An '85 theme today 10. The only Debarge song I'm familiar with is Rhythm of The Night - I don't remember this at all. 9.The drummimg is just so good!! 8.Wow I haven'theard this since '85 A buddy of mine had a couple of the albums. I really liked Nightranger (still do!) 7.Woo Hoo - alright Huey! Still love it after all this time. 6. Corey was selling truckloads of records there for awhile - LOL:) - I thought it was OK. 5. This is one of my very favorite songs from Born in The U.S.A. - Listened to it many , many times. 4.ewwww 3. Sting's first solo hit - I really liked it I thought it was very good and it got alot of airplay locally - I have this on a mix tape I made at the time. 2.Loved it - very good 1. This was another big band at my high school - a buddy of mine had the cassette and played it over and over . It was great!

10. I am not going to even dignify this one.
9. I actually liked and bought this at the time. They actually rocked it a little more, with Tony Thompson's pounding on the drums.
8. Decent, not their best.
7. Very popular at the time, but I got burnt on it.
6. Have the single, and the cover folds out into a mini poster.
5. Again, liked it then.....
4. ICK.
3. Ok, nothing great.
2. Not bad, not great.
1. Sick of it.

10. Who’s Holding Donna Now – DeBarge Awful r&b ballad by this Jheri-curled family act.
9. Get It On – Power Station T-Rex did it better but this is a respectable update.
8. Sentimental Street – Night Ranger "You Can Still Rock in America"...that is until you hit the Top Five with a ballad and sell out. Thus producing crappy followups like this one.
7. The Power of Love – Huey Lewis & the News Don't like this one either. Way overplayed. Enjoyed the movie, of course.
6. Never Surrender – Corey Hart Good grief what a bad list. Never cared for this tune at all.
5. Glory Days – Bruce Springsteen Wow, still having top 5 hits from "Born in the USA" 13 months later. Bruce was en fuego. This one's okay, relative the others.
4. You Give Good Love – Whitney Houston Ughhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!
3. If You Love Somebody Set Them Free – Sting Oh dear God make it STOP. Too much elevator music on this chart!
2. Everytime You Go Away – Paul Young Ditto. Pour me some coffee I'm feeling rather drowsy
1. Shout – Tears for Fears Liked it then but grew tired of it over time.
I'd have to say "Get It On" is the only song here I still enjoy.

This was really near the end of my Top 40 phase.
10. Who’s Holding Donna Now – DeBarge (Never liked it.) 9. Get It On – Power Station (Love the original, love this version, love the album!) 8. Sentimental Street – Night Ranger (Better than "Sister Christian" IMHO. "7 Wishes" was a GREAT album!)) 7. The Power of Love – Huey Lewis & the News (Not my favorite Huey Lewis tune, but not my least favorite, either.). 6. Never Surrender – Corey Hart (Don't like his voice, newer did). 5. Glory Days – Bruce Springsteen (Passable.) 4. You Give Good Love – Whitney Houston (NO, NO, POSITIVELY NO!!) 3. If You Love Somebody Set Them Free – Sting (Good tune, like "Fortress" better.) 2. Everytime You Go Away – Paul Young (Ditto, with "Come Back & Stay"). 1. Shout – Tears for Fears (Best song on this chart., I seem to vaguely recall an extended mix of this with a Gregorian-style chant in the middle. Haven't heard that version since '85 (If I'm not imagining it). Anybody know of this? Dave?

I didn't really plan it that way, but it is pretty cool how it worked out! Oh, I definitely agree with you about the drumming on 'Get It On' - it's superb! Tony also did an excellent job on 'Some Like It Hot'. I really like Night Ranger's music also! They had a great sound. 'The Power of Love' is one of my favorites of Huey's. It was a perfect choice for Back to the Future - I love that movie!

That sounds like a cool sleeve for the 45 of 'Never Surrender'!

You're right about Born in the U.S.A. - the hits just kept on coming! I remember 'Never Surrender' was the homecoming theme in my senior year. It's okay, but I've always liked 'Sunglasses at Night' much more than this one.

I've never heard the entire Power Station album, but judging from the two singles, I imagine it's excellent! I agree with you about 7 Wishes, Pete - there are some really good songs on that album! 'Four in the Morning' is my favorite from it. I can't quite place the version of 'Shout' that you mentioned, but I'm pretty sure you're not imagining it. I know they had a lot of alternate mixes of their songs back in the day.

Between 6th and 7th grade. Pretty good years. I liked the Middle School at first - got to meet other people from the other 2 elementary schools. Most people who became my long term friends were from the other schools.
10) I never really liked this one. 9) Great song! John Taylor and Robert Palmer - 'nuff said! 8) Probably my favorite one by this group. 7) Love Huey to pieces, but got so tired of this one. 6) Not bad. Better than the overplayed Sunglasses At Night. 5) One of the ones of his that I like. 4) This one is tolerable - not a Whitney fan. 3) A good early solo hit by Sting. 2) LOVE Paul Young and this song. 1) One of my all time favorite songs.

Hi Dawn - As much as I listened to the radio in 1984, I didn't listen to it at all in 1985.
10. Who's Holding Donna Now - Never really like much of what Debarge did, including this.
9. Get It On - ?
8. Sentimental Street - A pretty good song by Night Ranger. Saw them in concert over Memorial Day.
7. The Power of Love - Not the best song by Huey & the boys, but not bad.
6. Never Surrender - ?
5. Glory Days - The Boss still living on the glory of Born in the USA.
4. You Give Good Love - Bad song by Whitney
3. If You Love Somebody, Set Them Free - Sting should have stayed with the Police a little longer.
2. Everytime You Go Away - Overplayed, mushy ballad.
1. Shout - Another #1 for Tears for Fears. Good song.

I had the same experience with middle school - virtually all my middle and high school friends went to other elementary schools. I think 'If You Love Somebody' is probably my favorite of all of Sting's hits. I taped it off the radio back in the summer of '85, and I remember listening to that tape over and over! 'Shout' is great - I've always liked their music.

I agree that 'Everytime You Go Away' has been very overplayed over the years.

Hey Dawn! Not a bad list all in all. 10. Who’s Holding Donna Now - A little different sound for DeBarge. Sounds more like a '60s ballad. Don't mind it at all. 9. Get It On - Good song .. but I like the T Rex version better 8. Sentimental Street – It was OK, I guess. 7. The Power of Love – Never cared for Huey's voice. This was not his best nor his worst. 6. Never Surrender – fair 5. Glory Days – Close to the top of my Boss List 4. You Give Good Love – WOW! This song was my favorite of all the songs that was #4 on the chart that week. 3. If You Love Somebody Set Them Free - Not bad... but I've never been a big Sting fan. 2. Everytime You Go Away – I kinda like this one, but think it was overplayed quite a bit. 1. Shout – I like the group's sound, and this song featured it well.

I still hear that song quite often whenever I listen to one of the adult contemporary/soft rock stations. Tears for Fears is one of my favorite groups from the mid-80's. I agree, they had a really good sound.
