The first Rock and Roll board post! I was talking with Dawn today saying how even though we have a rock board, country, pop, jazz, R&B, Metal, most of the things we talk about end up somewhere else-lists, opinions, concerts, TV appearances. So, how about just a discussion of the group? Growing up, all I knew from Poco was Crazy Love and Heart of the Night. It wasn't until recent years, through my love of Buffalo Springfield that I did more investigation and realized how the group was Richie Furay's baby. By that point I had heard Call it Love when it was out, and You Better Think Twice, the original lineup's biggest "hit". The best thing I ever did was investigate that 2 disc Forgotten Trail disc! (Matter of fact, I brought the disc up from the stereo to listen to in the shower in a bit! ) So many great tracks-Honky Tonk Downstairs, Hurry Up, Anyway Bye Bye, Crazy Eyes, Here We Go Again, I could go on and on. I think most critics dismiss them as fluff because of the afore mentioned late 70s ballads, but they should remember people called the Eagles Poco WANNABES when they came out! To me, Poco are country-rock pioneers, they are just as influential on today's country as well as rock!

I've always loved 'Heart of the Night' and 'Crazy Love', but wasn't familiar with any of their other songs until fairly recently. I really need to check out their earlier material - most of what I know is from the later years, such as 'Indian Summer' - a great track!
I think critics have been overly harsh about this band, and that's a shame, because their music still holds up well!

I had read quite a bit about them over the years but for the longest time Crazy Love and Call it Love were the only Poco tunes I knew - owning both on 45 . Then I was lucky enough to see a music clip (which I now have on video) of them doing C'mon , and thought I have to check them out! and bought The Forgotten Trail collection. As much as I love The Eagles it's too bad that Poco were overshadowed by them. How ironic that Tim Schmit replaced Randy Meisner in Poco then takes over for him when he left The Eagles - spooky LOL Faves include My Kind Of love , You Better Think Twice , C'mon , From The Inside , Here We Go Again , I Guess We Made It , Believe Me,Just For Me and You and so on:)

LOL! I was tempted to be a REAL pain in the ass and message you about it! LOL! I have that clip of C'mon on tape too! Taped it without knowing it at the time! I was just thinking the other day about Tim replacing Randy twice! From the Inside, Here We Go Again, Believe Me, all excellent. My fave though is probably Crazy Eyes! Spooky song, love the banjo and tympany (?).

LMAO! - I have to agree about Crazy Eyes - I remember listening to it while I was doing a bit of housework one day - very haunting.

To me, the best way to discover songs is to play while you are doing stuff around the house. I remember that is how I discovered Sweet's California Nights, Buckinghams' previously unreleased You, and re-discovered how great a song Van Halen's House of Pain is!
