We're going back 16 years today. These are the songs that occupied the top 10 spots on Billboard's Hot 100 singles chart on June 6, 1987.
10. I Wanna Dance With Somebody (Who Loves Me) – Whitney Houston 9. Diamonds – Herb Alpert 8. Big Love – Fleetwood Mac 7. Wanted Dead or Alive – Bon Jovi 6. In Too Deep – Genesis 5. With or Without You – U2 4. The Lady in Red – Chris DeBurgh 3. Head to Toe – Lisa Lisa & Cult Jam 2. Always – Atlantic Starr 1. You Keep Me Hangin’ On – Kim Wilde
Any thoughts or memories of these songs?

YIKES!! See what I mean about music getting bad in the late 80s! There isn't a song on here I could stand hearing today! LOL!
Ok, first you have the Queen of annoyance, Whitney, Nuff said. Big Love is a horrible song by an otherwise great band. I had the Slippery When Wet tape, but NEVER like Wanted. Same goes for In Too Deep. Nowhere near as good as their earlier ballads. The U2 tune wouldn't be so bad if Joshua Tree wasn't drilled into the ground back then. Lady in Red-UGH. Head to Toe & Always-interchangable. That same sound that the radio was cranking out back then. And Hangin' On-a song that didn't need covering again. Never heard of the Alpert song-guessing I don't want to.
Sorry about the negative review! LOL!

Really only a couple of songs I recognize on this chart. Big Love & Wanted Dead or Alive are not the best songs by two pretty good groups. Lady in Red is so overplayed, even today, I'm sick of it. I Wanna Dance with Somebody was OK back in 1987, but Whitney's such a mess now, i rarely listen to anything by her, unless it on the local lite rock station. The rest I just don't know well enough to comment on.

Except for "Big Love" there isn't anything I like here. The U2 song was good but I burned out on it quickly. Everything else... EEEK.....

There are only a few tunes that I like from the list today - don't get me started on Whitney - LOL.
Wanted Dead or Alive - This is the song that made me a fan of Bon Jovi , even though I like it now , at the time You Give Love a Bad Name was just played Waaaay to much.
With or Without You - Still gets heavy airplay here . I was never a huge fan - a song here and there , this is one of the good ones.
Now I love Fleetwood Mac , but I agree with Sat they really dropped the ball with Big Love.
Genesis - In Too Deep - I got the Invisible Touch album for my birthday that year - always like it .

There are a few songs on this list I like, but I completely agree with you about 'Wanted Dead or Alive', 'With or Without You' and 'In Too Deep'. All of those songs were very overplayed back then, and aren't as good as the artists' other material.

I know I was really tired of hearing it back in 1987. I can't understand why this song gets so much airplay, while his other (and better) hit 'Don't Pay the Ferryman' is almost never heard anymore.

I like 'You Give Love a Bad Name', but it's true that it got played almost constantly back in the day. The same thing happened with 'Wanted Dead or Alive' and 'Livin' on a Prayer'. Invisible Touch had some good songs, but I could never quite warm up to 'In Too Deep' for some reason. 'Land of Confusion' is great, though!

Well, not much positive to say today. Lady in Red pretty much tops my list as the worst song ever! I hate it with a passion. Ick. I don't mind Wanted Dead or Alive. That's about the only song I'd care to hear on this list with any regularity. Big Love was ok the first 10,000 times I heard it. ;D The rest of the list is just average. If that.

I love every one of these suckers, except for Diamonds. Still, Whitney Houston slowly began to grate on my nerves after hearing her songs over.. and over.. and over.. and.. ugh! *lol*
I Wanna Dance With Somebody (Who Loves Me) - Thought it was fun and upbeat, same goes for the video. But I wanted to toss my radio out the window after a while! The comments from VH1's I Love the 80s are pretty funny when they're talking about this song and video. haha
Wanted Dead or Alive - Bon Jovi.. what a cutie, and that hair - yeeeaaaah. Good stuff.
With or Without You - I don't think you can go wrong with these guys, and this song is definately a winner.
The Lady in Red - I know there are a LOT of people who hate this song, but it holds memories for me, so maybe that's why I've never gotten tired of it. A guy I dated soon after we entered high school dedicated this to me, so now I think of that whenever I hear the damn song!
The last three remind me of my days in junior high, listening to them with my best friends, just good times in general.

It seemed like both this song and 'So Emotional' were constantly on the radio back in 1987-88. Although 'Lady in Red' isn't a favorite of mine, I can relate to your liking it because of it holding memories for you. I'm the same way with some of the songs that came out during my high school years.

Hi Dawn. When I saw you were doing a late 80s chart, I thought I wouldn't have that much to say, but I'm actually familiar with most of these.
Love "Wanted Dead or Alive" I got into Bon Jovi fairly late, but found I really liked most of his stuff. This is a very good one.
In Too Deep -- kinda fluffy rock. Not too bad.
With Or Without You - First major effort from one of the super groups of the last part of the century. Great song.
The worst of the You Keep Me Hangin' On covers.
The Only Thing thatLisa Lisa did thatwas worth anything IMO,was All Cried Out -- NOT Head to Toe
Always is a "nice" song.
Lady In Red -- I always say that I would have liked to hear Roy Orbison sing that song. It would have made it a great song instead of a joke.

Yes, I'm doing charts between 1963 and 1988 or 89 - I thought that would be the period most of us would be familiar with. I've never been fond of 'Head to Toe' at all. I think Roy Orbison would have done a wonderful job with 'Lady in Red'.
