Let's go back 28 years in time for a look at the top 10 singles on Billboard's Hot 100 singles chart from June 14, 1975.
10. Get Down, Get Down (Get On the Floor) – Joe Simon 9. Philadelphia Freedom – Elton John 8. Thank God I’m a Country Boy – John Denver 7. Love Won’t Let Me Wait – Major Harris 6. I’m Not Lisa – Jessi Colter 5. Old Days – Chicago 4. Bad Time – Grand Funk 3. When Will I Be Loved – Linda Ronstadt 2. Love Will Keep Us Together – Captain & Tennille 1. Sister Golden Hair - America
Any thoughts or memories of these songs?

Hi Dawn -
Some real classics here
Philadelphia Freedom, Old Days, Bad Time, When Will I Be Loved, & Sister Golden Hair are all classics.
Thank God I'm a Country Boy & I'm Not Lisa added a little country flavor to the top 10.
Love Will Keep us Together was a good song, but I think they overplayed it somewhat.
Didn't like Love Won't Let me Wait and I don't remember Get Down, Get Down.
Good chart.

Plenty memories here, Dawn!
Philadelphia Freedom was a kinda different sound for Elton John. He wrote it for tennis great Billie Jean King who at that time was playing for a World Team Tennis team based in Philadelphia, called The Freedom.
I don't think there is another song in the world that will make you say "Yee Hah!!!" any more than Thank God I'm A Country Boy. It's a real fun song. (They usually play it once a night at Caps Hockey games.)
I remember back in '75 going out with this girl named Lisa. Throughout our date, I'm humming something but not realizing I'm doing it. Later I realized it was "I'm Not Lisa" Boy, was that embarrassing! LOL!
Two of my faves on this chart are #5 and #4, and I always think of them together. Bad Time is probably my fave Grand Funk tune, and I've always liked Gold Days.
I rarely prefer Ronstadt covers to the originals, and this is no exception. I'd much rather hear the Everly Brothers version.
Love Will Keep Us Together -- I liked it the first 3000 times I heard it. But then, sometime in July of that year, it started getting old.
Sister Golden Hair is probably not one of America's best pieces of music, but I really like it a lot. -- especially the lyrics in the first verse.
Love Won't Let Me Wait - Good R&B tune.
For some reason, I barely remember the Joe Simon song, even though it was his biggest hit.

Philadelphia Freedom always reminds me of taking a field trip in 7th grade down to Philadelphia to some cool museum. I can't remember what the name of it is though. Great tune! Love Will Keep Us Together reminds me of my one and only camping trip down South Jersey. I'll never do that again. Great tune!! No specific memories of these but I still love'em: Thank God I'm A Country Boy Love Won't Let Me Wait Old Days When Will I Be Loved Sister Golden Hair

I'm familiar with Joe Simon - but I'm drawing a blank on the song. Philadelphia Freedom - I bought this 45 while my family and I were on vacation in Disneyland at the time (yup it didn't matter where I was, I bought records wherever I could LOL) - It was my first time there - great memories:) Thank God I'm a Country Boy - Remember hearing this alot on the radio , and watching the TV special . Major Harris - Once again - Drawing a blank - don't remember it ? Hmmm I'm Not Lisa - wasn't a fan of the song really at the time but I've warmed up to it over the years ( have it on CD) . I remember Jessie being married to Waylon Jennings Old Days - I Just love this! - Nice! Bad Time - Oh this one's really good, remember hearing it on the radio and my brother had the 8 - track of Grand Funk Hits as well. When Will I Be Loved and Love Will Keep Us Together - bought both of these 45's - I really loved them - I wasn't familiar with the Everly's version at the time so this was my introduction to the tune. For me "Love Will" is the duo's best song. Sister Golden Hair - This is my #1 fave from America . Love that acoustic / slide guitar combination on the intro . The song is just a perfect example of what makes a great pop song! In fact I'm going to and grab my America CD right now and have a listen to it

A surprise "Hello"!!! Great chart--I believe I have all of those 10 (except Joe Simon) on CD. But that is soon to change, as I have this on Rhino's "Didn't it blow your mind Vol. 15" on cassette (since 1992!), and I'm FINALLY converting that series to CD. Great forgotten midtempo disco track.

