My pick would be The Go Go's. "Beauty and The Beat" was one of my favorite albums back in the early 80's. Every song on the album was good. "Vaction" was good too. And I loved "Head Over Heels" from "Talk Show". I haven't had a chance to hear their comeback album, "God Bless The Go Go's".
I liked The Bangles. I can tell they were very influenced by The Beatles. To me they had a more psychedelic sound than the Go Go's. I like they way The Bangles harmonize. I liked their first album, "Different Light", except for "Walk Like An Egyptian"...I wish that song and "Eternal Flame" would drop off the face of the earth. I loved their cover of "Hazy Shade of Winter", one of the best cover songs, ever. And one of their lesser known hits, "If She Knew What She Wants", I thought was great.
All in all, two good all girl bands. I think The Go Go's had more charm and a bit more "edge". I'm interested to see what The Donnas do in the future. If they'll outlast The Go Go's and The Bangles.

Another great one, athompsen!
Well, we have the Go-Go's greatest on cassette. We also have the Bangles big one, Different Light on cassette.
I saw the video to both Manic Monday, and another earlier song on VH-1 Classic recently. They really have a cool sound.
I'd have to go with the Go-Gos though. Me and my buddy used to listen to all their stuff when we were still into top 40 radio. Just heard Head Over Heels, one of my faves, yesterday on the radio actually.
And at various times, I had crushes on Jane Weidlen, Gina Schock and Charlotte Caffey! LOL!
You could have even through Bananarama into this lineup!

I'll have to go with the Go-Gos too, partly for longevity. The Bangles haven't reunited, have they? If so, the Go-Gos may be in trouble.
Personally, athompsen, I liked "Walk Like an Egyptian" and "Eternal Flame", but just chalk that up to my personal taste. Other than those two, I really loved "Hazy Shade of Winter" and "Manic Monday".
As for the Go-Gos, I liked "Vacation", "Head Over Heels", "Our Lips are Sealed", and many others, including one of their news ones, the title of which I can't remember.

Hard to choose. But I'll have to say the Go-Go's. They have no tunes which wear off me (Bangles-Eternal flame MAKE IT STOP!), plus a little more groove and energy. But I can't deny the Bangles' harmonizing! BTW, the Bangles have just reunited, and a new CD is due out by September 9th.

Do I have to choose? I like them both equally - here's why: Both groups are dynamic and both have their bad points as well. Both were all-female bands from Los Angeles that went from the local club scene to super mega-success. This success ended up splintering both bands after finding it tough to match their big-hit breakthroughs and dealing with the egos that go along with fame. BANGLES - In general Susanna Hoffs voice bugs me BUT the harmonies that Debi, Vicki, and Michael bring to the mix are so amazing that I usually forgot about Susanna. Most of the songs I like Sus isn't singing lead on, although I will admit a weakness for the albeit insipid "Eternal Flame" - there's just something about that song that I like. Their debut album was All Over The Place and it's still one of my favorites to listen to. "Hero Takes A Fall" and "Going Down To Liverpool" are great tracks. A Different Light was their next album and except for "Walks Likke An Egyptian" and "Manic Monday" I enjoy that album too. "Walk Like An Egyptian" of course topped the singles chart (WHY? Why?!), making the Bangles the first all-female band that played on their records to score a No. 1 single. (The Go-Go's "We Got The Beat" had peaked at No. 2). Go-Gos: I'm probably a bigger fan of this band because of their song writing, musicianship and punker roots. But again, Belinda's voice sometimes grates on my nerves. Beauty & The Beat is an great pop album from start to finish. I also LOVE their last album before they split , Talk Show which has the awesome tracks "Turn To You" and "Head Over Heels". Anyway, I'll stop now because this is starting to sound like a boring book report.

I would have to go with The Go-Go's as well, for the same reasons that Dave stated. Although I do like many of The Bangles' songs, some of them tend to get a little tiresome after awhile. That's not true so much of The Go-Go's - to me, their music still sounds fresh and original even after many years and much listening.

It's hard to choose, I like both bands We Got The Beat and Our Lips are Sealed were fantastic and I did have a crush on Charlotte Caffey and Gina Shock.
But I'd have to go with Bangles - Walk like an Egyption was a huge mistake however but other than that tunes like Manic Monday , In My Room , If She Knew What She Wants and their covers of Big Star's September Girls , Simon and Garfunkel's Hazy Shade of Winter and The Merry Go Round's Live were superb and their harmonies were great.
