Great list 10. My cousins and I listened to this many , many times when we were kids. 9. Love Lonnie's version , first heard this sometime in the early 90's 8.I found this 45 in the late 80's while in Bellingham , Washington at a record convention. 7.This , Iwould have to say is my favorite Chiffons' hit. 6.This is an ok tune there are better songs that he did (Mona Lisa for example) . but it's alright. 5.Excellent track , remember seeing a video they made for it as well. Love the harmonies. 4.Not a huge Vinton fan but it's alright to hear once in a while. 3.Good one! I forgot I had this song - I believe it's on CD. 2. Always loved her stuff. I saw an A +E Biography on her life a couple of years ago. Very Good! 1. I don't hear this really all that often - but yeah it's not a bad tune.

I actually heard Yvonne Elliman's version first, back in 1977, and then heard Barbara's version back in the late 80's when I started listening to oldies stations. Both versions are really well done. I would have liked to have seen that Biography of Lesley! Hopefully, A&E will show it again sometime soon.

Both 'One Fine Day' and 'It's My Party' are great classics! Here's a link to a clip of 'Sukiyaki': www.mymusic.com/product.asp?curr=0&myptr=addany&muzenbr=163072. It's a lot different than A Taste of Honey's version, but both are enjoyable to listen to.

Overall, not a bad chart (Essex and ESPECIALLY Dovells being the winners), but this is evidence we NEEDED the British Invasion!

Hmm...I was 3 months old, so I doubt if I heard these during their original releases. ;D
Surf City--Never a fan of "beach music", but this is an ok tune.
Memphis--Not ringing any bells. I may know it if I heard it though.
You Can't Sit Down--Not sure I know this one, either.
One Fine Day--Hey--I know this one! Good song!
Lazy, Hazy...--Not a bad song. Upbeat and pleasant.
Easier Said than Done--Haven't heard this one in a long time. I always liked it though.
Blue on Blue--My mom was a big Bobby Vinton fan. This is an ok song, but it's not one I'd listen to on a regular basis.
Hello Stranger-- I never knew this song until I picked up the 45 at a garage sale a couple of years ago.
It's My Party--Always liked Lesley Gore. This was kind of her signature song, I guess. Good stuff!
Sukiyaki--I was more familiar with A Taste of Honey's version. I listened to the clip of this and I think I'd probably enjoy this one too.

Here is the link to a clip of it: www.mymusic.com/product.asp?curr=0&myptr=addany&muzenbr=327133. Like you, I was familiar with A Taste of Honey's version of 'Sukiyaki' first - I don't think I heard the original until sometime in the late 80's.

Hi Dawn. Just realized I never answered this post yesterday. How could I do that to 1963? OK. Let's go. Surf City - J&D had been around for a few years already, but this is the song with which they proclaimed that they would do battle with the Beach Boys as Kings of the Surfers. (uh- I think they lost.) Good song, though. Memphis - Instrumental version. I like this better than the vocal interpretations. You Can't Sit Down - Now THIS is what I call a dance tune. Love it! One Fine Day - One fine song. ;D Lazy Hazy Crazy Days - This is probably as close as Cole ever came to crossing into rock and roll. -- Not very far. Not one of his best, but OK Easier Said Than Done - Never really liked it. Blue On Blue - One of Bobby's better songs, IMO. -- and one that is not as well remembered. Hello Stranger - Living in Boston that summer. It was the summer of the Boston Strangler. So of course, we all called this song "Hello Strangler." OK song. It's My Party - I remember reading that Lesley's father or another relative was a record company executive. So all Lesley had to do was walk in and record. Whatever, it worked! It's My Party is a "teenybopper" song. But later on in her career she showed her talent. Sukiyaki - I think I mentioned previously that IMO, this song would not have gone anywhere had it not been a curiosity. The title, of course, has nothing to do with the theme of the song. It was chosen because Americans would recognize the word as Japanese.

Excellent guitar work! I also agree about 'Blue on Blue' - it's definitely one of his better songs. I hear this occasionally on oldies radio, but not that often. I remember reading in the Billboard Book of Number One Hits that calling that song 'Sukiyaki' was the equivalent of calling 'Moon River' 'Beef Stew' in Japanese.

Another road trip with mom - she gives free concerts. 10) Not too bad, but I liekd the Beach Boys better. 9) Is this the song about Marie, who's just a kid? 8) Mom met these guys at the grand opening of our mall in the late 70's. I like this one better than the Bristol Stomp. 7) I don't generally like the girlie songs, but this one isn't too bad. 6) Eh. Too grandma for me. 5) Could take it or leave it. 4) The Polish Prince. Mom loves him. I could take it or leave it. 3) Not familiar with this one. 2) Got tired of it - have the 45. 1) Also have the 45 - not crazy about it.

HI Dawn -
Surf City - Great surfer song by Jan & Dean. One Fine Day - Probably my favorites by the Chiffons
Hazy Crazy Lazy Days of Summer - The summertime anthem
Easier Said than Done - Good song
Blue on Blue - Another good song, just not my favorite by Bobby Vinton.
It's My Party - The best by Leslie Gore.
Sukiyaki - The melody was good, but what is he saying?
The rest - Don't really know them.

Like H2, I prefer this instrumental version over the vocal ones. I'm with you on 'You Can't Sit Down' - I think it's the better of the two Dovells songs.

The real title of 'Sukiyaki' is 'Ue o Muite Aruko' or 'I Look Up When I Walk'. I found a website that has a rough translation of the lyrics into English: I look up when I walk so the tears won't fall Remembering those happy spring days But tonight I'm all alone I look up when I walk, counting the stars with tearful eyes Remembering those happy summer days But tonight I'm all alone Happiness lies beyond the clouds Happiness lies above the sky I look up when I walk so the tears won't fall Though my heart is filled with sorrow For tonight I'm all alone Remembering those happy autumn days But tonight I'm all alone Sadness hides in the shadow of the stars Sadness lurks in the shadow of the moon I look up when I walk so the tears won't fall Though my heart is filled with sorrow For tonight I'm all alone A Taste of Honey also recorded this song, in 1981, but with different lyrics.
