We're going back 25 years today. These were the top 10 songs on Billboard's Hot 100 singles chart from June 10, 1978.
10. This Time I’m in It for Love – Player 9. With a Little Luck – Wings 8. Take a Chance on Me – Abba 7. On Broadway – George Benson 6. It’s a Heartache – Bonnie Tyler 5. Baker Street – Gerry Rafferty 4. Feels So Good – Chuck Mangione 3. Too Much, Too Little, Too Late – Johnny Mathis/Deniece Williams 2. Shadow Dancing – Andy Gibb 1. You’re the One That I Want – John Travolta & Olivia Newton-John
Any thoughts or memories of these songs?

Wow, again, look at that variety! I always say music hit a peak around 75-76, but 78 was still crankin' out great stuff! The only tune I'm not familiar with is Player's. But I LOVE Baby Come Back! LOL! Least faves here are Too Much, Too Little and On Broadway. It's a Heartache would go in the average pile. Feels So Good was a song I probably hated then, thinking it was too "mellow groovy 70s", but I like it now. Abba's tunes are all good, for the most part. Shadow Dancing is a good one as well. You're the One that I Want-ANYTHING from Grease is great, and when I picture Olivia in this scene, it's even better! Two best here are With a Little Luck and Baker Street. Great memories on them. Specially Baker Street. With a Little Luck is so overlooked in Paul's career. I remember my sister giving me a copy of London Town that was hers. Don't know what happened to it though!

Hi Dawn:) '78 - great year:) Hard to believe it's 25 years !??! Player - Didn't hear it until a few years ago when I bought Volume 23 of Rhino's Super Hits Of The 70's. It's a real shame that radio all but ignores it . It would be perfect on light rock stations . Love those congas. Wings - Love it - Radio in my area play it quite often . My oldest brother had(has) London Town on vinyl back in 78 . Played it lots when I recieved Wings Greatest for my birthday that December Abba - Heard this quite a bit in the house - one of their best! George Benson -Geez I almost typed Robbie instead of George! LOL Great version! - We even played it in stage band a few times back in high - school. Bonnie Tyler - Heard this many times in '78 - my middle brother had the 45 and my aunt had it on 8 - track.I 've started to hear it on the radio again recently . I have it on CD. Never got tired of hearing it. Gerry Rafferty - Oh so good! love that saxaphone this was all over the radio back then . I remember one of my local AM stations on New Years Eve doing a countdown show I had a couple of the posters that listed all the tunes -wish I still had them. Chuck Mangione - It was everywhere! remember seeing the album many times - pleasant enough tune . They at one time always made reference to him on King of The Hill for some reason:)I wonder what he does now? probably living comfortably off all the royalties from the song! Johnny Mathis / Denice Williams - One of my buddy's sisters I seem to remember had this single . Everytime I walked into their house at the time it seemed to be playing. Andy Gibb - Great one - Once again a friend's sister had the LP. RIP John + Olivia - Heard the album at my cousin's house for the first time that summer . Another 45 that was hanging around the house too. Another album I recieved as a birthday present that year. I totally agree that Olivia looked very fine in this scene from the movie

I think you'd like 'This Time I'm In It for Love'. Good soft rock song, very similar to some of Little River Band and Ambrosia's songs from that era. Here's a link to a clip of it: www.mymusic.com/product.asp?curr=0&myptr=addany&muzenbr=215604 . I love that scene from Grease! That's true about 'With a Little Luck' - despite being a number one, it is very overlooked these days. I remember being a little disappointed with the London Town album - there are some good songs on it, but overall it's not nearly as good as Band on the Run or Venus and Mars.

I agree, 'This Time I'm In It for Love' should be getting a lot more airplay than it does. I remember hearing it a lot back in the day, but after that, it seemed to disappear from the radio. I was wondering that myself about Chuck Mangione! Both 'Feels So Good' and 'Give It All You Got' were very popular, but no more was heard from him after that. I've got a couple of his albums - they're pretty good! I remember I just about wore out my copy of the Grease soundtrack that year! I loved it then, and still do!

Hi Dawn. Getting to this a little late tonight. June 10, 1978. We're living on Long Island and my wife is 5 months pregnant with our first (and only) child. -- and I'm trying NOT to listen to disco. My favorite on this chart is It's A Heartache. I like the raspy female voice like Tyler and Kim Carnes. Also like With A Little Luck. Paul is still coming up with the right combination for good songs. Baker Street would be mediocre, but the sax makes it great, IMO. It was good to see a number 1 song come from Grease, but I would have preferred it to be a different song. You're the One That I Want was OK, but Oh - Oh- Those Summer Nights!! I'm probably in the minority, but I don't think that Benson's cover matched up to the Drifters original. Really liked Mangione's trumpet in Feel So Good. Shadow Dancing--not Andy's best. The rest I could take or leave.