You bring up a good point about 'Thank God I'm a Country Boy' and 'I'm Not Lisa'. 1975 was a year in which a lot of country songs were very successful on the pop charts as well - in addition to those two, there was 'Rhinestone Cowboy', 'Before the Next Teardrop Falls', and a number of others. I agree about the five songs you mentioned as being classics. They sound just as great today!

Whenever I hear that song, I always want to clap and sing along! LOL about 'I'm Not Lisa'! I imagine that was a little awkward! ;D 'Bad Time' is my favorite Grand Funk song as well - an all-around great tune. 'Old Days' has also always been a favorite. I can really relate to the lyrics more and more as I grow older.

Here's a link to clips of both of them: www.mymusic.com/product.asp?curr=0&myptr=addany&muzenbr=145309. Linda's version was the first one I heard also, Ken. I've always thought she did a wonderful job with it. Isn't America's stuff awesome? I've heard 'Sister Golden Hair' many times over the years, but I'll never tire of it. I agree, the guitar work on the intro is great!

Philadelphia Freedom always reminds me of taking a field trip in 7th grade down to Philadelphia to some cool museum. I can't remember what the name of it is though. Great tune! Dollars to Donuts it was the Franklin Institute! It's a way cool museum! www.fi.eduOk, getting younger. I was not quite 2. 10) I'm sure I know it, but I can't place it. 9) Being a PA girl, I am very familiar with this one. I have lots of family in Philly. Spent lots of time there. It's my favorite city. So much cool stuff there. Even though it had nothing to do with it, this song was a big part of the bicentennial, which I spent in Philly. What I can remember of it was really cool. It's also one of the very few songs by Elton John I can stomach. 8) I'm not a fan, but this song is infectious, and you can't help but kind of get into it. 7) I really can't place this one. 6) My mom used to sing this one to me. Apparently I used to sing it back, but when they got to the eyes not being blue part, I used to laugh and say "They're purple". I still get teased about it at EVERY family get togeter. 5) Good Chicago song. Catchy beat and great horns. 4) Again, can't place it but I'm sure I know it. 3) Don't like it at all. Really don't care for her. She did too many re-makes. 2) Loved this at the time. Love to sing it - it's in my range. Just got tired of it after awhile. 1) I'm not fond of America - way overplayed around here, but this song is good. It's got a good beat and sound.

Well, let's see what we've got here... Don't think I know that Joe Simon song. I didn't know that story about Philadelphia Freedom and Billie Jean King. Very interesting. Love John Denver. Love that song. Always liked Love Won't Let Me Wait. Haven't heard it for years. I'm Not Lisa--Good tune. One you don't hear very much anymore. Old Days--Great song. Coulda been the YL theme song! Bad Time--Love this one! Grand Funk is/was a great band! When Will I Be Loved--Linda's one of my favorite singers, and I enjoy this one by her. Love Will Keep Us Together--I was a closet Captain and Tennille fan. I had to hide my albums from my friends so they wouldn't make fun of me. LOL! But I always thought they were both quite talented. Sister Golden Hair--Good song from a good group. I enjoy them a lot.

Philadelphia Freedom - Aside from Don't Go Breakin' My Heart, this is my favorite from Elton!
Thank God I'm a Country Boy - Never admitted it when he was still alive, but I've always liked John Denver and this song. Even if you're not a fan (generally speaking), you can't deny that he sure was proud of where he came from.. and I think that's one of the reasons why I've always liked him.
When Will I Be Loved - Love it!
Love Will Keep Us Together - I haven't listened to their greatest hits album in years, but I think I'll give it a listen this weekend! This has always been one that I have to sing along to.
Sister Golden Hair - Great, great song.

It's great how songs bring back memories, isn't it? Whenever I hear a song such as 'Philadelphia Freedom', it's like I'm 6 1/2 years old all over again! I love that song! That camping trip doesn't sound like it went too well! Sure is!! No it didn't! It was only for one night and we had a huge hailstorm around 6 pm and my tent went down. I slept in the car. Very muggy and uncomfortable.
