Let's jump forward 10 years from yesterday's chart. These were the top 10 songs on Billboard's Hot 100 singles chart from July 9, 1977.
10. My Heart Belongs to Me – Barbra Streisand 9. Margaritaville – Jimmy Buffett 8. Jet Airliner – Steve Miller Band 7. Angel in Your Arms – Hot 6. Got to Give It Up (Pt. 1) – Marvin Gaye 5. I Just Want to Be Your Everything – Andy Gibb 4. Gonna Fly Now (Theme from Rocky) – Bill Conti 3. Looks Like We Made It – Barry Manilow 2. Da Doo Ron Ron – Shaun Cassidy 1. Undercover Angel – Alan O’Day
Any thoughts or memories of these songs?

Hey Dawn! This is quite a good chart. 1977 and no disco!! My Heart Belongs To Me - I heard this referred to once as "The Narcissus Song" For Barbra they're ALL about her. She's got a great voice, but boy is she annoying. Margaritaville - If we ever had a question on the Questions Board, or a Poll on the Poll board asking "What songs have become icons"? this HAS to get some votes. Someday the word Margaritaville will be in the dictionary, signifying laid-back, goofing off, etc. Its a great song, BTW. Jet Airliner - Not a bad song, but after a while, every Steve Miller song sounds like every other Steve Miller song. Angel In Your Arms - Love this one! Great harmonies, clever lyrics. Too bad this group never went anywhere. Got To Give It Up - Typical Marvin. Good song. I Just Want To Be Your Everything - This song introduced Andy to the world. It seemed to be popular forever. (31 weeks on the chart) Very nice light rocker. When it first came out I used to compare it to Lay a Little Lovin' On Me by Robin MacNamarra. Gonna Fly Now - Speaking of icons....... Looks Like We Made It - I have admitted that I enjoy listening to Barry -- (Yeah, go ahead, tell everyone... they know anyway!!) This however, is not among my favorites. Da Doo Run Run - Didn't really like the original that much. This is not nearly as good. Didn't like DAVID Cassidy that much. Shaun was not nearly as good. Undercover Angel - OK song. Another one hit wonder (I think). My question: How did this ever make it to #1 ?

'77 alright! 10. Blech 9.A great tune! and one I remember hearing often back in the day.Play it on the guitar too once in a while! 8.What can you say - Steve could do no wrong. 7.I don't remember hearing it back in '77 but have become familiar with it over the years. Nice one 6.Remember a buddy of mine and l listening to this and Gonna Fly Now alot at the time on K-tel's Music Machine. 5.We had the odd disco 45 in the house(yes I admit it LOL) and this was one of them. I always like it. 3.Heard this one a few times 2.I never heard this as much as either Hey Deanie or That's Rock and Roll - These are guilty pleasures for me LOL 1.Yeah this was a very popular tune. I've always thought of it as I kind of a bubblegum type of song.

Ahhh, yes! 26 years ago, and my first written list ever! Long thrown away, however. My 2 faves were identical to Billboard's top 2 (I've always LOVED Undercover angel!). If I remember right, Bill Conti seemed overplayed, and was not even in my top 10. I think Andy was lower than 5 on my list, and Jet Airliner may have been #5 for me. Rounding out my top 5 were Foreigner "First time" at #3 (already off Billboard's top 10), and Hot at #4--like Alan O'day, such wonderful memories that never wear off after 26 years!

It has really gained a following over the years - I think the song is probably even more well-loved nowadays than it was back then! I loved 'I Just Want to Be Your Everything' from the first time I heard it. I can still remember oogling Andy's photo on the single's picture sleeve!

It's great - probably my favorite of all Jimmy's songs. Music Machine has some excellent songs on it! Those K-tel albums really bring back the memories. About Shaun Cassidy's music - you and me both, Ken! I wouldn't mind picking up a greatest hits compilation of his one of these days!

I agree, 'Undercover Angel' is a great song - I loved it back then, and still do! It's hard to believe it's been 26 years already since these songs were popular. I remember 'Feels Like the First Time' was still getting a lot of airplay at this point on the top 40 station where I live.

Don't know the Barbara tune. A little tired of the tunes by Jimmy & Steve. Don't know the Hot tune (although I may actually have it on one of the Have a Nice Day CD's! ). Like the Marvin tune a lot, but only first hear it in recent years! Good tunes by Andy, Barry and Alan!

I don't remember hearing Marvin's song at all back when it was current either. I remember first hearing it on a Ronco compilation LP called Solid Gold that I bought back in 1986. I agree 100% about the Andy, Barry and Alan songs!

My Heart Belongs To Me - I heard this referred to once as "The Narcissus Song" For Barbra they're ALL about her. I'd never thought of it that way. I like most of her music, but that particular song always struck me as really depressing. I don't know why--I guess it just sounds sad.

Margaritaville (a good place to visit) & Jet Airliner (the best way to get to Margaritaville) are my favorites here.
Got to Give it Up is another good song from the late great Marvin Gaye
Undercover Angel & Gonna Fly Now were songs I could tolerate.
The rest, didn't like.

I completely agree, Laura - I've always thought it had a depressing quality to it as well. 'The Way We Were' has that sound also - I always feel like crying whenever I hear it.

Ok - catch-up time. I would have been not-quite 4.
10) Eh - not a fan of Babs. 9) Not a Parrot Head either 8) Good song - funky hook 7) Don't recall this one... 6) Marvin could do no wrong 5) It was ok but I prefered his brothers 4) Grew tired of it, as I only live a few hours from and spent a lot of time in Philly - and yes, I have run up the steps. 3) Barry is ok, but this is not among my favorites. 2) The original is ok, but I don't care for Shawn's version 1) Love this song - when I was little, I thought they were saying "midnight, Tennessee"

There's some excellent guitar work on that song. I imagine 'Gonna Fly Now' did get lots of airplay in the Philadelphia area back then!