Most all of those were favorites at the Roller Disco. Good Saturday morning fare, for the early skate.
10) I can't recall this song. I don't have it either, so I can't jog the memory.
9) Great song - Love Wings! I remember hearing this song on our ill-fated trip to California.
8) Although not one of the Swedish Supergroup's finest, it's still a great song.
7) Love It! One of my favorite movies is "All That Jazz". I will forever see auditioning dancers in my head when I hear this song.
6) Pretty good song. I remember it, then years later after her other songs realizing who it was.
5) I always hear this song as I'm driving over the bridge that goes into my town. We had a cookout on a pontoon boat one summer under that bridge, and this song played like 3 times that day on the radio.
4) I can't help but think of "King Of The Hill" and Mega-lo-mart when I hear this one. We played "Children Of Sanchez" in marching band, but this one I liked better.
3) Yuk! I put this one in the same category of "Reunited", "Solid As A Rock", "Secret Lovers", and other sappy duets. For the most part, I really don't like duets. Unrequited love, or love gone wrong, or unbridled love are always the subject.
2) This is not one of my favorites of Andy's. I hate to speak ill of the deceased, but I always thought he was riding his brothers' good name. He had others that I liked better, but I can't come up with the names right now.
1) I think I'm just about the only person in the world who didn't like Grease, and the songs associated with it. I love ONJ, but I skip these songs on her CD.

Chuck Mangione - It was everywhere! remember seeing the album many times - pleasant enough tune . They at one time always made reference to him on King of The Hill for some reason:)I wonder what he does now? probably living comfortably off all the royalties from the song! He's still on King Of The Hill quite a bit. He's Mega-Lo-Mart's spokesperson. "Where saving money feels so good". One recent episode focused on him. He was living in the stores, but I can't remember why. He was a bit nuts. The signs on the door said "Feels so good to be open", and "Feels so sad to be closed". I don't know what the fascination with him is, but with Mike Judge (famous for Beavis and Butthead) it's hard to tell.

I've often wondered if they were friends and that was the reason why he 's mentioned so much but like you said it's hard to tell.

Some good songs on here. I haven't thought about that Player song for years. I like it! Take a Chance on Me is probably my favorite Abba song. Always liked Bonnie Tyler. Unique voice. Sounds like she's smoked about 500 cigarettes in one sitting. LOL! Dawn, you and I have talked about "Grease" before, and how we love the soundtrack from it. Glad to see "You're the One that I Want" at #1.

With a Little Luck, Take a Chance on Me, It's a Heartache, Baker Street - These are the songs that bring back a LOT of memories for me, especially It's a Heartache, and Baker Street. Great songs, too! Shadow Dancing - Andy Gibb.. de-li-cious. I was watching the news that night with my parents when they announced that he had just died. Really sad. That said, I've always liked this particular song. You're The One That I Want - My aunt and uncle went to see Grease when it came out in theaters and immediately bought the album.. it's their favorite! Really like this song, and have it taped off that very album.

Hi Dawn - Pretty good chart.
With A Little Luck - A really good song from Sir Paul. One of his best.
Take A Chance on Me - Song was ok, but Abba did much better ones.
On Broadway - Have this soundtrack on vinyl and this may be the best song on it.
It's a Heartache - Good song, but got tired of hearing it.
Baker Street - Love the sax, great song.
Too Much, Too Little, Too Late & Shadow Dancing were two songs that did very little for me. Just didn't like them.
You're the One That I Want - Great soundtrack and one of the better songs from it.
This Time I'm In It For Love & Feels So Good - Not really familiar with them.

The rest I could take or leave. Disco was pretty dominant back then - I imagine that was difficult! 'It's a Heartache' has always been a favorite of mine also. I think the raspy quality in Bonnie's voice makes the song more interesting. 'Summer Nights' is great! I remember getting the 45 that summer, and then buying the soundtrack album shortly after. I agree, the sax playing in 'Baker Street' is superb!

I have her older Greatest Hits Vols. 1 & 2 on vinyl, but a few of her hits are missing from those albums.

Oh yes, Kathy - that soundtrack is great! I remember I started out buying the singles of 'Grease' and 'Summer Nights', but then I went ahead and got the soundtrack LP. Like you, I'm glad that 'You're the One That I Want' made number one!
