nail For My Heart, Goodbye Girl, Up The Junction, Take Me I'm Yours, Cool For Cats, Hourglass, Black Coffee In Bed Billy Squier-I can take or leave it. I did like "The Stroke" Stacy Q- Exactly the crap I was talking about that MTV was playing to death when they should have been playing SQUEEZE!!!! Michael Stanley Band-I think I have "My Town" somewhere. I know I've heard it and liked it! A Springsteen die hard would tell you that is just his "passion" showing through. Whatever.  MTV is STILL doing that these days! |

Bruce Springsteen - Yeah there's no doubt that Born in The U.S.A. was huge!! It was a big album at my high school. Iremember getting it as a birthday gift I now have it on CD . I also have the live box - set - I've mentioned before that I actually like alot of those versions vs the studio - they just have that extra kick to them. I have quite a few faves but I'll try to keep it short  Faves - Hungry Heart Mary's Place Tenth Avenue Freeze Out All or Nothin' At All Born To Run Dancing in The Dark Pink Cadillac Darlington County Darkness on The Edge of Town Open All Night Tunnel Of Love Doll House Because The Night Santa Claus is Coming To Town Rosalita Paradise By The "C" Glory Days Cadillac Ranch Raise Your Hand (Live!) Squeeze - Love them - I agree with you Pete! - Tilbrook and Difford wrote so many great hook filled pop songs.You can't forget the great Jools Holland on keyboards. The first song I heard was Another Nail For My Heart - Love it just as much now as I did back in 1980. Why great songs like this are virtually ignored is a crime. I have the Singles - best of on vinyl Faves - Black Coffee in Bed , Another Nail For My Heart , Up The Junction , Hourglass , Tempted ( Paul can SING!) , Pulling Muscles (From The Shell) and If I Didn't Love You (first heard this on That 80's Show) Billy Squier - I have his best of on CD. He had some great songs I also like Can't Wait from his 70's band Piper.He sure did seem to disappear rather quickly. Faves - Rock Me Tonight , The Stroke , All Night Long , In The Dark , Emotions in Motion and Everybody Wants You. Stacy Q - The only tune I remember is Two Hearts. Ok I guess. Faves - Two Hearts Michael Stanley Band - Speaking of whatever happened too - where did this guy go? I loved My Town when it came out and it's still a big 80's fave with me, just an awesome track. Fantastic drumming -woo hoo! Faves - He Can't Love You and My Town very cute picture of Martina BTW I forgot, I have the Springsteen set on vinyl too, when I was at the height of digging him. Thanks, that is probably my fave pic of here. So cute! I hope to post a link to her new album cover on here. VERY nice!  |

Bruce Springsteen - I respect him. I actually don't like most of the songs off " Born In The USA". I have really enjoyed a lot of the covers of his songs. Manfred Mann anyone? Faves: Hungry Heart, Brilliant Disguise, Secret Garden, I'm On Fire, Rosalita Squeeze - Yay! My definite fave of the list today. I was a huge fanatic of this band in the early 80s. Their music can't really be put into one category. It changed as much as their band line-up did. Anyway, listening to Squeeze is like pulling on a warm comfy sweater. Faves: Black Coffee In Bed (another song that my band in college covered), Tempted, Is That Love, If I Didn't Love You, Annie Get Your Gun, Take Me I'm Yours, No Place Like Home, Hourglass, Pulling Mussels Billy Squier - a total joke now. I saw an interview with him on VH1 and he was still lamenting the nail in his coffin that was that HORRENDOUS and laughable video for "Rock Me Tonight"  Anyway....Faves: The Stroke, Rock Me Tonight Stacey Q - 2 of Hearts is okay I guess. She's no Martika! Michael Stanley Band -  Who? Reading Ken's post jogged my memory about the song called "He Can't Love You" but I can barely remember. Yeah, Manfred Mann really had a triple play on those three tunes from the first album, eh? |

