Music was still good at this point, but some of the older bands were starting to teeter. The songs by McCartney, REO, Chicago, Fleetwood Mac and Steve Miller are all good, but not as good as Bluebird, Keep Pushin', Dialogue, Gold Dust Woman and Living in the USA! But good nonetheless. 10. Not bad. I have the single. 9. Good tune. I didn't list them above because this and Southern Cross are still among their best! 8. Really good tune. Saw the video the other day. 7. Actually, this is a fave of mine from there. But I don't pretend it's a classic. REO needs a two disc compilation. 6. Chick rock. As far as their songs go, this wasn't HORRIBLE. 5. As far as their 80's stuff, this is the best. But you gotta have the full length version with Get Away. 4. Again, really good tune, just not a classic. Video saw endless play. 3. Didn't we all love singing this as kids. Also needs an updated collection. 2. Classic Mellencamp. Back when he was a biker. LOL 1. Let's pump some iron! Good tune, which I own, but never listen to.

10. Take It Away – Paul McCartney Not one of my favorites of his solo work. Just a little too jazzy for my tastes.
9. Wasted on the Way – Crosby, Stills & Nash Nice "comeback" tune for this legendary trio.
8. Vacation – Go-Go’s The quisessential summer song. Video and album cover based upon the ski maiden show at the old Wiki Wachee (sp?) park in Orlando.
7. Keep the Fire Burnin’ – REO Speedwagon Forgotten top ten by the boys from Illinois. Why doesn't this get any airplay?
6. Even the Nights Are Better – Air Supply Say what you will, personally I liked this song. Russell Hitchcocks falsetto is at it's best here.
5. Hard to Say I’m Sorry – Chicago Like I said yesterday, give me Chicago Transit Authority and their horn section anyday.
4. Hold Me – Fleetwood Mac Pretty good song. Will always remind me of several beach trips from that year.
3. Abracadabra – Steve Miller Band Some really cool guitar work in this chart topper. The Space Cowboy's last great work.
2. Hurts So Good – John Cougar Teenage singalong anthem. Should have made the top but Survivor was too strong.
1. Eye of the Tiger - Survivor This song ROCKS. Overplayed then...now I once again love it.

There are some very good tunes included today. 10. Woo Hoo! as I mentioned in my Album of The Day post - I have the 12" single of this. Very cool seeing both Steve Gadd and Ringo playing together in the video. This recieved plenty of radio airplay in my area at the time and that was OK with me 9.Excellent track! - I have two copies on 45 and I really like The Daylight Again album I have it on disc. David Crosby was I remember in very bad shape at this time. 8.Oh Yeah! classic pop! have this on a mix tape , one of their best! 7.This is a fine tune, it get's no airplay whatsoever now. Too Bad 6.I haven't heard this in a very long time. Yeah it was ok to hear once in a while. 5.IMO this along with Love Me Tomorrow are their best from the 80's 4.Great Fleetwood Mac! 3.Loved this at the time! - give me Steve's version over Sugar Ray's anyday 2.Classic rock and roll from John! 1.A great (if somewhat overplayed song at the time) that I still really like to listen to.

10. Take It Away – Paul McCartney (Best song on this chart!) 9. Wasted on the Way – Crosby, Stills & Nash (Love this!) 8. Vacation – Go-Go’s (Good, fun tune). 7. Keep the Fire Burnin’ – REO Speedwagon (Never big on them). 6. Even the Nights Are Better – Air Supply (Not bad considering it's Air Supply). 5. Hard to Say I’m Sorry – Chicago (Better than their later 80's ballads! I actually don't mind this tune, but it's not classic Chicago). 4. Hold Me – Fleetwood Mac (Christine wrote this about her relationship with Dennis Wilson). 3. Abracadabra – Steve Miller Band (Always liked this one). 2. Hurts So Good – John Cougar (OK for Melancamp, but I was never big on him). 1. Eye of the Tiger - Survivor (Never a big fan of this tune, it was just one of those songs that my whole school liked, but didn't do much for me).

