10. Alphabet St. - Prince 9. The Flame - Cheap Trick 8. The Valley Road - Bruce Hornsby & the Range 7. Circle in the Sand - Belinda Carlisle 6. Everything Your Heart Desires - Hall & Oates 5. Make It Real - The Jets 4. Dirty Diana - Michael Jackson 3. Foolish Beat - Debbie Gibson 2. One More Try - George Michael 1. Together Forever - Rick Astley
Any thoughts or memories of these songs?

YIKES!!!!
Do you all see why I say the late 80s was such a piss poor time for music? There isn't a song here that doesn't give me nightmares! LOL!!!
Look at that top 5! The Jets? Debbie Gibson? Rick Astley? RICK ASTLEY???
Even Cheap Trick, with their only number one, that song doesn't live up to their earlier stuff.
Do you also see why I turned to classic rock at the time? ;D

No I know why I quit listening to the radio. This chart. Only song I like is Circle in the Sand. Pretty sad. Classic rock & oldies stations were (imo) the place to be on the radio dial in the late 80s.

I wasn't listening to new music stations by this time,so I didn't hear many of these until much later. The only one I like is "Circle in the Sand". I think the one I hate worst is "Together Forever", along with Rick Astley.

Eek! My Gawd, how did music ever survive the late 80's? LOL! I'm not sure I've ever even heard that Prince song. The only halfways decent stuff here is The Flame and One More Try. I always liked that George Michael song. The Valley Road is ok, I guess. Everything else here is pretty godawful. ;D

Hey Dawn!
We go from 1967 to THIS??
Seriously, I reflect what both dodger and mc have already said. I also didn't listen to pop radio stations very much around that time. I'm not even familiar with most of the songs -- even the Hall and Oates doesn't ring a bell. Some I'm sure I've heard, but just can't correlate the title with the song.
The one I will comment on is The Flame, which I am familiar with. I remember when I first heard it thinking "THAT'S Cheap Trick??" I really do like the song (I'm a sucker for certain kinds of ballads.)
I guess I'll have to research some of the rest of these if I ever want to push my collection past '85.

Believe me H2, you don't want to!! LOL! An aside to Dawn-I hope you don't take these negative reviews personally! I like having a variety of good and bad charts and reading what people think. I think you should do real old charts and the most current charts you can do. After all, you had nothing to do with these bad artists! LOL!

There are only two songs here that I love : The Flame - From what I've read even the band didn't like it . But I do , I thought they did a great job! The Valley Road - Always enjoyed this one! I really liked the hits alot ! have it on 45 . Bruce is a fine piano player. He said in an interview awhile back that Elton was a huge influence Actually now that I think about it Circle in the Sand wasn't a bad tune - I enjoyed Heaven is a Place on Earth and I Get Weak more though . The late 80's music scene was not the best.

There were some great songs in the late 80's, but overall, it wasn't a good time for music. I've never really cared for 'The Flame' - as you say, their earlier stuff was better.

I know I had pretty much lost interest in the top 40 stations by this time. 'Circle in the Sand' isn't bad, though - it's my favorite of her solo hits.

He still gets a lot of play on the soft rock stations, though.

I don't think music ever fully recovered after the late 80's. I actually heard that Prince song for the first time just this past Saturday evening, when I caught part of Nina Blackwood's "Absolutely 80's" radio show.

I actually had another chart planned for today - 1977 - but when I got to looking at it, I realized the songs were almost identical to the last 1977 chart I did, so I thought I'd substitute something a little different. I must say I was cringing a little as I typed it, though. LOL! The Hall and Oates song isn't too bad, but it definitely doesn't measure up to their 70's and early 80's material. I remember I was surprised to find that 'The Flame' was by Cheap Trick. Very different from their earlier work.

No, I'm not taking them personally - like you said, it's good to have a variety, and unfortunately, the late 80's had more than it's share of lousy songs! LOL! As I mentioned to H2 the other night, I had originally planned to feature charts from 1963 through 1989, but I think I'll throw in some older and some newer ones from time to time.

I didn't know about his being influenced by Elton, but now that you mention it, I can see some parallels in their playing styles.
