10. When - Kalin Twins 9. Born Too Late - Poni-Tails 8. Fever - Peggy Lee 7. Patricia - Perez Prado 6. Poor Little Fool - Ricky Nelson 5. My True Love - Jack Scott 4. Just A Dream - Jimmy Clanton 3. Bird Dog - Everly Brothers 2. Nel Blu Dipinto Di Blu (Volare) - Domenico Modugno 1. Little Star - The Elegants
Any thoughts or memories of these songs?

Hey Dawn! You did it! We're back in the '50s!! Let me get my response in quickly before you get inundated by all the other MCers who consider the '50s their favorite decade. ;D
10. When - Love it ! All time top 250! Fine 2-part harmony and a hint of '20s or '30s style.
9. Born Too Late - An early teenage girls lament. Good harmony. Fine sax. Pleasant to listen to.
8. Fever - Most people love this. I like it, but prefer the Little Willie John original from about two years earlier.
7. Patricia - Super Latin instrumental. Maybe my favorite of that genre. This song was HUGE.
6. Poor Little Fool - Very fine song by a guy who was recognized as a talent over twenty years too late.
5. My True Love - Good country song (although they repeat the title words about 500 times.) Jack could really hit those low notes.
4. Just A Dream - Probably forgotten by most. Good song. I remember growing up in Boston, and hearing the DJs plugging a local recording company - Ace Records. "Ace is the Place", and mentioning that it was where Jimmy Clanton cut his first record.
3. Bird Dog - Good early Everly Brothers. Really a kid's song: "Johnny Kissed the Teacher, He tiptoed up to reach her". What is he, in third grade???
2. Nel Blu Dipinto Di Blu (Volare) - Sorry, Bobby Rydell and others. THIS is the definitive version!
1. Little Star - I remember them singing this on Bandstand, wearing very elegant dress clothes. Hence their name. A simple but effective doo wop song.

Don't know too many here. 10. Don't know it. (But I know they were one of the few sets of twins in rock history) 9. Good tune! My dad tells me the story of him at a dance, dancing with a girl older than him to this song. LOL! 8. I guess I know her version, but am more familiar with subsequent versions. 7. Don't know it. 6. Great one from Ricky. I need a compilation! 5. Don't know it. 4. Don't know it. (But I DO know Go Jimmy, Go by him! Cool tune) 3. A classic. My fave by the Everlys. 2. Don't know it. 1. Great early rock tune.

He thought they were great. 2.More familiar with Dean's version -I like it 1.One of my favorite doo - wop songs - excellent track!

Good percentage- I really like five of these- "Born Too Late", "Volare", "Fever", "My True Love", and "Little Star". I've got "Born too Late" and "Little Star" on the "Malt Shop Memories" compilation.
"Fever"- great minimalism, just some very tasty bass and percussion.
"When" always had a music hall kind of sound to me. In fact, that percussion, it always sounded like they were tap-dancing while they were singing this.

It's a shame that his talent went unrecognized for so long, I agree. LOL about 'Bird Dog'! This is one of those songs that, like 'Band of Gold', I've heard many times, but never really gave much thought to the lyrics. That is pretty funny, though! I like the vocals on 'Little Star' a lot. Wonderful doo-wop song!

Great early rock tune. 'Born Too Late' is really nice, but I don't hear it very often on the oldies stations for some reason. I think the first version of 'Fever' I heard was by the McCoys. Peggy's version is pretty good, too. I really need to get a compilation of Ricky's also. He had so many great songs.

I'd like to find a copy of that K-tel 60 Flashback Hits one of these days. It sounds like a really good album! I can't say I've heard the Jack Scott song either, although like you I'm pretty sure I've heard 'What in the World's Come Over You'. My parents had the Everlys' greatest hits album when I was growing up, and I remember listening to it many times. I really enjoy their music, especially 'Cathy's Clown', 'Til I Kissed You', and 'Walk Right Back'.

I don't own very much pre-1964 music, but I'd like to start getting some compilations before long.

Not a huge fan of the 50's. I know some of these.
10) Not familiar. 9) Eh. I'm not big on the "crying girl" songs. 8) Not too bad. I like the song itself. 7) Not familiar, but it's probably an instrumental. 6) Eh. 5) Not familiar. 4) It rings a bell, but I can't place it. 3) Mom's a huge Everly Brothers fan. 2) ? 1) EH.

Yes, 'Patricia' is an instrumental - it has kind of a "ballroom dance" feel to it.
