10. Let It Be – Beatles 9. Vehicle – Ides of March 8. Turn Back the Hands of Time – Tyrone Davis 7. The Letter – Joe C*cker 6. Which Way You Goin’ Billy? – Poppy Family 5. Up Around the Bend/Run Through the Jungle – CCR 4. Cecelia – Simon & Garfunkel 3. Love on a Two-Way Street – Moments 2. American Woman/No Sugar Tonight – Guess Who 1. Everything is Beautiful – Ray Stevens
Any thoughts or memories of these songs?

Mixed bag. Some tunes I don't know (Davis, Poppy Family, Moments), some I don't like (C*cker, Stevens), and the remaining five I like, but am a little burnt out on most of them.
The real winner here is the double sided single Up Around the Bend/Run Through the Jungle!
(Sidenote-interesting CCR and Guess Who have double sided singles, when my fave song would be Let it Be's flip-You Know My Name (Look Up the Number)!)

Hi Dawn. Yet another good list of memories.
My favorite on the list today is Love On a Two Way Street. It's on my all time top 200, and I was just listening to the song last night, driving home. I love the orchestral arrangement.
There are three very good versions of the Letter (the others being The Box Tops and the Arbors) that are about as different as three interpretations of the same song can be. I really like Joe in this one. I'm not a big fan of pseudo-religious music. Thus, Let It Be is one of my least favorite Beatles songs and Everything Is Beautiful is definitely my least favorite Ray Stevens song.
I like everything else on the rest of the list, although there was a period when Oldies stations were playing Cecelia way too much.

Really good chart today Dawn
5 classic rockers, two pretty good soul songs, a one hit wonder, and Ray Stevens first #1 (and it's not even funny).
Favorites: Up Around the Bend, American Woman, Let It Be, Vehicle, & Turn Back the Hands of Time.

Super chart! Played thes ones a couple days ago! Everything rates at least a "9" with me, that's how super! The soul of Tyrone Davis, the rock of the Guess Who, the pop of the Poppy Family, the spiritualness of Ray Stevens--it's all there!

I also enjoy Love on a Two-Way Street. First became familiar with this tune when Stacy Lattisaw remade it in 1981(?). Considering she was only 13 or 14 at the time she did a good job on it but the Moment's original is superior. American Woman is another song I enjoy though it's majorly overplayed. Everything else here is decent but doesn't excite me. Can't say that I remember the Tyrone Davis and Poppy Family songs.

I have all 10 of these in one form or another. Joe's version of "The Letter" is my LEAST favorite of the 3 charted versions (The Arbors is my favorite). "Everything Is Beautiful" is my least favorite on this chart.
My second car was a 1980 Dodge Omni. It died one day, and I sold it to a junkyard.. I wanted to have "Vehicle" blasting out of it as they towed it away!
"I'm your vehicle, baby, I'll take you anywhere you wanna go..." Yaah, RIGHT!! LOL

One thing I've noticed since I've started posting these charts is the many double-sided hit singles that were popular back in the 70's. Even considering only top 10 singles, there were quite a few of them! I remember 'You Know My Name (Look Up the Number)' ranked pretty high on your INSANE list! I love that "lounge" part with Paul singing!

I've always liked 'Love on a Two Way Street' - a very powerful song. The Moments and Stacy Lattisaw both do a fine job with it. I've never heard the Arbors' version of 'The Letter', but I've always preferred Joe's version to the Box Tops'. He sings it with such intensity, and I love the piano arrangement.

'Vehicle' is my favorite of the 10.

You're right, there is a little of everything on this list, and it's really good! I wish the music of today was as diverse and of the quality that these songs were.

I just recently listened to an Ides of March album I'd bought last year, and it's excellent. Stacy Lattisaw's version is the one I was familiar with first as well, and you are right, it was 1981 when she remade it. As I mentioned to H2 above, I think both versions are well done.

LOL I've never heard the Arbors' version of 'The Letter', but since you and H2 both mentioned it, I'd like to investigate. Do you know of any CD compilations that contain the song? LOL! I can relate, Pete - my second car was also a Dodge Omni, although mine was a 1978. I drove that car for years, until it literally started falling apart. I ended up selling it for $40!

Do you know of any CD compilations that contain the song? I have it on a "Rock Artifacts" CD put out by Sony. I don't know if it is still in print. I'd check Amazon or something...

Now THIS is a list! LOL! SUCH great childhood memories of ALL these songs! Especially "Which Way You Goin' Billy". I LOVED that song back then. Had the 45--played it to DEATH! "Love on a Two Way Street" and "Turn Back the Hands of Time" also hold a lot of memories for me. I guess those are most special to me from this list today because you just don't hear 'em on the radio nowadays like the other songs mentioned. I'm sure if I heard ANY of those songs right now, I'd get all misty-eyed thinking about old times. LOL! BTW--Didja like all my capitalized words in this post? I was so EXCITED to read all the great songs today! LOL!
