Here's a cool flashback of the Top 10 songs on Billboard's Hot 100 chart, from May 18, 1974. 10. 'You Make Me Feel Brand New' - Stylistics 9. '(I've Been) Searchin' So Long' - Chicago 8. 'Midnight at the Oasis' - Maria Muldaur 7. 'Band on the Run' - Paul McCartney & Wings 6. 'Bennie and the Jets' - Elton John 5. 'The Show Must Go On' - Three Dog Night 4. 'The Loco-motion' - Grand Funk 3. 'The Entertainer' - Marvin Hamlisch 2. 'Dancing Machine' - Jackson 5 1. 'The Streak' - Ray Stevens What a great time for music! Any thoughts or memories of these songs you'd like to share?

YOW, look at numbers 9 through 4!! What a lineup!
I don't care for the Stylistics style (lol) of music. Too BoysIIMen. Dancing Machine is decent. Enterainer is alright. I don't really like when novelty songs get the number one spot though! LOL!
Good new feature!

Good feature, Dawn! Lotsa great memories associated with most of these songs. I had/have the 45's of a lot of these. BTW--I was at a garage sale the other day, and the older couple who lived at the house were playing a CD of Ray Stevens. "The Streak" came on while I was there, and the couple were laughing hysterically at the song. I thought it was so cute to see them enjoying the song so much.

Two of my all-time favorites ('Band on the Run' and 'The Show Must Go On') are there! And as much as I like Ray Stevens, I agree with you about him being number one - that one hasn't held up quite as well as most of the other songs.

'The Streak' does have some funny lyrics! That is great that they were enjoying it!

(We named our dog after numero uno: "Streaker") My favorites then and now are "Searchin So Long" and "The Locomotion". Actually I liked them ALL "then", and most of 'em now (But I'm glad I don't have to here "Band", "Midnight" or "Bennie" very often these days. LOL!)

'(I've Been) Searchin' So Long' is one of Chicago's best early ballads - absolutely beautiful. And I've always loved 'The Locomotion' also!

(oops. missed this post)
Stylistics song featured dual vocals by base Airrion Love and tenor Russell Thomkins Junior. You Make Me Feel Brand New, IMO is their alltimebest - and there aren't too many bad ones.
I find the songs by Chicago, Wings, 3DN, Jacksons, and Elton to be OK, but in all cases, not the best effort that the artists have put out.
The Streak is a novelty classic.

I'm a fan of the Stylistics as well, H2. I agree, 'You Make Me Feel Brand New' is their best!
