Let’s take a look at 5 songs from 1984 that have been pretty much forgotten by radio stations since their chart run back in the day. Anyone remember these? 1. Love Will Show Us How – Christine McVie (Billboard #30) This was the second single released from Christine’s excellent self-titled album, and first entered the Billboard top 40 on May 12. Although not as successful as her previous hit, ‘Got a Hold on Me’, it has a great sound, reminiscent of her work with Fleetwood Mac. Here is the link to a clip: www.mymusic.com/product.asp?curr=0&myptr=addany&muzenbr=124682. 2. So Bad – Paul McCartney (Billboard #23) Along with ‘Press’, this is probably Paul’s least-remembered single from the 80’s today. I remember it got quite a bit of airplay when it was current, but then seemed to disappear from the airwaves. It first appeared in the top 40 on January 7, and was from his album Pipes of Peace: www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B000007NZI/qid=1061257606/sr=8-1/ref=sr_8_1/002-5807596-4551268?v=glance&s=music&n=507846. 3. Modern Day Delilah – Van Stephenson (Billboard #22) This was the only top 40 hit for Van Stephenson, and like ‘Love Will Show Us How’, it made the top 40 for the first time on the May 12, 1984 chart. Until fairly recently, it was hard to find on CD, but it’s available on Barry Scott Presents the Lost 45s of the 70s and 80s Vol. 2: www.mymusic.com/product.asp?curr=0&myptr=addany&muzenbr=272953. 4. Nightbird – Stevie Nicks (Billboard #33) This has always been one of my favorites from Stevie. Appearing in the top 40 for the first time on January 21, this song was the third single release from her album The Wild Heart, and features Sandy Stewart as a backing vocalist. A clip of it can be heard here: www.mymusic.com/product.asp?curr=0&myptr=addany&muzenbr=129779. 5. Runner – Manfred Mann’s Earth Band (Billboard #22) ‘Runner’ was the seventh and final top 40 single for the group, and first entered the top 40 on February 18. Manfred Mann’s Earth Band had not had a top 40 single since 1977, so this was a comeback of sorts for them. Although an excellent song, it has never really found a niche on classic rock stations. It’s from their album somewhere Somewhere in Afrika: www.mymusic.com/product.asp?curr=0&myptr=addany&muzenbr=122739.

HOLY COW! I know 4 out of 5!
And the fifth, I actually have on the greatest hits, so I can check it out!
1. For years I forgot how this went, but I definitely remember it! I think my dad may have a clip of her performing this on TV.
2. I remember this, not from the radio, but from it's performance in Give My Regards to Broad Street. Not a bad song, but nowhere near his peak.
3. Definitely remember this, better than the others. Can't believe it didn't go higher on the charts.
4. Never knew this on the radio. First time I heard it was on a rerun of SNL where she performed it, along with Stand Back. Thought it was a cool tune, and then of course I got the box set. Shoulda went higher.
5. I'll have to listen to this.

1.This does sound familiar. I believe I heard this a few times, very catchy , I really liked Got a Hold On Me as well.
2.Oh yes I remember it well , this did get alot of airplay at the time. One of the many songs I taped off the radio. Too Bad it's not included on any of his compilations.
3.Excellent track!!Yes I do remember this
4.No ,it doesn't ring a bell , pleasent tune though
5.I loved this!! an excellent tune from Manfred Mann. Another song I originally recorded off the radio and awhile back included it on a mix CD. One of '84's best.

1. Was not impressed much. Don't miss it. 2. Not one of Paul's better ones. Got very little play in Syracuse. Don't miss it. Pipes of Peace shoulda been the US follow up to Say 3x. 3. RIP Van. At least this is good, also have the 45. 4. Sorry, never liked it. 5. Don't own it, but at least it's better than 3 of the others here. scusami...

I know and like 1,2,3,5.. But I'm not familiar with 4..
Paul's song was OK for an 80's Paul tune.. No where near "My Love", though, as far as ballads go..
"Modern Day Delilah".. YES! Love this one!
"Love Will Show Us How" nice uptempo tune!
"Runner" I saw the video to once when it was current. Didn't hear it again until I downloaded it last year.

I'll have to listen to this. I've always thought both 'Modern Day Delilah' and 'Nightbird' should have charted higher than they did also. Both are great. I think you'd like 'Runner' - it's a really good, rocking track, and my favorite of all their songs. I wish the classic rock stations would start playing it.

I agree, it would have been great if 'So Bad' had been included on Wingspan or All the Best!. I've always liked that song a lot. I think I still have an old cassette with 'Runner' on it, that I taped off WWWV back in '84! It's one of my faves of that year also!

I've always thought 'Modern Day Delilah' was excellent. 'Pipes of Peace' is a good tune from Paul, I agree. I really enjoy some of the songs from that album.

It's pretty good - I like the concept.

Whoa. I know all of them.
1) This one wasn't too bad. It seemed around this time pretty much everyone from FM was doing something solo. I loved Lindsay Buckingham's stuff the most, I think.
2) Kind of Eh for Paul. I had totally forgotten about it until I saw the video on VH1 Classic last week. Ringo on drums!
3) I don't much care for this one. It's played alot on Ultimate 80's.
4) Not bad, but I liked If Anyone Falls off the same album better.
5) I barely remember it - not much of an opinion either way.

I love Lindsey Buckingham's 'Go Insane' from that year! I really should look into getting some of his solo albums. I've been trying to get all the Paul videos off VH-1 Classic, but I must have missed that one! I have the 45, but it's been a while since I've listened to it.

Hi Dawn - Couple of songs I remember.
I have the Christine McVie on vinyl. Love Will Show us How is one of the better songs on the album.
Modern Day Delilah - Remember hearing this on the radio. Can't say that I really liked it though.

Can't say that I really liked it though. I can't figure out why 'Love Will Show Us How' didn't chart higher than it did. It's just as well done as 'Got a Hold on Me', with a similar sound. Her solo songs were really quite good.
