These were the top 10 songs on Billboard's Hot 100 singles chart from July 2, 1983. 'Flashdance' was STILL holding on to the top spot, just as it did in the June 11 chart, the last 1983 chart we looked at!
10. She’s a Beauty – Tubes 9. Wanna Be Startin’ Somethin’ – Michael Jackson 8. Family Man – Hall & Oates 7. Too Shy – Kajagoogoo 6. Don’t Let It End – Styx 5. Never Gonna Let You Go – Sergio Mendes 4. Time (Clock of the Heart) – Culture Club 3. Every Breath You Take – Police 2. Electric Avenue- Eddy Grant 1. Flashdance…What a Feeling – Irene Cara
Any thoughts or memories of these songs?

Great chart! I was at Cape Cod with my mom for 2 weeks, and actually, Casey did not air this specific countdown, for they did a July 4th special on the "Top artists of the 80's so far". But as always, the memories are there! I was already starting to tire of Flashdance at this point, and I just LOVED "Too shy"! My 2nd fave had yet to enter the top 10: "Come dancing" by the Kinks.

Only songs I like are "She's a Beauty", and then "Too Shy". I liked "Every Breath You Take" the first several times I heard it, but it was so overplayed, I can't stand it anymore, and turn the dial when it comes on. Maybe in 20 years...

She's a Beauty is a good one. Overall I don't think much of Thriller, but this particular single isn't horrible. Family Man is another good tune. Too Shy-eh a little TOO fruity. Don't Let it End-I'm sure Tommy & JY just LOVED that one! Sergio-I'll pass. Time was the only song by Culture Club I would say I remotely liked. Never liked the Police tune, although I have the album. SO SICK of Electric Avenue. Flashdance-6 weeks at number 1. UGH!

Hey Dawn!
Well today, the guy who always says that he doesn't like dance music, is going to surprise you by saying that my fave on this week's chart is Flashdance. Maybe it's the way it starts out slowly gets fast and then continues to build throughout the song. In addition, I like Irene Cara's energy. I seem to like the song more and more every time I hear it.
In the overplayed but I still like it category is Every Breath You Take. I like several of the Police tunes, and although this is not my favorite (that would be Roxanne) I do like it a lot. (Although recently I heard that the song was about a stalker)
Other decent/good songs are She's a Beauty, Family Man, Too Shy, Never Gonna Let You Go (Sergio keeps coming up chart after chart, decade after decade), and Time
I'm neutral to Electric Avenue and Don't Let It End. Don't care for this one by Michael.

Hey Dawn:) 10. Remember hearing this (and recording it off the radio) thought it was a fantastic song - still do! later on I bought the album. 9.Thought it was ok 8.I don't remember hearing their version until later on . Out of all their hits I heard this the least amount. I'm actually way more familiar with Mike Oldfield's version from '82. 7.Thought it was alright at the time 6.Loved it 5.I heard this many times on the radio and really liked it back then. 4.Thought it was ok , was never a big Culture Club fan 3. Great track! 2. Another tune I liked and heard often . I'm starting to hear it quite a bit on the radio once again . I really could have done without his follow up hit Romancing the Stone however. 1.Though it was alright

I remember 'Flashdance' did get a lot of airplay early that summer. 'Too Shy' is excellent, one of my favorites from this year! 'Come Dancing' will be coming up on the next 1983 chart!

I like 'Every Breath You Take', but agree that it was seriously overplayed at one point. 'She's a Beauty' is a good song that I rarely hear these days, unfortunately. It always brings back a lot of memories of that summer.

Their H2O album is really good. I agree, 'Don't Let It End' was not one of Styx's stronger songs. 'Babe' has a similar sound, but was much better, IMO.

I've heard that too about 'Every Breath You Take' being about a stalker. I know that Sting has said that people have mistaken it for a love song, when it's really more about an obsession.

I think I've only heard maybe 2 or 3 of their songs, but I've been pretty impressed by those. I didn't realize Mike Oldfield had recorded 'Family Man' first - that's interesting! LOL about 'Romancing the Stone'!

She's a Beauty--Not a bad song. Freaky video.
Wanna Be Startin' Somethin'--Kinda repetitive. I'll probably be singing the title over and over again in my head now--whether I want to or not. LOL!
Family Man--Never cared for this one too much. Hall & Oates had better.
Too Shy--Don't like it at all.
Don't Let it End--Please let it end. LOL!
Never Gonna Let You Go--Don't like this one much, either.
Time (Clock of the Heart)--There ya go! Always liked Culture Club. Thought Boy George had an awesome voice. Probably my favorite from the list today.
Every Breath You Take--Kinda tired of it.
Electric Avenue--For the longest time, I thought that one line in the song was "And then we'll take your tires", when in fact it was, "And then we'll take you higher". LOL!
Flashdance--My second favorite from this list. I have the soundtrack on vinyl, and it's one my all time faves.

I didn't realize Mike Oldfield had recorded 'Family Man' first - that's interesting! LOL about 'Romancing the Stone'! Family Man - Yeah I remember my brother had the 45 - At the time I thought it was really good ,a girl by the name of Maggie Reilly sang lead vocals. The Tubes - The album is called Outside ,Inside and it's very good . Other great songs included are No , Not Again , Fantastic Dellusion , Out of The Business and they even do a cover of The Monkey Time with Martha Davis from The Motels.

Favorites here would be Family Man, Don't Let it End (unfortunately it did), Every Breath you Take, & Electric Avenue.
Flashdance was ok the 300 times I heard it, and I got the soundtrack, just got really tired of it.
She's a Beauty by the Tubes I don't recognize the song although I've heard the Tubes before.
The rest, didn't like them.

Not a bad year.
10) Good song. I agree, the video is weird. 9) This one is tolerable, but this was the point I stopped liking him. 8) Love Hall and Oates, and this is a good song. 7) I liked this one, but I grew tired of it. 6) This one was ok, but not one of my favorites. 5) I could take or leave this one. 4) Love this one. As I mentioned once before, it got a little weird when I found out he was singing it to their drummer. 3) I never get sick of this one. Love the whole sound of it. 2) This one was ok. I agree it was better than Romancing The Stone. 1) I got tired of this one, and am still pretty much tired of it.
