Hey Dawn! Some good ones here. Make it with You - Nice Ballad. Bread's first hit of many. David Gates has a nice, relaxing voice. Gimme Dat Ding - Fun song. -- Weird -- but fun. O-o-h Child - Love this one! Five Stairsteps is one of the groups we've talked about that was big in the R&B world for a while, and then finally had a big crossover hit -- and deservedly so. Family group. At one point called "The Five Stairsteps and Cubie." Cubie was 5 years old. Lay Down - Melanie's best. Ride Captain Ride - I mentioned the Pueblo last time. This time I'll just say that I like the song. Ball Of Confusion - Not bad, not my fave. Band of Gold - Good R&B song! Almost (shudder) disco-sounding, however. The words are weird, however. Talk about no communication. How do you wind up in different rooms on your honeymoon?? Arranged marriage that didn't work? Close To You - Carpenters first huge hit. Love the harmonies. Love You Save - Good early Jacksons Mama Told Me Not To Come - I remember last time, I said that this was one of my least favorite songs by one of my favorite groups. Well, after that post, the song was in my head the rest of the day. So that nite I pulled out my 3DN greatest hits CD and played it. Turns out I like it a lot more now.

Good chart!
Gimmie Dat Ding is a good novelty tune I'll sometimes sing when asking for something.
Ball of Confusion I have heard, even a few weeks back, but couldn't sing it for the life of me.
Better than average tunes-Lay Down, Band of Gold, Close to You, The Love You Save, Mama Told Me (Not to Come).
Best tunes here-Oooh Child, Ride Captain Ride and Make it With You! Good stuff!

Ahhh yes those carefree days of 1970. Taking it easy and watching alot of Sesame Street 10. I was just listening to this yesterday! 9.Cool little novelty tune I don't mind playing every so often. 8.I didn't hear this until a few years ago when I bought that K-tel 3 record set we were talking about a couple of days ago. 7.I guess this one's alright it's better than Brand New Key 6.Wooo Hooo - This got quite a bit of airplay in my classic rock station at one point. Fantastic Guitar solo I wonder what the rest of the album is like. 5. Motown just cranked out one classic after another. I think I have footage of them performing this on Ed Sullivan. 4.Love the heavy drum sound on this and that electric sitar. Remember hearing this quite alot back then. 3.Karen - what a voice - Yup I like it 2.One of the many Jackson 5 classics 1. My next - door neighbor had this on 45 and if we were over visiting it was always playing.

Close To You and Make It With You remind me of going for swimming lessons at the YMCA in Hackensack, NJ. Band Of Gold reminds me of my trips to Palisades Amusement Park. (It's great it's groovy, come on over!!) O-o-h Child I wasn't really familiar with back then but I heard it in the Matt Dillon movie Over The Edge and I love it!! Don't think it was the original version but I have the original now!

I always consider the 70's "my" era of music, cuz it's what I grew up listening to, and have lots of memories associated with that decade of music. This chart is no exception. Some great stuff here!
Make it With You--Really nice stuff from David Gates and the guys. Pleasant, relaxing music.
Gimme Dat Ding--A fun song. I had/have the 45. Listened to it a lot back then.
O-o-h Child--An all time favorite of mine.
Lay Down--Melanie was a good singer/songwriter. I always liked this one by her.
Ride Captain Ride--My brother had this 45 and I would "borrow" it a lot and play it.
Ball of Confusion--Heard this on the radio just the other day, after not having heard it for years. Brought back lots of memories.
Band of Gold--Great song. Kimberley Locke from this season's American Idol sang this a few times on the show. Made me remember the original version, and how much I liked it.
Close to You--Karen Carpenter had a great voice. Love this song.
The Love You Save--Back when Michael was cute. Those were the good ol' days! ;D
Mama Told Me Not to Come--A good song, but a little overplayed. I wish the oldies stations would play some different Three Dog Night songs once in awhile.

Morning Dawn. Good chart. Kind of a typical early 70s AM radio chart with lots of contrasting styles.
Make It With You, O-o-h Child, & Close to You are classic ballads.
Gimme Dat Ding - A fun novelty song
Lay Down, Ride Captain Ride, Ball of Confusion - Good songs dealing with the social & political climate of the era.
Band of Gold & Love you Saved - Both pretty good songs
Mama Told Me Not to Come - One of my favorites by 3DN.

I hadn't known that about The Five Stairsteps and Cubie! I think I may have heard one or two of their other songs, but no titles come to mind. I've heard 'Band of Gold' many times, but never really picked up on that until now! LOL! That is pretty strange that they would be staying in separate rooms on a honeymoon!

For some reason, I never hear 'Gimme Dat Ding' (or many of the novelty songs, for that matter) on the radio. It's a really fun song! Hey, that's pretty cool about your having the Ed Sullivan footage! Do you have that video collection?

I didn't hear 'O-o-h Child' myself until about 1989 or 1990, when one of the oldies stations here played it. Great song!

I'm the same way, Kathy. I really like the music of the 60's, and early-to-mid 80's music brings back memories of my junior high and high school years, but it's 70's music that I love and identify with the most! I hear 'Ball of Confusion' occasionally, but not as often as a lot of their other hits. I always like the line "And the band played on" sung in that low bass voice! I agree that the oldies stations should be playing more of a variety of Three Dog Night hits. 'The Show Must Go On', 'Liar', 'Sure As I'm Sittin' Here' - all are great, but I seldom if ever hear them.

A couple of TV stations here have showed different compilations of clips so I just recorded what I liked:)

A couple of TV stations here have showed the differnt compilations of clips so I just recorded what I liked:) I remember about 8 or 9 years ago they showed a special on one of the networks, The Best of Ed Sullivan. I had taped it, and was planning to save it, but then I went and taped another program over it! Arrgh!

I remember taping an Ed Sullivan Christmas clip show because the were going to show The Dave Clark Five (which they never ever show). Well it turned out the clip was about six seconds long ! They sang Over and Over if you would have blinked you would have missed it . That ticked me off - LOL
