"It was twenty years ago today..." Here's a look at the top 10 songs on Billboard's Hot 100 singles chart from May 21, 1983.
10. Time (Clock of the Heart) - Culture Club 9. My Love - Lionel Richie 8. Jeopardy - Greg Kihn Band 7. Solitaire - Laura Branigan 6. Little Red Corvette - Prince 5. She Blinded Me With Science - Thomas Dolby 4. Overkill - Men at Work 3. Flashdance...What a Feeling - Irene Cara 2. Beat It - Michael Jackson 1. Let's Dance - David Bowie
Any thoughts or memories of these songs?

I was still diggin' Top 40 at this point, and these songs hold some fond memories. In fact, this is when my friends and I were REALLY getting into our own music. Let's see.....even though I am NOT a Culture Club fan, this contains their best song, and one of THE best Prince songs! Also one of, if not the best Men at Work song. But then I look at the top 3. YEESH! LOL! Bowie was so hit or miss with me in the 80s. Modern Love and Blue Jean were great, Let's Dance and China Girl were HORRIBLE!

Now, you got me all nostalgic here. Those bring back the best memories from the 80's. When I started an new university, met my best friends that I still see or hear from them, used to cut the last class to go to the beach with my boyfriend(now hubby) and his friends to surf, drinking Pink Champale, getting together in "The Castle"(it was a big abandoned house that had a look of castle) to listen music and drink, going to the "dicoteque" how we used to call it, and dance all might and many many more that just make me cry of happiness.

Great to see all those titles again, Dawn. Thanks.

'Time (Clock of the Heart)' is definitely my favorite Culture Club song as well. I also really like 'Overkill' - why radio stations aren't playing that song more often these days is beyond me. I didn't care for 'China Girl' at all back in the day, but it's actually grown on me a lot since then! LOL! But I remember reading somewhere that it's a song that very few Bowie fans like.

It's so hard to believe that 20 years have passed since then - it seems like just yesterday.

I was finishing 7th grade--SOOOO amny FM radio memories--I lived and breathed top 40, hardly ever missed a Casey Kasem countdown. My peak of liking "Flashdance" was around this time (It was STILL in the top 20 in August--WAY off my personal list!) Also loved Bowie and Dolby, and Kajagoogoo was coming on strong. Ah...to be a kid again!

Good memories from this time period! It was the final days of my 9th grade year and I was looking forward to the summer. I had a Season's Pass to Six Flags Over Georgia and knew that the coming months would consist of many rollercoaster rides and plenty of hours hanging out in the arcade feeding quarters into the jukebox and playing Joust or Galaga. Had my first REAL girlfriend at this time...Amy. Our song was "Wishing" by A Flock of Seagulls . The only times I ever got to see her were at Six Flags since she lived about 20 miles away and neither of us could drive yet. This music was the soundtrack to those good memories. I was also practically addicted to MTV and the old video show on TBS back then. Loved the video's by Thomas Dolby and Michael Jackson. "Overkill" truly is a great song by Men at Work that doesn't get much recognition any more. "Little Red Corvette" is nothing short of a masterpiece by The Purple One.

Ah...to be a kid again! I remember 'Flashdance' was huge that entire summer - both it and the movie's other hit 'Maniac' got lots of airplay well into the early fall months of 1983. I wish the music of today was as good as it was back then - those were great times.

I remember that was a difficult age, wanting to date and go places with friends, but not being able to drive.

Twenty years ago...I was 20 years old. Time shore does fly! Some great titles here. Some guy I used to hang around with did a great impression of Thomas Dolby singing "She Blinded Me with Science". Whenever I hear that song, I always think of the guy screaming "SCIENCE" in the exact same way Thomas does in the song. LOL! And "Flashdance". My gosh. Doesn't seem like 20 years ago already that that movie was out. Another one of my "obsessions". I saw that in the theater several times, and listened to the soundtrack incessantly. I enjoy all the songs on the list today. Except, for the life of me, I can't think how "Overkill" goes. I'm sure I'd know it if I heard it, though.

I rarely kept up with the charts in the early 80s. I kinda went away from the radio then, much as I have now. Not much on that I like. Solitaire & Little Red Corvette are good songs, but Overkill is probably the best song on the list.

I always thought that "SCIENCE" part was funny - he's so emphatic about it! I know what you mean about Flashdance - it doesn't seem possible that all that time has passed since it was popular. It's been years since I've seen that movie, but I always enjoyed it.

It's strange how certain songs have kind of fallen into oblivion, even some very popular ones.

That was probably the week I was out of school with chicken pox. All those songs were big at the time and I remember it being in May.. Has it been 20 years already?
