Let's go back 25 years today. These were the top 10 songs on Billboard's Hot 100 singles chart on August 5, 1978.
10. Still the Same - Bob Seger and the Silver Bullet Band 9. Love Will Find a Way - Pablo Cruise 8. Hot Blooded - Foreigner 7. Use Ta Be My Girl - O'Jays 6. Baker Street - Gerry Rafferty 5. Shadow Dancing - Andy Gibb 4. Last Dance - Donna Summer 3. Grease - Frankie Valli 2. Three Times a Lady - Commodores 1. Miss You - Rolling Stones
Any thoughts or memories of these songs?

I always say that music was at like a peak in 75-76, but 78 still had some really great music.
I know all 10 songs, and there is nothing I actually HATE, although I would say Three Times a Lady is the weakest (by a group I DO like).
Hot Blooded and Miss You are classic rock staples and still good tunes, although they have been played a lot.
Still the Same, Shadow Dancing and Last Dance are all good tunes, but not my very faves from those artists.
Love Grease, of course.
This chart contains my number one songs from Rafferty, Pablo Cruise and O'Jays. Love those tunes, they just SPEAK 1978.

A pretty good chart overall; my favorites are "Still The Same," "Baker Street"(LOVE that sax!) and "Shadow Dancing"(RIP Andy). Anybody remember the Saturday Night Live parody commercial for Buckwheat Sings, featuring "Fee Tines A Mady"?

Already commented on quite a few of these, so briefly...
10. Still the Same - Bob Seger and the Silver Bullet Band One of his best Top 40 hits
9. Love Will Find a Way - Pablo Cruise Eh...it's allright.
8. Hot Blooded - Foreigner Good rocker amidst a lot of disco
7. Use Ta Be My Girl - O'Jays Not bad, not bad at all...
6. Baker Street - Gerry Rafferty One of the best sax solos ever. Good song.
5. Shadow Dancing - Andy Gibb My mother, of all people, played this to death back then. I like it a lot though.
4. Last Dance - Donna Summer Donna had a knack for recording songs that started off slow and built to a crescendoed climax. This one is very very dated and I can't handle it anymore. Loved it back then.
3. Grease - Frankie Valli Heck yes. This is one of my favorites from that year.
2. Three Times a Lady - Commodores Another of my Mom's favorites. Only song I have EVER heard her sing along to.
1. Miss You - Rolling Stones Disco Stones. Hmmmm...not bad actually. Especially if compared to the intolerable "Emotional Rescue".

I'm with you about music being at its peak back in the mid 70's, but 1978 was a good year as well. Although I like 'Three Times a Lady', I would have to say that it's my least favorite of these songs also. That's how strong this chart is - all are great!

Anybody remember the Saturday Night Live parody commercial for Buckwheat Sings, featuring "Fee Tines A Mady"? 'Still the Same' is my favorite of all Bob's songs - I love the great piano work on it. And I agree, the saxophone work on 'Baker Street' is wonderful, among the best I've heard.

You make a good point about Donna - come to think of it, she did that on 'On the Radio', 'MacArthur Park', and 'No More Tears' as well!

I was a little disappointed when they included a live version instead of the single version on Foreigner Records. I'm with you about 'Last Dance' - Donna really did a wonderful job with it. I still enjoy listening to those old disco records from time to time also!

You're absolutely correct about 'Use Ta Be My Girl' being forgotten. I hear 'Backstabbers' and 'Love Train' often, but rarely hear this one. That 'Grease' soundtrack is wonderful, and I've always especially loved the title cut.

Man. I fell asleep last night at 8 and slept clear through until 7 this morning. Too much sleep! At this time I would be visiting my Uncle Rick. He was stationed in Texas! My cousin Jeremy would have been an infant. Would be halfway through the trip to California that turned into the trip to HE*L! I swear they based National Lampoons Vacation on that trip! (except we didn't kill any animals or have anyone die). Heard these songs on the radio a lot, as we were frequently changing stations. 10) One of the few by him that I like. 9) Eh. It's ok. 8) Kind of played out. 7) Love this one! This is the one I could always annoy my best friend with. 6) This is a great one too! 5) Eh. Not a huge fan of Andy's. 4) Love Donna Summer. This is a good song - better than the movie it (and she) was in ( 3) Eh. I really didn't care for this movie. I think I'm the only one on the planet (aside from my husband). 2) I prefer "Fee Times A Mady" by Buhweet! 1) Great song! My parents are huge Stones fans, and I used to love to amuse them (I was such a ham!). Used to love to do the line "What's the matter man? We're gonna come around at 12 with some Puerto Rican girls who's just dyyyyyyyyyyin' to meet you. We gonna bring a case of wine. We're gonna laugh and fool around just like we UUUUSSSEEDD to!"

Hey Dawn! Not a bad chart. I like 9 of the 10 songs. The one exception is Last Dance. I've always felt that Donna Summer epitomized all that was wrong with Disco.
My fave of the ten is Baker Street. As we have often said, its the sax!
Love Will Find A Way. - I like this one quite a bit.
Despite the fact that I've heard some Broadway purists say that the addition of this song signified all that was wrong with the movie version of a great Broadway musical, I really like it.
Use Ta Be My Girl - Like the Ojays. This is one of their best.
Still The Same, Shadow Dancing, Three Times A Lady, Hot Blooded, and Miss You -- I like them all, but they are not the best by any of their respective artists.