Bruce Springsteen - My feelings about him are pretty similar to H2's. He's an especially strong songwriter, and many of his songs have become classics. Favorites: Dancing in the Dark, Hungry Heart, Cover Me, Born to Run, Tenth Avenue Freeze Out, Darlington County. Squeeze - I've never understood how 'Tempted' missed the top 40 - it's such a great song, perfectly written and performed. Very underappreciated band. Favorites: Tempted, Black Coffee in Bed, Hourglass. Billy Squier - Billy is an artist that I've really grown to like more and more over the years. His songs are starting to get play on the classic rock stations here, after being pretty much ignored for years. Favorites: My Kinda Lover, Rock Me Tonite, Everybody Wants You, The Stroke. Stacey Q - I remember that post! He tried to make himself look so cool with his comments, and he wound up looking very foolish. 'Two of Hearts' is okay, I guess. I have that Cinnamon Facts of Life episode on tape! ;D Michael Stanley Band - I'm only familiar with their two hits, and both are really good, although it's been ages since I've heard 'He Can't Love You'. I just heard 'My Town' about 2 months ago on Flashback, and it was great to hear it again! I think Tempted wasn't a bigger hit due to what Pete said. Although it was out well before the crappy Stacey Q years, radio and MTV was too busy playing other garbage. |

Tempted does seem more played for its peak position than it should be; it's not THAT much of a classic to me. But Difford and Tillbrook are great singers/songwriters; Hourglass sounds VERY McCartney-esque. Bruce Springsteen--I'm not a HUGE fan, but I do enjoy a lot of his songs. I really liked the Born in the USA album. I think that's the first album of his I bought. When I investigated some earlier stuff of his, I found I liked quite a bit of his music. Squeeze--Absolutely love Tempted. Black Coffee in Bed is a cool song too. I think that's all I know by them. Billy Squier--Loved him in high school. Used to listen to his albums all the time. I have some cheapo "Essential Hits" cd of his or something, and I find myself listening to it quite a bit. And that Rock Me Tonight video is always good for a laugh. Stacey Q--I think I have the 2 Hearts 45. Might even be a picture sleeve.  I do remember her on the Facts of Life. Why I remember her, I don't know. ;D Michael Stanley Band--When I first read that, I thought, "Oh yeah, they did the song Let's All Chant." Then I remembered that was the Michael Zager band. LOL! I don't think I know this band. My Town doesn't ring any bells. Hang onto that 45 sleeve! LOL! |

Bruce Springsteen - Elvis may have been the King, but Bruce is the Boss. My #4 favorite artist ever. Did it without the frills, just went out a cranked out some great tunes. I have several albums, the multi-record Live set on vinyl, a three bootleg cassettes recorded from a concert he did at Wembely in the late 80s. Will never get tired of his music. Favorites: Blinded by the Light, Born to Run, Hungry Heart, 10th Avenue Freezeout, Darlington County, Born in the USA, Glory Days, The River, My Hometown, Dancing in the Dark, Badlands, Cadillac Ranch, Thunder Road, Fire, War, & Tunnel of Love. Squeeze - These guys were pretty good. First heard them while living in England in the late 70s. They had some big hits in England. Then, at least for me, they fell off the radar screen. Picked up their greatest hits on vinyl at the Salvation Army for a buck. Favorites: Up the Junction, Cool for Cats, Goodbye Girl, Black Coffee in Bed. Billy Squier - Billy was ok. Only liked a couple of songs. Favorites: The Stroke, Rock Me Tonite. Stacy Q - Shane can have her. Favorites: none Michael Stanley Band - Got their live album. It's ok. Rarely listen to it. Favorites: He Can't Love You, My Town. LMAO!!!!!! That line about Shane may be the funniest thing I have seen on here!! |

Finally got a good GH cd. Favorites: Black Coffee In Bed, Pulling Mussels From The Shell, Tempted, and very favorite: Hourglass - it just rocks! Billy Squier - he's ok.