Take It Away--Listenable, though not one of my favorites by him. Wasted On The Way--Great tune--LOVE the harmonies on this one! Vacation--Fun and catchy. Keep The Fire Burnin'--Not bad, kind of forgotten. Even The Nights Are Better--Well...let me know when it's (Making Love)Out Of Nothing At All. Hard To Say I'm Sorry--I was SO happy when this was a hit because they were FINALLY "in" again--but looking back now, I'd rather have "Dialogue". ;D Hold Me--Cool song, holds the distinction of being the first music video I remember seeing. Abracadabra--Okay, not great. Hurts So Good--Probably my favorite Mellencamp song. Eye Of The Tiger--All over the radio when it was out; also like Weird Al's parody, "The Rye Or The Kaiser"(Hi Railyn! )

. Eye Of The Tiger--All over the radio when it was out; also like Weird Al's parody, "The Rye Or The Kaiser"(Hi Railyn! ) Right back 'atcha Smitty! Let's see, I would have been almost 9. I think I would have finished 2nd grade with my evil teacher who told my mom she hated kids. My 3rd grade teacher was a total hippie, though. She was nice, but a bit odd. 10) This is my favorite song he does. I'm ready - throw the tomatoes...... 9) Eh. I was never really into that folky stuff. 8) LOVE this one - have the album. 7) Another good one. My uncle had the 8-track. 6) I like Air Supply, but this one is low on my list. 5) Eh. It's a bit sappy. 4) Like this one. 3) My cousin had the 45 and played it alot. I like it. 2) Good early song by John. 1) Eh. Got way tired of it - I mentioned once before that we played this in band, and my part was the "dududududududududududud" in the background until we got to the chorus. I got tired of it. I do agree w/Smitty, though, that Al's "Theme From Rocky XIII" is great! He dusted it off and put it into his medly at his last show.

Hey Dawn! Got a top 250 here and a few other good ones.
10. Take It Away – Not to keen on this one. - Which is unusual. I like most of his work.
9. Wasted on the Way – It was good to hear from these guys, although I like their earlier stuff better.
8. Vacation – Eh
7. Keep the Fire Burnin’ – I like REO in general. This one is not bad. Haven't heard it in a long time. Time to dig out the 45.
6. Even the Nights Are Better – I've said it before and I'll say it again. I like Air Supply. Some songs are better than others, but I don't think I've ever heard a bad one. This is a good one.
5. Hard to Say I’m Sorry – Woo Hoo! Top 250. I like '80s Chicago as much as I like late '60s and '70s Chicago. This song (Peter Cetera singing lead??) is my all time Chicago fave.
4. Hold Me – Very fine song
3. Abracadabra – Not bad... but I'm lukewarm on the Steve Miller Band. All their songs sound alike.
2. Hurts So Good – Probably the high point of John's "Cougar" period.
1. Eye of the Tiger - Overplayed in the day. Not a bad song. Pretty good Weird Al parody of this one.

You're right about there needing to be two discs for the REO greatest hits. The current one is good, but leaves out so many great songs. LOL about 'Eye of the Tiger'! I have the Survivor greatest hits on cassette, but it's been quite a while since I've listened to it.

You make a good point about 'Keep the Fire Burnin' - I never hear it on either classic rock or adult contemporary stations. That's a shame, too, because it's a really good song. You'll get no argument from me about 'Even the Nights are Better'. I do enjoy many of Air Supply's songs, and this is one of my favorites. I like 'Hard to Say I'm Sorry', but like you, I prefer their late 60's/70's material.

I've never seen the video to 'Take It Away', but from what you've described, it sounds great! I'll have to try and catch it on VH-1 Classic. 'Vacation' is definitely one of the Go-Go's best. What a classic summer song! 'Abracadabra' is one of my favorites from Steve. I love the cool sound effects in it!

I agree about 'Hard to Say I'm Sorry' - it's a good song, but not quite in the same league as their earlier ones. Actually, the Chicago 16 album is pretty good for the most part, and one of the tracks, 'What You're Missing', is excellent - very reminiscent of their older material. I didn't know that about 'Hold Me' being about Christine and Dennis - that's interesting!

Both this one and 'Southern Cross' were great comeback songs for them. I remember Chicago performed here in concert not long after 'Hard to Say I'm Sorry' peaked, and many people from my high school went to see them (I didn't, although I wish now I had). That song definitely got things moving for them again.

I will never understand why people who don't enjoy working with children often choose teaching as a career. No tomatoes here! I've always enjoyed this one from Paul also. I don't think I've ever heard Al's 'Theme from Rocky XIII' - I'll have to check it out sometime! There for a while, it did seem as though there might really be a Rocky XIII movie!

I've always enjoyed REO's music also, and can't understand why it doesn't get more airplay these days. It used to be I heard the more pop-oriented hits like 'Keep on Loving You', but now I mainly hear the older songs like 'Ridin' the Storm Out' on the classic rock stations primarily. 'Even the Nights are Better' is one of their best, I agree. I like 'Every Woman in the World' and 'Lost in Love' a lot as well. You're right, that's Peter singing lead on 'Hard to Say I'm Sorry'. I've always thought he did a really nice job with the vocals.
