Like the preceding two years, 1982 has quite a few “lost” hits that have seldom been heard since the time they were current. Anyone remember these 5 songs from that year? 1. Nice Girls – Eye to Eye (Billboard #37) I remember hearing this song for the first time when I was on vacation in Nags Head, North Carolina that summer. It first made the top 40 of the Billboard chart on July 17, 1982, and was the only hit for this duo. I’ve always liked this one - a fun, upbeat pop song with a touch of new wave. Here is the link to a clip: www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B000068TN4/qid=1060305160/sr=8-5/ref=sr_8_5/104-0246989-1917503?v=glance&s=music&n=507846. 2. Voyeur – Kim Carnes (Billboard #29) Kim was never able to duplicate the success of her number 1 hit ‘Bette Davis Eyes’, but she remained a presence on the charts until 1985. ‘Voyeur’ is one of my favorites from her – a great rock-oriented track with her signature raspy vocals. It made its first appearance in the top 40 on September 11, 1982, and can be found on her Best of CD from EMI: www.mymusic.com/product.asp?curr=0&myptr=addany&muzenbr=334510. 3. My Girl – Donnie Iris (Billboard #25) This third and final top 40 hit for Donnie was a marked departure in style from his previous two singles. It has a 50’s-inspired, retro sound, in contrast with the more rock-oriented ‘Ah! Leah!’ and ‘Love Is Like a Rock’. Its first appearance in the top 40 was on May 1, 1982. It’s available on his 20th Century Masters: The Millennium Collection CD: www.mymusic.com/product.asp?curr=0&myptr=addany&muzenbr=432049. 4. Nobody Said It Was Easy (Lookin’ for the Lights) – Le Roux (Billboard #18) I’ve always liked this one – a great soft rock song that reminds me of some of Little River Band’s work from that era. Appearing in the top 40 for the first time on March 20, 1982, this was the only hit for Le Roux, a Southern rock band also known as Louisiana’s Le Roux. It was included on Barry Scott Presents The Lost 45s of the 70’s and 80’s, Volume 2: www.mymusic.com/product.asp?curr=0&myptr=addany&muzenbr=321983. 5. Be My Lady – Jefferson Starship (Billboard #28) Their early-to-mid 80’s material is often overlooked on the radio, but Jefferson Starship released some really good songs during that time. This is one of my favorite songs of theirs. It first appeared in the top 40 on November 13, 1982, and was one of two top 40 singles from their Winds of Change album. Here is a link to a clip: www.mymusic.com/product.asp?curr=0&myptr=addany&muzenbr=346174.

Hey, I finally know one!
Be My Lady I remember from back then. It was one of those songs that over the years I forgot how it actually went, until I picked up the 2 disc collection of theirs.
Good tune, not as good as say, Stranger or Find Your Way Back, but better than the Starship stuff.
I am sure I would know My Girl if I took the time to listen.

Again, I have all of these, and I like them all.
Nice Girls is so overlooked! I had a HARD time finding this song last summer. AudioGalaxy (before they shut down) was the ONLY place I could find this and "Goin' Down" by Greg Guidry. Didn't know Eye II Eye had a CD out finally! Love the line about the silver glitter around the eyes, so 80's!
Voyeur was one of several great Kim Carnes songs that got lost in the shadow of Bette Davis Eyes. I love this and "Invisible Hands".

1. Nice Girls - Eye to Eye Hey, I was on vacation in Nags Head that summer too! I love the Outer Banks area. Anyway, I was living in Richmond, VA at the time and this got quite a bit of airplay. Much more than a #37 song normally would. Didn't like it at first but it grew on me.
2. Voyeur - Kim Carnes No sound card on this PC. Therefore I remember the title and artist combo and remember it being on American Top 40 but drawing a blank on the tune.
3. My Girl - Donnie Iris Same as above, didn't get played much here and I can't remember how it goes.
4. Nobody Said It Was Easy - LeRoux This one I do remember. Could take or leave it at the time.
5. Be My Lady - Jefferson Starship Good vocals by Mickey Thomas. Actually this one has gotten occasional (bah..never could spell that word) airplay up until 10 years ago or so. I thought it was a nice song.

Another great lineup! Own all but Eye to Eye (and all of those 4 on CD as well!). "Voyeur" is one of my fave KC tunes--much like the electropop of Berlin. GREAT song by LeRoux! Donnie was simply one of the best from that era, I LOVE his non-top 40 tune "Sweet Merilee".

It had been quite a while since I'd heard 'Be My Lady' myself, until I got their Ten Years and Change greatest hits on cassette a few years ago. Those early 80's hits of theirs are so overlooked, although I'm starting to hear 'Find Your Way Back' on the classic rock station occasionally.

That surprised me about Eye to Eye's CD also. I was thinking 'Nice Girls' might be available on an 80's compilation, but it's good to see that they've released their album on CD. I agree, 'Goin' Down' is another tough one to find. I came across a site that offered a limited edition CD of his when I did a post about that song on YL last winter, but that's the only place I've ever seen it.

I even still have a t-shirt I got there, that says "Summer of '82, Nags Head, N.C." on it. I kinda feel old when I wear it now, though - hard to believe that's been 21 years ago! ;D That's true about 'Nice Girls' getting quite a bit of airplay for a #37 song. It could be that they were trying to promote it more heavily, but it just didn't catch on as well as hoped for some reason.

You're right, the harmonies on 'My Girl' do sound very Beatlesque! Great song! You're very welcome, Ken. I don't think I've heard 'Nobody Said It Was Easy' on the radio since the summer of 1982, but I have it on a K-tel LP called After Hours, and also that Lost 45's CD. It brings back a lot of memories for me too!

Such a great song - wish it got more airplay these days. Le Roux's song is also excellent - I love that early 80's soft rock. I'm not sure why these replies are showing up in italics - I've double-checked, and there aren't any HTML italic tags there.

I don't remember the Eye to Eye song (I might if I heard it), but I remember (and like) all the rest of 'em. I saw Starship in concert in '85 (they were just going by the name Starship at that time) and "Be My Lady" was one of the songs they did.

I remember they performed here at a 4th of July celebration about 2 or 3 years ago. I didn't go, and now I wish I would have. 'Be My Lady' has always been a favorite of mine.
