I always say the last really good year of new music was 84, but the last OUTSTANDING year was 76! Only the Beatles could land a top 10 hit 10 years after their peak! Sara Smile, Love is Alive, Silly Love Songs, and Afternoon Delight are all among my all time faves. Andrea True's song should have been called Porn, Porn, Porn!

Hey Dawn! 1976. Another of my favorite summers. In fact (just in case my wife reads this) it's my most favorite. It's the summer that we got engaged. (We got married that December). This chart features the two songs that were "our songs" that summer and are consequently both in my all time top 100. They are Silly Love Songs and Afternoon Delight. Silly Love Songs, it seems was always being played that summer, and since we were together all summer, we kinda adopted the song. Afternoon Delight speaks for itself. As for the others: Got To Get You Into My Life - The world was hungry for Beatles then, so this was re-released. Not my fave Beatles song, but a good one (they didn't do bad ones). Like it better than the EWF cover. Sara Smile - One of the earliest and one of the best Hall and Oates songs. Great sound. Love Is Alive - I like this one at least as much as Dreamweaver. Misty Blue - Like this one too. More More More - Less Less Less. (I think I said this before) Shop Around - I barely remember this. The Captain and Tenille covering Smokey? I think I've repressed it. I'll Be Good To You - Good Song. Kiss and Say Goodbye - Real good soul ballad.

10.Six years after the split and Beatles' tunes still make a huge impact on the charts, very cool . I remember buying (and I still have it:) the Rock and Roll Music compilation album back then . 9.I've always thought this was a great tune - Daryl sings it so well 8.Woo Hoo - I remember "borrowing" (LOL) my brother's 45 and playing it many times! Loved it then - love it even more now! 7.I have this on Ktel's 36 Supergold Hits(I think I was the one that kept the company in business and actually played the song quite a bit. 6.Sir Paul! I seem to remember certain critics at the time dumping on the song which I never understood - it includes some of the funkiest bass playing ever. 5.She really didn't have that great a voice , but the song was catchy which of course was the whole point. 4. I thought their version was good , I still think love Will Keep us Together was their best. 3.I' ll have to go to the mymusic website later to refresh my memory . I might have this on 8 - track somwhere. 2.I only know a few of their tunes , but this is an awesome track. 1. Another guilty pleasure (sssh don't tell anybody . I remember hearing this on the radio quite often . Of course only being about 8 at the time I had no clue to what they were actually singing about LOL I just though it was a very catchy tune!

I agree, 1976 was an outstanding year for music! Back in 1986, when I started really getting into the Beatles' music, I was really surprised to find out that 'Got to Get You Into My Life' was originally recorded in 1966! I remember hearing it often during the summer of '76, and it seemed to fit right in with the other songs of the day.

It's a wonderful song, with excellent vocals. And 'Silly Love Songs' has long been a favorite of mine also. 'Sara Smile' is classic Hall & Oates. Love it! LOL about 'More More More'!

'Love is Alive' is a terrific song! I'm like you - the older I get, the more I love it! LOL about keeping K-tel in business! Those albums are so great, though. I really like those double LP sets, like the one you mentioned. About 'Afternoon Delight' - you sound exactly like me! I was not quite 8 when it was released, and I also had no idea what they were referring to either at the time! LOL! Your secret is safe with me - I've always loved it too!

The Beatles & Wings both on the charts with great songs.
Sara Smile, Love is Alive, Misty Blue, Kiss & Say Goodbye are all really good slow songs.
Really got tired of Afternoon Delight really quick
More More More, Shop Around, I'll be Good to You, didn't like them

It's really great to see a classic Beatles song alongside the "newer" songs of that time. As I mentioned in my reply to Sat, it surprised me that 'Got to Get You Into My Life' was as old as it was. With the strong brass especially, it sounds very much like a song from the mid-70's.

Ok - not quite 3 here.
10) Did this make a comeback and re-chart? Love the song, but this isn't the proper timeframe. 9) I love Hall and Oates, but this one and Rich Girl are lower on my favorites list 8) Great song 7) Not familiar with this one... 6) Love this song and Wings 5) Eh - on par for a porno actress 4) Love the original, but not this version 3) It's ok. Dont' feel strongly either way 2) I know the group, but not familiar with this song... 1) EWW! To quote Homer Simpson "Starland Vocal Band... EWW! THEY SUCK!
