Let's take a look at the songs that occupied the top 10 spots on Billboard's Hot 100 singles chart on June 15, 1985.
10. Walking on Sunshine – Katrina & the Waves 9. Angel – Madonna 8. Everything She Wants – Wham! 7. In My House – Mary Jane Girls 6. Sussudio – Phil Collins 5. Things Can Only Get Better – Howard Jones 4. Suddenly – Billy Ocean 3. Axel F – Harold Faltermeyer 2. Heaven – Bryan Adams 1. Everybody Wants to Rule the World – Tears for Fears
Any thoughts or memories of these songs?

This was when music was still decent, but it wouldn't be too long before it started slipping. This particular list is half and half for me.
Angel is one of, if not my very fave Madonna song. Probably because, despite being a hit, it wasn't played a lot. Maybe because there was no video. And if I had to pick a fave Wham song, I always say Everything She Wants is their best. In My House is decent.
Tired of Sussuido, but love the album it's from. Heaven is one of Adams' good ones, until he rewrote it 40 times!
The rest are mediocre, or bad (Suddenly).

Adam is right! even though music was still quite good things were starting to take just a bit of a dip. Faves from the list : Walking on Sunshine - always liked this one! Sussuidio - Where did Phil get that name from? LOL Liked the funky groove , Even though I have the album on cassette ,I haven't listened to it for awhile although I did hear this on the radio a couple of days ago. Heaven - Bryan was everywhere !! loved Reckless well I still do - another great song from a great album. Everybody Wants To Rule The World - Still gets quite a bit of airplay at least in my area . Still a great sounding record - yes I have the 45. Suddenly - Was never a fan of Billy's Angel - This one slipped right by me - once again a few of her earlier songs were good but not much of a fan. Wham - eeewww LOL Howard Jones - I swear the only tune of his I've ever heard was No One is To Blame . I'd have to hear it.

Hi Dawn! I shudder when I think of Walking on Sunshine. Back in '85 I was working with a guy who was of the type of personality that my son calls "way too happy". When I'd run in to this guy, I'd say "Hi, Mike, how you doing?", and he'd reply "Walking On Sunshine" (Shudder) My faves on the chart are Suddenly (sneaks into my all time Top 250), Everybody Wants To Rule The World, and Heaven. Really don't care for Sussudio. (BTW, I think I heard/read somewhere that Phil made the name up.) Most of the rest are OK, but not great, IMO.

I didn't know that about there being no video for 'Angel', but as you say, that could very possibly be the reason it didn't receive as much airplay as some of her other hits. I remember MTV was hugely popular right around this time.

Here's a link to clips of some of his hits: www.mymusic.com/product.asp?curr=0&myptr=addany&muzenbr=114764.

That would be enough to make me shudder as well! I'm all for optimism, but that's a bit much! 'Everybody Wants to Rule the World' has always been a favorite of mine.

Good year! Just finishing up 6th grade!
10) Loved it the first 5000 times I heard it. Can't stand it anymore. 9) I had a friend who dressed like Madonna, etc. and I just kind of got tired of her stuff. 8) My favorite cut of "Make It Big"! I told my college roommate's boyfriend that this would be their song one day, and it was!(she was just like the woman in the song) 7) A song I liked, but never knew that they were a Rick James group named for Marijuana (found out on Behind The Music) 6) I loved "No Jacked Reqired" but got tired of this song, and yes, he did make the title up - it's a nonsense word 5) Love Howard Jones! This is one of his best. 4) YUK! Never liked him. If one of his songs came on at the roller rink, I'd always wipe out. 3) Not bad. Had a funky groove. 2) Ok, but reminds me of too many middle school dances. 1) One of my 10 all-time favorite songs! "Welcome to your life, there's no turning back" - love it! It's in my car right now.

Pretty good list. I've always liked Walking on Sunshine. Seems like Katrina and those Waves should have been had more hits, and been more popular. I should know that Madonna song, but it's just not coming to me right now. But it's more than likely that I liked it back then. LOL! I love this Wham song. One of their best. In My House--It's ok. Got a little tired of Sussudio. Seems like it was played every 5 minutes on the radio. LOL! Pretty good Howard Jones song. Jeez, in '85 we were walking on sunshine AND saying that things were only gonna get better. How optimistic can ya get? ;D Suddenly--I normally don't go for that type of schmaltzy stuff, but I do like this song. Axel F--Catchy. I find myself humming or whistling along to it whenever I hear it. Heaven--Another schmaltzy song. This one I don't like so much. Don't really care for Tears for Fears. Just weren't my cup of tea, I guess.

There have been so many songs I enjoyed at first, but then grew to dislike after hearing them so many times. I remember the Madonna look was really popular right around this time. I also love that line from 'Everybody Wants to Rule the World'!

Just weren't my cup of tea, I guess. I remember reading an article about Katrina and the Waves in a Seventeen magazine. Like you, I thought they would have had more hits than they did. I agree, 'Sussudio' was played VERY often back in the day. I still hear it quite a bit on soft rock stations. That's a good point about 'Walking on Sunshine' and 'Things Can Only Get Better'. Definitely a bright outlook!
